Synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs) have attracted attention because they have no magnets. The position sensorless control of SynRMs at low speeds is desired, and several methods have been proposed. A new position sensorless control method for SynRMs in a very-low-speed region has been proposed by the authors. It involves superimposing a high-frequency current with a small constant amplitude, using a high-frequency current control system. This paper shows that robust position sensorless control against inductance variations can be realized using this proposed method. Experiments showed that the proposed method is very useful even in a very-low-speed region.

In this paper, we propose a hybrid missing data technique combine deletion and imputation of missing data. First, the proposed method deletes projects and/or metrics with high missing rate. Next, the proposed method imputes using analogy based imputation for remaining missing data. In the experiment, we compared estimation accuracies of multivariate liner regression in software development dataset. The results showed that mean balanced relative error was improved than conventional method.

Educational data mining (EDM) involves the application of data mining, machine learning, and statistics to information generated from an educational setting. In most school education, one teacher teaches many students. A periodic examination is used as a method to confirm that students have acquired skills. However, it is difficult to grasp the status of the student from each lesson, since examinations cannot be carried out easily. On the other hand, in programming classes, the students’ history of UNIX commands and source-code editing can be easily and automatically stored as log-data. Therefore, attempts have been made to estimate the student’s performance from this log-data, although their estimation accuracy is not high. In this research, we aim to extract those students who cannot keep up with programming lessons, rather than estimating the student’s performance from the log-data. Specifically, we propose a method for predicting dropouts using outlier detection to cluster data with unsupervised learning.

A camera has been widely used in practical fields with a diversity of purposes recently. There is a variety purpose of photography: images for memory, medical images for diagnosis, images for object recognition, surveillance images, and so on. In case of images for object recognition, the clarity of images is necessary to analyze the images which are obtained using vision sensors. However, a brightness of the image highly depends on the intensity of illumination in the certain environment. Therefore, we propose a method to solve the problems mentioned above by adjusting brightness automatically by utilizing CIE L*a*b* color space and fuzzy inference system. At first, the proposed method adjusts the brightness of a given image by considering both RGB component and L component of CIE L*a*b* color space. Secondly, the proposed method applies the fuzzy inference system to determine adjustment coefficients of each pixel for adjusting brightness of the image. Through the processes as mentioned above, we can obtain the result which is adjusted its brightness. To verify the proposed method, we compare the result image with two different images, a reference image, and an adjusted image by using offset. It is confirmed that the proposed method can adjust a given image efficiently and automatically.

Background: To our knowledge, no previous study has examined the inter-relationship between frailty, dysglycaemia, and mortality in frail older adults with type 2 diabetes who are on insulin therapy. We used continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) to profile this patient population and determine the prognostic value of CGM metrics. We hypothesised that incremental frailty was associated with increased hypoglycaemia or time below range (TBR). Methods: HARE was a multicentre, prospective, observational cohort study with mortality hazard analysis carried out in four hospitals in Hong Kong. Eligible participants were community-living adults aged 70 years and older;had had type 2 diabetes for 5 years or more;were on insulin therapy;were frail;and were not hospitalised at the time of frailty assessment and CGM recording. Glucose control was characterised according to the Advanced Technologies and Treatments for Diabetes 2019 international consensus clinical targets. Frailty index was computed, and comprehensive frailty assessments and targeted serum metabolic profiling were performed. The Jonckheere-Terpstra test for trend was used to analyse frailty index tertiles and variables. Inter-relationships between CGM metrics and frailty, glycated haemoglobin A_1c (HbA_1c), and serum albumin were characterised using adjusted regression models. Survival analysis and Cox proportional hazard modelling were performed. Findings: Between July 25, 2018, and Sept 27, 2019, 225 participants were recruited, 222 of whom had CGMs fitted and 215 of whom had analysable CGM data (190 were frail, 25 were not frail). Incremental frailty was associated with older age, greater HbA_1c, worse renal function, and history of stroke. Eight of 11 CGM metrics were significantly associated with frailty. Decreased time in range (TIR;glucose concentration 3·9–10·0 mmol/L) and increased time above range (TAR) metrics were strongly correlated with increased frailty and hyperglycaemia,

With the rapid development of the Internet and artificial intelligence, intelligent question answering systems have become current research hotspots because they can provide users with accurate answers and intelligent services. They are gradually entering the e-commerce field to replace some manual work. In this paper, we proposed several models including a user intent recognition model, a pattern of association rule mining model and a model of the entire e-commerce auto answering system. In addition, the application effects of these models were analysed. The models and analysis in this work are useful for constructing e-commerce automatic question answering system or making personalized recommendations and related services.

The 0/1 knapsack problem is a typical problem in the field of operational research and combinatorial optimization, and it belongs to the NP problem. Research on the solutions of the 0/1 knapsack problem algorithm has very important practical value. This paper first described the 0/1 knapsack problem, and then presented the algorithm analysis, design and implementation of the 0/1 knapsack problem using the brute force algorithm, the greedy algorithm, the genetic algorithm and the dynamic programming algorithm, and compared the four algorithms in terms of algorithm complexity and accuracy. On this basis, the future research directions of the 0/1 knapsack problem were analysed, and we proposed to use the rough set theory to solve the 0/1 knapsack problem. This paper can provide insight for solving the 0/1 knapsack problem and applications.

In this paper, we presented a novel pixelated structure for electrode plates and initiate an innovative design of capacitive couplers for wireless charging. This research aims to improve the poor performance of traditional electrode plates in the literature when the plates are rotated 90 degrees. This research utilized optimization technique to design the distribution of the positive (and negative) plate pixels, of which the optimization goal is to minimize the ripple of coupling coefficient vs the axial rotation angle. The simulation results show that the optimized electrode pattern is quite good and reasonable, proving that the algorism of the proposed optimization method is reliable.

As a critical role in overall human body reactions to foreign organisms, innate immune system, especially Mannose-binding lectin (MBL), has worked for the preservation of life. Since targeted therapy on bacterial infection using innate immune system has been researched for destroying pathogens without harming ourselves, MBL could be used for the targeted therapy. Based on three algorithms;Decision Tree Algorithm, Apriori Algorithm and Support Vector Machine, analysis on chemical bond formation by comparing the similarities between two proteins which have direct relevance with mannose could suggest the potential of utilizing proteins of MBL for targeting foreign factors. According to the results, Helicobacter pylori and Homo sapiens showed distinguishable features but indicated a few common factors. We could improve the targeting treatments by considering immunological approach using MBL;to analyze the possibility for forming chemical bond between human MBL and mannose of Helicobacter pylori.

Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is an attractive technology because it can supply power to IoT devices where battery replacement is difficult or the maintenance cost is high. Polarization Switching WPT antenna (PS-WPT antenna) is proposed in this paper. The polarization switching characteristic makes this design a good candidate for 5G-IoT sensors powered by using wireless power transfer. The 3GPP had standardized 5G-IoT [1]-[3] in June 2016. It provides deep indoor and wide area coverage extension of 20dB over GSM. The 5G-IoT network can support 50,000 users per cell and a battery life of more than ten years. The key problems of the 5G-IoT network protocol are the coordination and communication between large number of IoT devices and the base station. Using the PS-WPT antenna technology, the cell coverage could be separated into several partitions to wake up IoT devices within one partition of the cell to avoid the collision. The PS-WPT antenna has been designed and analyzed in this paper for the polling protocol to solve the problem of communication and collision between 50,000 IoT devices per cell within the base station.
