Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is a vital application of the Internet of Things (IoT) that plays a significant role in gathering a patient's healthcare information. This collected data helps special professionals like doctors or physicians analyze patients' health status to cure different diseases. However, collecting such information from an insecure channel can be threatening due to the potential security threats. Therefore, it is crucial to secure this sensitive information. This article proposes a secure and lightweight authentication protocol for WBAN. The devised protocol is scalable, secure, and lightweight compared to various relevant competing protocols. The informal security analysis shows that the designed protocol is lightweight, secure, and efficient in resisting various major attacks. The performance analysis demonstrates our protocol's supremacy over various competing protocols in terms of computation and communication costs, inducing efficiency of 20.3% and 12.3%, respectively. Moreover, the practical performance of the designed protocol from the network point of view is measured using the widely recognized NS3 simulation tool. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Image inpainting via Smooth Tucker decomposition and Low-rank Hankel constraint

Image inpainting, aiming at exactly recovering missing pixels from partially observed entries, is typically an ill-posed problem. As a powerful constraint, low-rank priors have been widely applied in image inpainting to transform such problems into well-posed ones. However, the low-rank assumption of original visual data is only in an approximate mode, which in turn results in suboptimal recovery of fine-grained details, particularly when the missing rate is extremely high. Moreover, a single prior cannot faithfully capture the complex texture structure of an image. In this paper, we propose a joint usage of Smooth Tucker decomposition and Low-rank Hankel constraint (STLH) for image inpainting, which enables simultaneous capturing of the global low-rankness and local piecewise smoothness. Specifically, based on the Hankelization operation, the original image is mapped to a high-order structure for capturing more spatial and spectral information. By employing Tucker decomposition for optimizing the Hankel tensor and simultaneously applying Discrete Total Variation (DTV) to the Tucker factors, sharper edges are generated and better isotropic properties are enhanced. Moreover, to approximate the essential rank of the Tucker decomposition and avoid facing the uncertainty problem of the upper-rank limit, a reverse strategy is adopted to approximate the true rank of the Tucker decomposition. Finally, the overall image inpainting model is optimized by the well-known alternate least squares (ALS) algorithm. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance both quantitatively and qualitatively. Particularly, in the extreme case with 99% pixels missed, the results from STLH are averagely ahead of others at least 0.9dB in terms of PSNR values. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

ARiViT: attention-based residual-integrated vision transformer for noisy brain medical image classification

Brain tumor detection in medical image processing presents a formidable challenge due to the complex behavior exhibited by these tumors. Their intricate nature arises from a variety of shapes and textures within brain tumor images, exacerbated by their diverse cellular origins. This complexity is further compounded by the presence of noisy images, which add an additional layer of difficulty. The overlapping image intensities in tumor and non-tumor areas pose a significant hurdle in extracting meaningful insights from raw data using predictive models. In response to these challenges, we introduce ARiViT, a novel framework based on residual learning. ARiViT merges vision transformers, convolutions, and adversarial learning to tackle the complexities of brain tumor detection. ARiViT’s core generator integrates RiT blocks, merging residual convolutions and transformers, with residual connections, channel compression, and strategic weight sharing for enhanced capabilities and computational efficiency. ARiViT demonstrates exceptional robustness in handling noisy images and adapts well to various modality setups. Our systematic approach involves dataset splitting into training, testing, and validation sets, maintaining distributions of 80:20 and subsequently 70:30, ensuring rigorous evaluation. Additionally, our data preprocessing strategies are tailored to handle noisy and low-quality images, as well as those with unusual tumor shapes. The GAN architecture embedded in ARiViT effectively manages the complexities inherent in such image variations, ensuring reliable tumor detection even in challenging scenarios. Through exhaustive comparative evaluations, ARiViT proves its superiority over existing CNN and transformer techniques, as evidenced by both qualitative and quantitative analyses. Our efforts culminate in remarkable achievements, including an F1-score of 98.09%, establishing a pioneering solution in the demanding field of brain tumor detection. © The Author(s), under

This manuscript presents a hybrid method for optimal energy management in smart home appliances. The proposed approach combines the Ebola Optimization Search Algorithm (EOSA) with the performance of spiking neural networks (SNN). The key objective of the proposed strategy is cost reduction through day-ahead load scheduling while also considering the best demand response (DR), and self-consumption of photovoltaic (PV). The EOSA method manages air conditioning (AC) and ensures thermal comfort. In addition, the SNN method was used to predict the optimal system control signal. Comparative analysis with existing systems, such as PSO, RFA, and BCO, showed that the proposed strategy resulted in 13% cost savings. The proposed system considered parameters, such as solar radiation, occupant presence, and electricity prices. The proposed technique is implemented in the MATLAB software, and the performance is compared with existing approaches. The efficiency of the proposed approach is higher than the existing techniques. © 2024 The Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers.

