Energy Storage System with Dynamic Voltage Restorer Integrated For Wind Energy System

The permanent magnet induction generator (PMSG) based wind system that integrates with dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and the energy storage system (ESS) for backup power purpose is explained in this paper. The output power transmission of the wind energy generation is interfaced with the dynamic voltage restorer in series. The energy storage system and the dc-link capacitor are parallel to the PMSG based wind system. The proposed system is to control the fluctuations in wind power and compensate the disturbed grid voltages. The bidirectional converter controls the power flow in both directions as the power flow from the source to battery and battery to the voltage source inverter (VSI) compensates the grid voltage disturbances through the voltage injection performance and transformer. The DVR-based energy storage system results for the wind energy conversion system are validated using in MATLAB/Simulink.

Today scientific knowledge relentlessly bringing change and comfort in day to day life. In Present generation, an autonomous robot has been a popular technology which is widely used in many areas. Robots are used to share the work and act more autonomously in performing the jobs faster than humans. Usually, Robots are more intelligent with endless energy levels and more precise in handling the jobs perfectly. However, the proposed robot design is about researching and investigating hazardous environments, exploration, remote assistance and Military services. In the given system design, a robot system is built to monitor and identify the motion in achieving better security and surveillance of indoor environments. This autonomous system is built by using an embedded system to perform specific tasks and function as defined. This robotic system has five different systems such as robotic arms for pick and place of the objects from conveyor belts, an ultrasonic sensor for distance calculation, a visionary system for recording the motion of invader and sending the pictures through video transmission system through a network. Fire sensor is used for detection of fire and a giving alarm in the environment. The location of the robotic system is defined with GPS longitude and latitude values. This information is sent through a network using things speak and the same information is displayed on the LCD. A GSM message is sent through mobile for giving an alert about the operation. The robot designed has two modes of operation. One is the autonomous mode, and the other is the manual mode using a remote supervisory system. The deigned work combines the sensory and remote supervising system for better robotic security. The path planning is also carried out in a robotic system for achieving the motion in real time and obstacle avoidance. In the carried work the results are clearly discussed and overall work is defined with the coding details as well. © 2018 IEEE.

2021 4th International Conference on Mechatronics and computer technology engineering (MCTE 2021) has been held successfully on October 15-17, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world and with the strict travelling rules in China, it is still difficult to take international travel for our attendees abroad. Therefore, MCTE 2021 was held both in physical (Xi'an, China) and online (Zoom). The conference mainly focuses on mechatronics, computer technology engineering, computer science and other research fields, aiming at providing a platform for experts, scholars, engineers and technical researchers engaged in mechatronics, computer technology engineering and computer science research to share scientific research achievements and cutting-edge technologies, understand academic development trends, broaden research ideas, strengthen academic research and discussion, and promote cooperation in industrialization of academic achievements. Experts, scholars, business people and other relevant personnel from universities and research institutions at home and abroad are cordially invited to attend and exchange. During the conference, the conference model was divided into three sessions, including oral presentations, keynote speeches, and online Q&A discussion. In the first part, some scholars, whose submissions were selected as the excellent papers, were given about 5-10 minutes to perform their oral presentations one by one. Then in the second part, keynote speakers were each allocated 30-45 minutes to hold their speeches. There were 90 individuals who attended this hybrid conference. Multispectral Image Analysis (MIA) is an exciting area of research and famous due to its utilization in geo monitoring, such as environmental change detection and region classification. Currently, many other areas are also emerging and are utilizing the multispectral imagery for improving the existing business processes and ensuring the reliability in the existing business methods. However, the process of generating and analyzing multispectral data needs more sophisticated techniques and methods. Also, the multispectral data possesses some temporal and structural inconsistencies, which make the existing multispectral analysis a more challenging task. Therefore, this study surveys the practical implication and possible issues in multispectral image analysis. For that reason, this study aims to investigate the two simple research questions and follow a structured analysis approach to achieve the research objectives. The rest of the paper is structured as; Section II briefly explains the systematic methodology adopted for this survey. Section III is relevant to research finding in response to the RQ1 and RQ2. Finally, Section IV presents the conclusion of this study. In future work, we will sharpen this study towards Skin Disease Analysis using Multispectral Imagery.

