With the rapid development and the richer content of the Internet, the copyright protection of the works should be further developed. The watermarking has become a possible solution. In this paper, firstly, a novel hybrid multiplicative rule is presented and utilized to embed the watermark into DWT coefficients controlled by the secret key. Secondly, the optimum and locally optimum hybrid multiplicative multi-watermarking decoders are proposed, respectively, which are based on the minimum Bayesian risk criterion. The DWT coefficients are modeled as the generalized Gaussian distribution. Nextly, the performance of the optimum hybrid watermarking decoder, i.e. the average bit error rate is theoretically analyzed. Then the security of the hybrid multiplicative watermarking scheme is compared with the existing schemes. Finally, experimental results prove the theoretical analysis valid.

Mobile data usage over cellular networks has been dramatically increasing over the past years. Wi-Fi based wireless networks offer a high-bandwidth alternative for offloading such data traffic. However, intermittent connectivity, and battery power drain in mobile devices, inhibits always-on connectivity even in areas with good Wi-Fi coverage. This paper presents WiFisense, a system that employs user mobility information retrieved from low-power sensors (e.g., accelerometer) in smartphones, and further includes adaptive Wi-Fi sensing algorithms, to conserve battery power while improving Wi-Fi usage. We implement the proposed system in Android-based smartphones and evaluate the implementation in both indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi networks. Our evaluation results show that WiFisense saves energy consumption for scans by up to 79% and achieves considerable increase in Wi-Fi usage for various scenarios.

We observe through simulations that an information sharing scheme using variable identifiers in mobile ad-hoc networks, which we previously proposed, enables us to heuristically find desired information by having identifiers varied. In the information sharing, people create identifiers that represent their interest, and information published by the people are probabilistically propagated using distances between identifiers of the people. The identifiers of the people dynamically change depending on people surrounding each person. Under a situation that an identifier is variable, we set how many times people obtained desired information to be an observation item. Also, we consider a process that people heuristically find desired information into a simulation model and set how many times people obtain such information to be an observation item. In simulations, we show examples of observation for these items.

This paper presents a hybrid congestion control algorithm supporting throughput efficiency, TCP friendliness and RTT fairness, in order to provide highly smart multimedia streaming over the Internet. Recent studies on TCP and TFRC are evolving to achieve better throughput efficiency and RTT fairness. Examples are Hybrid TCP congestion control, VTP and TCP-Libra, where the former two improve throughput efficiency of TCP and TFRC, respectively, and the last one improves RTT fairness of TCP. This paper integrates these ideas and propose a new congestion control algorithm, called Hybrid TFRC, for multimedia streaming. Experiments are carried out and effectiveness of our proposal is verified.

Virtual communities are gradually becoming an inherent part of modern life. Trust and reputation systems, which are considered key enablers of virtual communities, These systems support the accumulation of member reputation information and leverage this information to increase the likelihood of successful member interactions and to better protect the community from fraudulent members. Reputation information is an important part of a user's identity, which makes this data both sensitive and desired for communities to share. Reputation sharing is also motivated by the individual user that can leverage her state in new communities using the reputation she gained in others. In previous work we have presented the Cross-Community Reputation (CCR) model for sharing reputation knowledge among communities. The CCR model identifies the fundamental terms required for a meaningful sharing of reputation information among communities and proposes means to make the information sharing feasible. This paper presents the TRIC infrastructure for enabling CCR systems. The major concerns of TRIC are to protect the user's rights for privacy and control over her data and to draw some architecture guidelines that can be implemented in more than one way. We explain the major components required for this type of infrastructure and discuss known design alternatives and their tradeoffs in the case of TRIC.

The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a high-intensity proton-based accelerator that produces neutron beams for neutron-scattering research. As the most powerful pulsed neutron source in the world, the SNS accelerator has experienced an unprecedented beam instability that has a wide bandwidth (0 to 300 MHz) and fast growth time (10 to 100 μs). In this paper, we propose and analyze several FPGA-based designs for an active feedback damping system. This signal processing system is the first FPGA-based design for active feedback damping of wideband instabilities in high-intensity accelerators. It can effectively mitigate instabilities in high-intensity protons beams, reduce radiation, and boost the accelerator's luminosity performance. Unlike existing systems, which are designed using analog components, our FPGA-based active feedback damping system offers programmability while maintaining high performance. To meet the system throughput and latency requirements, we proposed these designs based on detailed analysis of resource and performance tradeoffs. We mapped these designs onto a reconfigurable platform that includes Xilinx® Virtex-II Pro FPGAs and high-speed analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. Our results show that our FPGA-based active feedback damping system can provide increased flexibility and improved signal processing performance that are not feasible with existing analog systems. ©2010 IEEE.

Combinatorial testing is a specification based sampling technique that provides a systematic way to select combinations of program inputs or features for testing. It has been applied over the years to test input data, configurations, web forms, protocols, graphical user interfaces and for testing software product lines. This tutorial introduces the fundamentals of combinatorial testing, including both practical and theoretical foundations, to provide a comprehensive introduction that is relevant to both test practitioners and software engineering researchers. The tutorial will present an overview of Combinatorial Test Design (CTD) and describe some state of the art research advances and domains where CTD has been applied. It will present the theoretical underpinnings of CTD and explain a few algorithmic techniques used to generate CTD samples, as well as describe recent work on practical extensions to these algorithms that allow for a broader use of CTD. A session devoted to modeling test problems using CTD will follow, with attendees obtaining hands-on experience using several realistic problems.

A new method for decision-tree-based recommender systems is proposed. The proposed method includes two new major innovations. First, the decision tree produces lists of recommended items at its leaf nodes, instead of single items. This leads to reduced amount of search, when using the tree to compile a recommendation list for a user and consequently enables a scaling of the recommendation system. The second major contribution of the paper is the splitting method for constructing the decision tree. Splitting is based on a new criterion - the least probable intersection size. The new criterion computes the probability for getting the intersection for each potential split in a random split and selects the split that generates the least probable size of intersection. The proposed decision tree based recommendation system was evaluated on a large sample of the MovieLens dataset and is shown to outperform the quality of recommendations produced by the well known information gain splitting criterion. © 2010 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI).