Data-Driven Power Flow Estimation for MVDC Distribution Systems Based on Physics-Embedded FCN

Maintaining high prediction accuracy with varying grid topologies poses a significant challenge to adopting neural network (NN)-based approaches for power flow (PF) estimation in medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) distribution systems. This paper proposes a physics-embedded fully convolutional network (PEFCN) to improve the accuracy. Physics-embedded techniques are incorporated in the proposed PEFCN through 1) architecture reconstruction, and 2) loss function reformulation. architecture is reconstructed by input channel conversion calculation in a new physics operation layer. This process offers physical connections among the three input matrix channels (voltage, current, and line conductance). Three new physics loss terms are included in the loss function to restrict the outliers violating the limits of converter power ratings and terminal MVDC voltages. The two operations enable the FCN to achieve improved prediction accuracy and strong generalization capabilities. Five MVDC distribution systems, characterized by different dc voltage levels and topology configurations, serve to validate the superiority of the proposed PEFCN over other NNs in the PF estimation for scenarios involving both fixed and varying system structures. Moreover, a modified IEEE 69-bus distribution system is further used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed PEFCN for larger systems. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Joint Prediction of SOH and RUL for Lithium Batteries Considering Capacity Self Recovery and Model Drift

Accurate monitoring of the state of health (SOH) and remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium batteries is a key technology to realize their stable and economic operation. The current data-driven methods have problems such as local prediction errors caused by capacity self-recovery effect, model drift phenomenon, and inaccurate trend prediction caused by complex degradation process. In this paper, we propose a joint SOH and RUL forecasting based on the fusion of Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN), Deep Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory Network (DBLSTM) and adaptive mechanism method (KAN-HDBLSTM-AM). The method innovatively introduces an adaptive mechanism that considers the capacity degradation trend for different prediction steps, suppresses the accumulation of errors in the model prediction process, and further improves the prediction accuracy by combining the nonlinear approximation capability of KAN and the mastery of data temporal characteristics of DBLSTM. Experimental validation shows that the proposed method can effectively overcome the prediction errors caused by capacity self-recovery and model drift, and can retain sufficient accuracy under long prediction steps, with the prediction trend being more in line with the actual change trend and the prediction error being smaller compared with other methods. © 2014 IEEE.

Hundreds of thousands of Java applications have been deployed in data centers at our production Cloud to support burst peak traffic. However, detecting performance bugs in Java can be difficult as they may not prevent the applications from running correctly, and may not even manifest at low loads. Profiling data collected from production provides insight into the actual running states of applications. In this paper, we aim to identify hot spots for further performance debugging by analyzing profiling data from tens of thousands of machines in the data center using a module-based approach. We present our practical experience with module classification, which allows for filtering of out-of-range modules and long-duration modules of high utilization. Our study proposes a heuristic solution to detect performance bugs in Java at scale. © 2023 IEEE.

Sports have scored significant attention among the public in this multifaceted world. Diverse training strategies are followed by many athletics and even flexible to adapt comfortable and optimal techniques. This fact has led physicians and educators to encourage remote health surveillance as one of the core strategies in athletic training. The need for innovative data exploration methodologies capable of facing Big Data's influence to make remote monitoring services viable has been raised by the growing ties of networks that deliver high quantities of real-time data. This paper presents an interactive healthcare data exploration and visualization(IHDEV) model to enhance multi-scaling data analysis and visualization in the athletic health vision platform. This paper aims to simplify optimization methods to measure sportsperson muscle tension. This model illustrates a three-layer architecture with a raw data acquisition layer, data analysis layer, and visualization layer. The first layer considers the acquisition of health-related data from the athletes for remote monitoring using IoT and stores it into the cloud. The data analysis layer adapts artificial intelligence(AI) in data mining. The final layer introduces an intelligent interactive data visualization model assisted by a reactive workflow mechanism, enabling analysis and visualization solutions to be composed in a personalized data flow appropriate to the athletic training. This experimental study extended with two healthcare datasets to show the feasibility of IHDEV in promoting healthcare based athletic monitoring and improves the accuracy ratio of 96.7%, prediction ratio of 96.2%, an efficiency ratio of 96.8%, Pearson correlation coefficient of 98.2%, and reduces the error rate of 18.7% compared to other conventional models.

The world we live in has been taken quite surprisingly by the outbreak of a novel virus namely SARS-CoV-2. COVID-19 i.e. the disease associated with the virus, has not only shaken the world economy due to enforced lockdown but has also saturated the public health care systems of even most advanced countries due to its exponential spread. The fight against COVID-19 pandemic will continue until majority of world’s population get vaccinated or herd immunity is achieved. Many researchers have exploited the Artificial intelligence (AI) knacks based IoT architecture for early detection and monitoring of potential COVID-19 cases to control the transmission of the virus. However, the main cause of the spread is that people infected with COVID-19 do not show any symptoms and are asymptomatic but can still transmit virus to the masses. Researcher have introduced contact tracing applications to automatically detect contacts that can be infected by the index case. However, these fully automated contact tracing apps have not been accepted due to issues like privacy and cross-app compatibility. In the current study, an IoT based COVID-19 detection and monitoring system with semi-automated and improved contact tracing capability namely COVICT has been presented with application of real-time data of symptoms collected from individuals and contact tracing. The deployment of COVICT, the prediction of infected persons can be made more effective and contaminated areas can be identified to mitigate the further propagation of the virus by imposing Smart Lockdown. In the era of expanding wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, safeguarding these networks against a spectrum of threats, including Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, is paramount. The innate resource limitations of sensor nodes often render conventional security measures ineffective. This study introduces a pioneering approach integrating minimalist machine learning techniques to combat DoS attacks within WSNs. Our methodology adeptly leverages machine learning capabilities while strategically curbing computational and resource demands. By distilling essential features from network traffic patterns, our model adeptly identifies aberrations signaling DoS attacks, all while preserving the efficiency of resource-limited sensor nodes. Its minimalist framework seamlessly integrates with existing WSN architectures, negating the need for substantial hardware upgrades and maintaining network performance. Results underscore the superior detection accuracy and efficiency of our minimalist machine learning strategy compared to traditional methods. Moreover, its scalability and adaptability render it ideal for deployment across varied WSN setups, fortifying them against DoS threats while safeguarding core network *** mitigating DoS attack impacts without burdening computational resources, our approach marks a significant stride towards bolstering the security and dependability of wireless sensor networks amid evolving threat landscapes. © 2024 IEEE.