Comparative investigation of remote tracking devices for aging care

Tracking devices help the elderly patients to remain safe, secure and traceable in case of getting lost or in an emergency. This research work was conducted to evaluate the appropriateness of few commercially available tracking devices for aging people, by identifying their usefulness, efficiency, limitations and further improvements. Research involved two steps;literature review about two existing tracking devices simply termed device A and device B, followed by a performance and comparative analysis of the aforementioned devices by applying basic statistics on the results obtained from a questionnaire survey. Devices were used by two groups of people: aging (>70 year old) and middle-aged patients (less than 70 years old) who reported their satisfaction levels about the said devices on a scale of one to five. These devices were found helpful in reducing the dependency of the elderly on others and raised their privacy values. However, these were not recommended for severe memory loss or later stage of critical staged dementia patients because learning and memorizing the process of handling these devices can be difficult for them. Overall, the performance of device B outplayed device A while comparing all considered device parameters. The calling feature of device B appeared to be an appealing characteristic with mean satisfaction levels of 4.9 ± 0.32 and 4.7 ± 0.48 as reported by the middle-aged and aging groups, respectively. These devices will be helpful in decreasing unnecessary rush at health care centers or lost person reporting in police. In upcoming years, these devices can be developed to remotely monitor the movement of the patient. © 2017, Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management.

Sea and sky boundary identification (i.e. marine horizon line detection) from a marine image is a problem of great interest for reasons such as, unmanned surface or aerial vehicle navigation, surveillance by object detection and tracking, and determining the spatial orientation of the ship. Due to the complexity of the marine environment, the problem poses its own unique challenges. In recent years, different methods have been proposed by the researchers to solve the problem. Those methods can be grouped into two categories; (i) edge detection based horizon detection, and (ii) machine learning-based horizon detection. In this paper, we present a survey on edge detection based recent marine horizon line detection methods and their applications. We have selected studies from the previous three years and discussed each study's approach to marine horizon line detection issue, the datasets used for testing purposes and its results. The authors' observations for each study are presented with a recommendation for their suitability for a specific application in the marine environment. Findings of the survey and future research directions for the researchers are also identified and presented. We hope that this survey paper provides a comprehensive overview of edge detection based recent marine horizon line detection methods and help the researchers in exploring new solutions to this challenging problem.

General framework for testing using formal languages

Currently, when a technology is defined (Bluetooth, GSM, UMTS or LTE), it is mandatory to think about an infrastructure with an abstract test suite, codecs, timeframes, etc. that will support the design of a new testing architecture. If, in addition, the testing methodology used is for different purposes, such as protocol conformance, radio conformance, radio performance or network conformance, the result is a redundant effort in the design and development of different test systems, increasing costs, development time and reducing reusability. In this paper it is shown how a framework for formal languages such as TTCN can be realized in a common adapter layer capable of sharing a model for any technology and testing methodology, reducing costs, improving time and avoiding redundant designing efforts. © 2017, Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management.

A novel hybrid biometric electronic voting system: Integrating finger print and face recognition

A novel hybrid design based electronic voting system is proposed, implemented and analyzed. The proposed system uses two voter verification techniques to give better results in comparison to single identification based systems. Finger print and facial recognition based methods are used for voter identification. Cross verification of a voter during an election process provides better accuracy than single parameter identification method. The facial recognition system uses Viola-Jones algorithm along with rectangular Haar feature selection method for detection and extraction of features to develop a biometric template and for feature extraction during the voting process. Cascaded machine learning based classifiers are used for comparing the features for identity verification using GPCA (Generalized Principle Component Analysis) and K-NN (K-Nearest Neighbor). It is accomplished through comparing the Eigen-vectors of the extracted features with the biometric template pre-stored in the election regulatory body database. The results of the proposed system show that the proposed cascaded design based system performs better than the systems using other classifiers or separate schemes i.e. facial or finger print based schemes. The proposed system will be highly useful for real time applications due to the reason that it has 91% accuracy under nominal light in terms of facial recognition. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). Pharmacotherapy of diet-restriction-induced-anorexia nervosa with fluoxetine in rats

Diet is an important factor in the control and improvement of various psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, hyperactivity and behavioral impulsivity. Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a psychological problem that occurs most commonly in adolescent females although men are also susceptible. The patients exhibit self-imposed, reduced body weight, anxiety, hyperactivity and behavioral impulsivity. The involvement of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in the regulation of hunger and mood is well documented. Studies have shown that the hyperactivity elicited by diet restrictions (DR) could result from increased sensitization of somatodendritic 5-HT1Aautoreceptors, thus leading to a decreased brain serotonin turnover. Fluoxetine; a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) is, generally, used as an antidepressant. Fluoxetine increases extracellular serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake from the synaptic cleft and later by desensitization of 5-HT-1A somatodendritic autoreceptors in the brain. The present experiment is designed to monitor the effects of fluoxetine administration to desensitized 5-HT1A receptors that may increase serotonin concentration in DR rats. Results may be helpful to inhibit behavioral deficits induced by diet-restriction-induced AN in rats. Methods: Fluoxetine at low dose and high dose was given orally to respective freely fed or diet restricted animals daily for five weeks. Behavioral activities were also monitored weekly. Results: Fluoxetine (at a low dose and high dose) increased significantly food intake and body weight in diet restricted rats. Fluoxetine also produced anxiolytic-like effects in DR rats measured as decreased activity in the open field and increased time spent in the light compartment. This might be associated with increased serum tryptophan and brain serotonin metabolism.
