The intensive flow of personal data associated with the trend of computerizing aspects of people’s diversity in their daily lives is associated with issues concerning not only people protection and their trust in new technologies, but also bias in the analysis of data and problems in their management and reuse. Faced with a complex problem, the strategies adopted, including technologies and services, often focus on individual aspects, which are difficult to integrate into a broader framework, which can be of effective support for researchers and developers. Therefore, we argue for the development of an end-to-end research infrastructure (RI) that enables trustworthy diversity-aware data within a citizen science community. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

In this study, a novel investigation in developing intelligent adaptive Bayesian networks (IABN) is carried out to solve the fractional order Parkinson's disease model (FOPDM) represented with a system of three fractional differential equations reflecting the brain's electrical activity rhythms at different cerebral cortex positions. The IABN are developed by using the competency of the multi-layer architecture of neural networks with backpropagation through Bayesian regularization optimization scheme. The reference dataset for IABN is created through Grunwald-Letnikov fractional derivative-based numerical solver for FOPDM in case of varying sensor locations on the cerebral cortex, as well as, considering different fractional orders in FOPDM. The proposed IABN is applied to the created datasets arbitrarily partitioned into training and testing sets by optimizing the fitness criterion based on mean square error (MSE) metric. The detailed analyses of the proposed IABN through extensive simulations and comparison with the reference numerical solutions of FOPDM in terms of MSE training/testing plots, absolute error, training/testing regression plots, and error histogram results, endorse the worth of the proposed intelligent scheme for different fractional orders. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Achieving concurrency in cloud-orchestrated Internet of Things for resource sharing through multiple concurrent access

Cloud-orchestrated Internet of Things (IoT) facilitates proper utilization of network resources and placating user demands in smart communications. Multiple concurrent access (MCA) techniques designed for cloud-assisted communication helps to achieve better resource sharing features with fault tolerance ability. A multi-objective resource allocation and sharing (RAS) for balancing MCA in cloud-orchestrated IoT is presented in this article. The RAS constraints are modeled through linear programming (LP) as an optimization approach. The constraints are resolved using genetic representations (GR) for reducing the unserviced requests and failed resource allocations. Conventional genetic stages are inherited by the LP model to solve resource allocation and access issues reducing latency. The combined LP and GR jointly resolve resource allocation and MCA stagnation in cloud network. A fair outcome of LP-GR is estimation using the metrics response latency, resource utilization, request handled, and average latency. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Nowadays, there is a noticeable increase in the development and use of the Internet of Things(loT). With this rapid increase, IoT devices may face several challenges when used in the real world through applications. Using 5G with large numbers of Internet-connected devices of IoT puts many devices at risk and requires risk management. The growing of IoT leads to the growth of cyber-attackers and allow them to expose the vulnerabilities. This paper will present the risk management of 5G-enabled IoT technology and the use of machine learning to mitigate the risk and reduce the attacks on these technologies, and finding solutions through previous researches. This research aims to identify and eliminate potential risks in the IoT based 5G by machine learning. The paper also aims to present a solution to the security problems and risks faced when integrating the fifth-generation network and the Internet of Things. With 5G-enabled IoT, the risk management helps organizations use emerging technologies effectively while mitigating potential underlying risks such as security breaches, and data loss. Authentication,encryption, access control, and communication security are essential for making security. Machine learning algorithms have the potential to remove many obstacles to implementing the security of the Internet of Things, paving the door for the use of sophisticated technology like 5G. With new 5G networks, it is expected that the current IoT will be significantly expanded, which will improve cellular operations and the security of IoT, as well as push the future of the Internet to its edges. Analyzing the behaviors of pedestrians and cyclists in interactions with autonomous systems using controlled experiments: A literature review

Urban transportation is set to undergo a profound transformation with the advent of autonomous systems such as autonomous vehicles, automated buses, and sidewalk delivery robots. To promote safe, sustainable, and inclusive urban mobility, understanding and predicting the behaviors of pedestrians and cyclists, including their intentions, decisions, and movements, when they interact with autonomous systems becomes crucial. Gaining a thorough understanding of these complex interactions can not only improve the safety, efficiency, and acceptance of autonomous systems but also enhance the design and implementation of these technologies. Through a comprehensive review of the literature spanning the years 2014 to 2023, we identify 99 articles that empirically investigate the interactions of humans and autonomous systems. Based on our overview of progress and challenges within this field, we further identify five research gaps that future research should address to enhance human-autonomous system interactions, including: (1) scaling up experimental scenarios to multi-user and multi-modal setups to better represent real-world challenges, (2) emphasizing safety-critical scenarios that are difficult to achieve in real-world environments by applying virtual reality, (3) incorporating diverse behavioral data from the human perspective to deepen the understanding of vulnerable road user behavior and decisions, (4) embracing continuous and real-time interaction to better predict dynamic future environments, and (5) enhancing the generalization ability to ensure realism and broad applicability. This review article offers valuable insights for the growing human-autonomous system research community, specifically those interested in leveraging controlled experiments to enhance the understanding and prediction of pedestrians' and cyclists' behaviors in future urban environments.

