In this paper, a wireless networked control system with a local controller and remote controller is investigated. The observed states can be controlled directly by the local controller or controlled by the remote controller via an unreliable channel. In this scenario, we focus on a more realistic problem that the network might be faced with, that is, the lifespan of the network. However, this issue has received little attention. The lifespan of the network is considered in two-folds: 1) a stochastic sample and transmission scheme is adopted to reduce the power consumption and 2) the transmit power is optimized to guarantee the total transmission power limitation. In order to balance the control performance and the network lifespan, an optimization problem on communication and control co-design is formulated. In particular, we aim to jointly optimize the resource allocation and local/remote controls by minimizing the linear quadratic regulation (LQR) control cost under the constraints of transmit power and transmission probability. The results of the considered optimization problem show that there exists an optimal transmit power and the corresponding transmission probability that can minimize the control cost function. Numerical results are further provided to verify the theoretical analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we study the multistatic cooperative sensing assisted secure transmission via intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). To be specific, a multistatic cooperative sensing scheme is proposed to obtain the angle of arrival and the localization of the eavesdropping target to achieve the beam alignment accurately. Our goal is to maximize the sum secrecy rate by jointly optimizing the association variables of base station (BS) and users, the BS beamforming and the IRS phase shifts, subject to the requirement of target sensing. Due to the coupling of variables and nonconvex objective function, we decompose it into three subproblems and develop an alternative algorithm to solve them iteratively. The association variables are first obtained by successive convex approximation. Then, the BS transmit beamforming can be derived via the semidefinite relaxation. Finally, an alternating direction method of multiplier is adopted for the IRS phase-shift design. Simulation results indicate that the multistatic cooperative sensing via IRS can enhance the sensing performance and guarantee the security. © 2024 IEEE.

Load-Balanced and Length-Minimized Link Scheduling for Multi-Channel TDMA Wireless Mesh Networks

To minimize the length of scheduling and guarantee the load balance of channels, a Load-balanced and length-minimized link scheduling (LBLM) algorithm is proposed. LBLM algorithm is a heuristic scheme, which assigns time slots for unicast traffic based on link's weight and hop-count in the routing traffic tree. Thus the algorithm considers both primary and secondary interference, as well as guarantees the proportional fairness. The ns2 simulation results show that in multi-channel TDMA Wireless mesh networks (WMNs), the proposed algorithm has the benefits of lower complexity, shorter frame length and better channel balance compared to other well-known schedule mechanisms.

Multi-UAV Cooperative Search (MCS) can significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of search by enabling multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to collaborate in conducting search missions. Thus, it has played a vital role in various applications, such as surveillance, target detection, and information gathering. While existing works in this field mainly focused on a single UAV layer, in this work we consider a Multi-layered Aerial Computing Network (MACN) scenario, which consists of a Low-Altitude Platform (LAP) layer with multiple high-flexibility and low-capacity UAVs (called LUAVs) and a High-Altitude Platform (HAP) layer with one low-flexibility and high-capacity UAV (called HUAV). In such a scenario, We focus on the joint optimization of flying trajectories, computation offloading, and resource allocation, aiming at minimizing the uncertainty of Search Probability Map (SPM). The problem is challenging due to the co-existence of discrete and continuous decision variables, as well as the fast and randomly changing of wireless environment. To solve the problem in an online and distributed manner, we propose a Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning (MADRL) approach based on Parameter Sharing and Action Mask (PSAM), called PSAMMA, where the State-Action-Reward-State-Action (SARSA) method is leveraged to determine the discrete flying and offloading decisions. Experiment results show that the proposed PSAMMA algorithm outperforms existing methods in terms of the average SPM uncertainty, the target discovery rate, and the coverage rate.

The demand for precise timing continues to grow with the rapid development of smart cities, where intelligent transportation emerges as a critical application heavily dependent on accurate time distribution. Deterministic communication is anticipated to be a defining feature of nextgeneration mobile networks (6G), enabling end-to-end timecritical applications, and unlocking new possibilities for achieving end-to-end precise time synchronization as well. To cope with the challenge of delivering precise time synchronization across broader areas at a lower cost, this paper proposes a method to achieve end-to-end precise time synchronization by leveraging the deterministic characteristics of communication networks. Specially, the proposed approach adopts the Software-Defined networking (SDN) paradigm to implement deterministic networking for the seamless integration of Time-Sensitive networking (TSN) and cellular networks. Furthermore, to mitigate the impact of wireless channel uncertainties on synchronization accuracy, we propose a network delay measurement mechanism based on the principle of time redundancy, designed to reduce end-to-end network delay variation. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, demonstrating its capability to constrain the end-to-end relative time error of wired and wireless converged networks to the microsecond scale, without necessitating modifications to the existing network infrastructure.

Inference-Aware State Reconstruction for Industrial Metaverse under Synchronous/Asynchronous Short-Packet Transmission

We consider a real-time state reconstruction system for industrial metaverse. The time-varying physical process states in real space are captured by multiple sensors via wireless links, and then reconstructed in virtual space. In this paper, we use the spatial-temporal correlation of the sensor data of interest to infer the real-time data of the target sensor to reduce the mean squared error (MSE) of reconstruction for industrial metaverse under short-packet transmission (SPT). Both synchronous and asynchronous transmission modes for multiple sensors are considered. It is proved that the average reconstruction MSE and average block error probability (BLEP) have a positive correlation under inference with synchronous transmission scheme, whereas they have a negative correlation under inference with asynchronous transmission scheme in certain conditions. Additionally, the average reconstruction MSE decreases monotonically with the mean squared spatial correlation (MSSC), which characterizes the global spatial correlation level. With a high BLEP or long transmission period, even under weak MSSC, the inference scheme still significantly reduces the average reconstruction MSE compared to the no inference case. Moreover, closed-form MSSC thresholds are derived for the superiority regions of the inference with synchronous transmission and inference with asynchronous transmission schemes, respectively. Adaptations of blocklength and time shift of asynchronous transmission are conducted to minimize the average reconstruction MSE. Simulation results show that the two inference schemes outperform the no inference case, with an average MSE reduction of more than 50%. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Energy-Efficient Split Learning for Fine-Tuning Large Language Models in Edge Networks

In this letter, we propose an energy-efficient split learning (SL) framework for fine-Tuning large language models (LLMs) using geo-distributed personal data at the network edge, where LLMs are split and alternately across massive mobile devices and an edge server. Considering the device heterogeneity and channel dynamics in edge networks, a Cut lAyer and computing Resource Decision (CARD) algorithm is developed to minimize training delay and energy consumption. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach reduces the average training delay and server's energy consumption by 70.8% and 53.1%, compared to the benchmarks, respectively. © 2019 IEEE.
