This paper is in continuation to the paper [1] that has discussed the case study in very detail;now this paper is highlighting the statistical procedures to be used for accessing the model accuracy level. This research study will be employed as guidance for software houses registered with Pakistan Software Export Body. The project under demonstration is now a complete ERP system a real life project that has been assigned by PSEB to a newly established company as a part of its "Industrial Automation Program", whose single module was discussed in earlier version of this paper. It highlights two aspects: first, list of estimation readings following the procedures as discussed in previous version of this paper;and second, review and calculations of statistical validation procedures with the need for using which procedure in what circumstances. In lasts the interpretation of result for making the right selection. The estimation model under observation is again COCOMO that satisfies the criteria for model evaluation and supports all possible effort multipliers for justifying software development effort cost under any organizational circumstances and also supports their calibration.

The relationship among the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), aperiodic autocorrelation co-efficient and power variance (PV) is discussed. We show that low values of PV do not always correspond to low values of PAPR as has been mentioned in literature. Hence PV cannot be used as a basis for comparison and measure of PAPR for OFDM signals. Further through simulations we assert that PV can be a good criterion for high values for PAPR, while for the moderate ones it might fail. Finally, we show that PV based comparison in SLM and PTS techniques gives degraded PAPR performance compared to the actual PAPR based comparison.

The SONET systems are faster than the other optical network but there is a problem of allocation of static channels to the users. If one of the users is in idle condition the channel remains unused through out the whole process of frame transmission, this problem decreases the efficiency of the SONET system. In order to overcome this deficiency it is required to design the allocation of the channels dynamically, making the channels not dedicated to any specific user, and any channel could be utilized at any particular time if it is in idle state. Both reserved and priority based channelization are discussed and compared with dynamic channelization.

Digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H) is based on the earlier standard DVB-T, which is used for terrestrial TV broadcasting. This new standard brings features that make it possible to receive digital video broadcast of DVD quality video and sound in handheld devices, it also offers reliable high data rate reception for mobile & battery powered devices, The paper discusses and compares the key technology elements 4 K and 2 K modes, in-depth interleavers, time slicing and multi protocol encapsulation-forward error correction (MPE-FEC). In addition, extensive range of SER performance results on software based simulations is provided. The result suggest that by using an erasure decoding method with the Ree -Solomon code & cyclic redundancy check error detection as the link layer forward error correction, the strength of the signal is much higher while error detection & correction becomes doubles.

Aperiodic autocorrelation and power variance are two parameters that play an important role in PAPR reduction in OFDM symbols. In this paper, we have tackled the aperiodic autocorrelation factor and based on it, two algorithms have been proposed. In the first algorithm, called Selective Autocorrelation (SA), the value of first aperiodic autocorrelation coefficient is minimized to 1 for reducing the PAPR. In the second algorithm, called Selected Sequences with Variable Autocorrelation SLM (SSVA), multiple sequences are generated by modifying a fixed number of complex numbers. The one giving minimum PAPR is transmitted. Simulation results show significant reduction in PAPR. Further a novel technique based on data insertion is used to handle the side information generated by the two algorithms without degrading the PAPR performance.

Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) is one of the fastest growing Internet application. This paper focuses on the support of VoIP over 802.11x WLAN. A multiplexing scheme for VoIP is provided which exploits multicasting over WLAN for the downlink VoIP traffic. The 802.11x WLAN can support more than 500 VoIP sessions, but due do the inclusion of large number of over headers this ratio comes to only few VoIP sessions by using GSM 6.10 codec standard. This paper shows the VoIP standard 802.11g is the best by comparing the three standards 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g as well for both CBR and VBR voice sources. This has been discussed by using the features of multicast mode of WLAN by which the large overhead effects of VoIP can be reduced. This paper shows this simulation and calculations, based on multiplex-multicast scheme through which the number of VoIP sessions can be increased and determine the best VoIP standard for CBR and VBR sources.

Operation, control and protection system can be implemented to cover various industries starting from small scale industries to wide area operation and controlling. Wide area controlling and operation are mainly for oil and gas sector, water and power industries. Power Control operation with supervisory control data acquisition (SCADA) System is mandatory to run smooth electricity distribution and management. High scale SCADA system with enhanced features not only used for wide area system operation, but also covers distribution management system (DMS), energy management system (EMS), various network applications and metering management systems. This implementation includes significant performance and design parameters for smooth operation, control and protection in wide area operations.

Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) smart grid system is determining the needs of all the vital aspects e.g. daily workflow, workforce management, asset management, call center philosophy, billing systematic etc. AMR system could cover variety of installation techniques meeting customer requirements. The concepts presented include installation of standalone automated metering system which only enable monitoring of load on transformers, automated reading with full controlling features using SCADA system where as metering management system operating separately. Moreover, it also includes automated meter reading with limited controlling and enhanced function of SCADA system. More advanced features of an integrated AMR, enhanced distribution management system with full controlling, monitoring and Geographic Information System (GIS) are also addressed. AMR smart grid system provides fundamental benefits including efficient power system control and monitoring, Timely operational decisions to minimize outages and losses and acquiring meter readings of several energy interchange points and many 11 KV incoming and outgoing feeders.

KESC is an electrical utility company involved in generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy in karachi, Pakistan. The total number of consumers of KESC to date is around 2.0 million. KESC started installing OPGW for providing data to the SCADA system in 1998 and till year 2006 around 151 km OPGW is installed. These OPGW cables connect the SCADA system to 8 power generating stations including the KESC generation stations and 56 grid stations of IPPs. In the course of testing and monitoring the installed OPGW, it was revealed that the OPGW installed at various transmission lines have been damaged. On close inspection of the samples taken from the damaged OPGW, it is found that the outer OPGW layer was almost melted and strings were broken. The optical fiber cable inside OPGW was also tested with the OTDR and it was also found broken. Therefore, it is concluded that the outer OPGW layer could not stand the voltage introduced due to the lighting strokes. In addition, the distance between the hanging OPGW was not enough to withstand the million of volts and a flash occur between OPGW. In this paper, the selection criteria of OPGW cables based on engineering specification are discussed. This paper also discusses the methods and standardized test procedures for OPGW cables. Finally, the replacement strategy of the conventional ground wire by OPGW is presented.

Due to increasing demand for simulation and modeling, efforts are needed to build up more powerful simulation and modeling methodologies that can help to facilitate learning complex dynamic systems. By learning we mean the acquisition of knowledge, skills and experience for better and faster learning of the various types of complex dynamic systems. System dynamics is one of the successful well formulated methodologies that provides a perfect framework for building highly interactive learning environments where learners involve in reasoning about the relationships between the structure and the dynamics of a complex system. In this paper, we address two recent well known approaches (Black-Box and Glass-Box) that enhance learning capabilities in a typical complex dynamic system and demonstrate the overall learning effectiveness by using their own methodologies. Furthermore, we present a critical comparison of traditional black-box approach and the innovative glass-box approach. In addition, we also present two experiments that are associated with the black-box approach. These experiments will be very helpful for understanding the inadequacy of a black-box approach when compare it to the glass-box approach. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2008.
