This study is concerned with a control system design method with frequency response data named a finite number of frequency responses(an FNFR) model. In this paper a numerical descent direction is introduced and an iterative method for solving control problems formulated with the FNFR model is proposed with the descent direction. One feature of our approach is to update controller variables so that they approach to a feasible region of considering control problems from the outside. The efficiency of our method is shown by numerical examples.

To provide examinees with appropriate question items, identifying and evaluating users' latent and acquired skills is important in e-learning systems. These latent skills are defined in terms of a Q-matrix. Constructing Q-matrices manually is relatively labor-intensive, because doing so requires expert insight as well as verbal examination to identify which skills students have mastered. Methods to extract a Q-matrix from examination results automatically using nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) have been explored, and improved methods such as online NMF have been proposed, which extracts an immutable Q-matrix from time-series data. In this study, we propose a data preprocessing method to improve the accuracy of NMF using a co-clustering method called an infinite relational model (IRM). We also describe experiments conducted using synthetic data, in which learners' skills and the bias in the number of their responses were evaluated, and show that the results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed approach.

The Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) are a system that provides an efficient learning environment by assigning questions that are suitable to the learner's skill state. To improve the performance of ITSs, conventional studies have proposed student models that can estimate skill states with high accuracy. However, these models were based on the assumption that the log data was correct. In other words, they do not take into account the possibility of students cheating or memorizing answers, assuming that the test was conducted fairly and impartially. In recent years, many examinations have been conducted online as a countermeasure against COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections, and students may be able to obtain hints for the examinations using the internet or books. In this way, it is important to know how students approach learning in order to estimate their skill state. In this study, we propose a method for estimating the latent state of learners using a model that combines Knowledge Tracing, the de-facto standard for student modeling method, and Item Response Theory.

This paper proposes a novel grid-connected inverter with LCL filters applied to IRM-ILQ (Inverse Reference Model - Inverse Linear Quadratic) control strategy. The IRM, which is feed-forward control, allows for realizing the fast response to current control without delay. The ILQ control gives an analytical solution for optimal control, and response speed in the closed-loop system is controlled. The IRM-ILQ control method simultaneously provides target tracking and error convergence, basically the IRM-ILQ control is the two-degree of freedom control. Owing to it, it can suppress surge current less than 58.6% during momentary power failure and make power factor keep unity even when command current value changes. The proposed grid-connected inverter is confirmed current tracking and an impressive adaptability to varying amplitude and phase of current by numerical simulations.

Many single-celled organisms exhibit both solitary and colonial existence. An important step towards multicellularity, which is associated with benefits such as enhanced nutrient uptake, was the formation of colonies of unicellular organisms. However, the initial drivers that favoured individual cells aggregating into more complex colonies are less clear. Here we show that hydrodynamic coupling between proximate neighbours results in faster feeding flows for neighbouring ciliates, such that individuals within a dynamic colony have stronger average feeding flows than solitary individuals. Flows generated by individuals acting together reach higher velocities, thus allowing access to a wider range of prey resources than individuals acting on their own. Moreover, we find that accrued feeding benefits are typically asymmetric: whereas all individuals benefit from acting together, those with slower solitary currents gain more from partnering than those with faster currents. We find that colonial organization in simple unicellular organisms is beneficial for all its members. This provides fundamental insights into the selective forces favouring the early evolution of multicellular organization. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited 2025.

This article describes the estimation of a 3D point using a Kinect sensor and the Robot Operating System (ROS) along with You Only Look Once (YOLO) for object detection. The Kinect sensor provides RGB-D images, which are used to create a Point Cloud representing the geometry of the environment. ROS is used as a robotics development framework, while YOLO is employed to identify objects in the scene. The article presents the packages used, the datasets used for measurement, and the configuration of ROS and YOLO. Additionally, the functionalities of RViz, a 3D visualization tool used in the tests, are explored. Furthermore, it covers the methods employed, the acquired data, and an analysis of the error margin in relation to the measurement of the distance between the Kinect and the object. The findings and techniques presented in this study contribute to addressing the challenges faced in the RoboCup@Home competition, specifically in the context of object manipulation tasks.

To directly investigate the dynamic nanoscale phenomenon on the surface being processed in wet conditions such as precision polishing, and cleaning in semiconductor industrial, an optical method for visualization and observation of each sub-100 nm sized particle that is moving on an interface such as a silica glass surface by applying an evanescent field have been proposing. Subsequently, we developed an experimental apparatus equipped with an optical microscopy system for verifying the moving particle observation method in a laboratory scale. This article introduces some experimentally direct observation results of duplicated wet processes.

A Q(t) meter is used to measure electrical properties in insulating materials. Here, Q(t) is the integral value of circuit current with time t. It is possible to measure the Q(t) of the insulation material of a capacitor and a cable by using Q(t) meter. The current through an insulating material is divided into an instantaneous charging current, an absorption current and an equilibrium leakage current. It is considered that the absorption current is related to charge accumulation in the insulating materials. In this paper, an enameled wire (1.6 PEW) is used to prepare a cable sample, the Q(t) of the coated polyester (PEs) is measured, and extraction of absorption current components from measured Q(t) are reported.

Animation drama and movies are important entertainment sources for children and young people. However, many of these entertainment videos introduce ideas such as violence, fighting, abuse, and car accidents, which are not suitable for children and young people. In order to prevent children from viewing these videos, different countries' government bodies put restrictions on age on these videos. Violence detection is mostly done using manual inspection, which is time and resource consuming and cannot achieve a very good result. Therefore, artificial technologies such as deep learning and machine learning can detect violence in a video. Bleeding is one of the distinct characteristics of violent actions presented in such videos. This paper aims to propose a system that can detect a given video's blood in real-time. Researchers have proposed different image processing-based techniques to detect violence, but their proposed systems lack precision and real-time detection. To this end, a deep learning-based approach is proposed to detect violence in given video and images. The original Faster R-CNN is modified due to the sophisticated characteristics of the violence in the cartoon and animation images to achieve highest performance. The backbone of the proposed violence detection model is changed to modified RegNet model to extract the features from the frame. The standard inner lateral connection is replaced with the modulated deformable convolutional (MDC) layer to extract deformable feature maps. A novel distributed attention module (DAM) is proposed on the feature pyramid network to improve the performance of the feature extraction. The multiscale Region of interest (ROI) Align is adapted to improve the detection performance of violence in different scenario. Moreover, the classification approach is integrated with detection model to classify the different level of violence in a given frame. Phasor-based differential protection is widely used as the main protection function of the power transformer due to its reliability and ability to discriminate internal from external faults and inrush currents. However, these methods present some delays due to phasor convergence during the fault occurrence and can fail during challenging situations, such as transformer energizations with low second-harmonic content and turn-to-turn and turn-to-ground internal faults. This paper proposes a novel time-domain power transformer differential protection based on Clarke and wavelet transforms with only one differential unit and with automatic setting to be used in any power transformer. Considering both actual and simulation data, the performance validation reveals that the proposed method is efficient, ultra-fast, simple, and independent of the fundamental and harmonic components of the differential current. The method was also implemented in a real-time digital simulator to demonstrate its practical feasibility.