Understanding the regions where proteins bind to peptides is vital for studying diseases like cancer, as it sheds light on various cellular processes and aids in drug discovery. Although researchers can experimentally investigate protein-peptide interactions at the region level by analyzing the structures of their complexes, only a limited number of these structures are known. Additionally, experiments to determine these interactions can be both costly and time-consuming. Computational methods provide an alternative and complementary approach to experimental techniques. As a result, using computational methods to predict peptide-binding regions can significantly enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of experimental research. To leverage these advantages, this study introduces a new method named Structure-based Prediction of Residue-level Interaction of Peptides (SPRINT-Pep), designed to pinpoint the binding regions between proteins and peptides. This approach leverages two distinct predictive models: a classification-based model combining DeepResNet with a Support Vector Machine (SVM) and a segmentation-based model called DeepU-Net. Our predictions outperform other state-of-the-art methods in terms of F-measures (by at least 23%), precision (by at least 3.7%), and the balance between sensitivity and specificity (by about 7.7%). These findings demonstrate the proficiency of the proposed method.

With the explosive growth of data, hundreds of thousands of servers may be contained in a single data center. Hence, node failures are unavoidable and generally negatively effects the performance of the whole data center. Additionally, data centers with a large number of nodes will cause plenty of energy consumption. Many existing task scheduling techniques can effectively reduce the power consumption in data centers by considering heat recirculation. However, the traditional techniques do not take the situation of node failures into account. This paper proposes an airflow-based failure model for data centers by leveraging heat recirculation. In this model, the spatial distribution and time distribution of failures are considered. Furthermore, a genetic algorithm (GA) and a simulated annealing algorithm (SA) are implemented to evaluate the proposed failure model. Because the positions of node failures have a significant impact on the heat recirculation and the energy consumption of data centers, failures with different positions are analyzed and evaluated. The experimental results demonstrate that the energy consumption of data centers can be significantly reduced by using the GA and SA algorithms for task scheduling based on the proposed failure model. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

To take the advantage of computing resource of edge server, the end-users must pay the service charge for task processing. However, the transmission delay plays an important role in communication-computation of edge computing. To address this, we aim to leverage reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) in mobile edge computing (MEC). In this letter, we propose an offloading policy to maximize the revenue of edge server while satisfying the end-user's goal of minimizing both the latency and cost based on the price by edge server. We provide an insight on required computing resources at the edge server for delay-sensitive task processing. © 2019 IEEE.

In this study, the Directivity of the Microstrip Patch MIMO Antenna is a Novel Eight element array configuration in comparison with its performance of a Single element patch antenna. Directivity improvement and Return loss measured for different frequencies and values are compared with a Single element patch antenna. Novel Eight element MIMO array antenna is designed and compared with a Single patch element antenna. In this work, there are two groups (Eight element patch & Single element patch) each consisting of 20 samples with pre-test power or G-power of 80%. The mean Return loss in the Novel eight element MIMO array antenna is -18.39 dB and in the Single element antenna is -15.21 dB. These results showed that the Novel eight element array exhibited a better Directivity improvement (4.483 dB) than the single element antenna (2.261 dB) with the two-tailed significance of (p © 2023 IEEE.

Refining Pseudo Labels With a Teacher-Student Paradigm for Accurate Brain Lesion Segmentation

In medical image segmentation, obtaining large volume of high quality labeled data is a persistent challenge, especially for intricate tasks like brain lesion segmentation, where annotations are time-consuming, costly, and require expert knowledge. This work introduces a novel learning framework where the abundance of labeled data is scarce, and the model learns from both limited number of annotated data as well as from unlabeled data. The framework initially leverages superpixel segmentation to group pixels with similar properties into compact, perceptually coherent regions while preserving critical structural details, and produce coarse segmentation mask on unlabeled data. In the next phase, a teacher-student model is employed, where the teacher module generates pseudo-labels for unlabeled data, and the student model learns from both of these pseudo-labels and minimal amount of annotated data. In addition, a feature refinement module is introduced to further strengthen the teacher-student framework, where the student module also learns from the mutual agreement between superpixel prediction and the pseudo label generated by the teacher module. The overall framework helps in efficiently using the unlabeled data with the help of handful amount of labeled data. Experimental results across multiple datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework in achieving precise, computationally efficient brain lesion segmentation. The integration of superpixel-based grouping and the student-teacher architecture not only improves segmentation accuracy but also offers a scalable solution for scenarios with limited annotated data. This method provides a promising pathway for advancing medical imaging applications, enabling accurate and efficient segmentation while addressing the challenges of data scarcity and annotation constraints. © 2013 IEEE.
