Video Summarization is one of the most important processes in multimedia applications. It is the process of taking a few segments of each scene to create a video summary that describes the story of an entire video in a short amount of time. Automatic video summarization has many applications which would benefit several domains of healthcare, security, surveillance, and other many applications. However, creating a comprehensive video summary that encompasses keyframes of video shots is a challenging task in terms of providing well representative features extraction and features classification techniques. The main objective of this study is to produce informative video summarization, conveying interestingness, representativeness, and visual semantic information. That’s in addition to preserving the continuous flow of motion information for video sequence. Therefore, this paper proposed SURF and Hog techniques for features description, and Covariance matrix (CM) for features reduction. Fuzzy C-mean clustering algorithm is proposed for features classification and generation summary based keyframes selection. The experiments are conducted using annotated video sequences SumMe and VSUMM datasets. The obtained results showed good performance of proposed method achieving average F-score of 0.5197 on SumMe videos, and 0.9221 on VSUMM videos. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming numerous domains, including bioinformatics and information extraction systems, by advancing data processing capabilities, enhancing precision, and facilitating automation. The primary aim of this research is to examine the function of AI within the realms of bioinformatics and information extraction through a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative component involved a sample of 152 participants, recognised as experts in bioinformatics and data science. The survey findings underscore the prevalent integration of AI in bioinformatics, particularly through the utilisation of reinforcement learning, neural networks, and natural language processing (NLP). Furthermore, AI substantially improves the analysis of biological data;however, it encounters challenges such as limited model interpretability and the lack of data standardisation. Notwithstanding these obstacles, AI-driven innovations in disease prognosis, personalised healthcare, and pharmaceutical development are anticipated to shape the future trajectory of bioinformatics. The qualitative findings, derived through thematic analysis encompassing core themes and sub-themes, reveal that AI significantly contributes to accelerating and refining information extraction processes. Technologies such as machine learning, NLP, and neural networks are instrumental in enhancing data processing efficiency. Nonetheless, issues such as inadequate data quality, elevated computational expenses, and the intricacy of AI models remain persistent. Looking ahead, AI is projected to integrate more effectively with big data infrastructures, enable real-time information extraction, and deliver increasingly tailored solutions. The study concludes with several policy recommendations to guide future implementation strategies. © 2025 Regional Association for Security and crisis management. All rights reserved.

American Sign Language (ASL) recognition aims to recognize hand gestures, and it is a crucial solution to communicating between the deaf community and hearing people. However, existing sign language recognition algorithms still have some drawbacks, such as difficulty recognizing hand movements and low recognition accuracy for most sign language recognition. A Modified Convolutional Neural Network (MCNN) deep residual 101 classifier-based American Sign Language identification system has been developed to address this problem. There are three main parts presents in the method. The first part is pre-processing the images to remove the noise, enhance the contrast of the picture, adjust the contrast level and smoothen the picture using various filters. The second part is the segmentation, and it’s used to partition the image using a modified canny edge detection method by removing all weak edges present in the image. Finally, classification will be done using the Modified CNN deep residual 101 classifiers. By classifying the image, the American Sign Language is accurately identified. This process is conducted through images. The outcome shows that the suggested approach has a 0.97% accuracy and a 0.05% False Positive Rate. Other CNN architectures such as resNet 50 and resNet 18 reached 0.90% and 0.80% accuracy, respectively, which is lower than our proposed method. In addition, the resNet 101 classifier effectively recognizes the difficult hand gestures through the image data. It obtains high recognition accuracy for 36 signs is 0 to 9 numbers and a to z alphabets from American Sign Language. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Optimized Visual Recognition Through a Deep Convolutional Neural Network With Hierarchical Modular Organization

Artificial Intelligence, including machine learning and deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs), relies on complex algorithms and neural networks to process and analyze data. DCNNs for visual recognition often require access to high-performance hardware, such as GPUs and cloud-based computing resources, to perform tasks efficiently. Visual recognition requires DCNNs with numerous layers. Fully connected layers in DCNNs are often the most computationally intensive. These layers connect every neuron in one layer to every neuron in the next layer, resulting in a large number of parameters to compute. To mitigate redundancy and make DCNNs more efficient, this article implements and demonstrates the concept to identifying and removing redundant or low-impact connections from fully connected layers using convolution neural network with hierarchical modular organization. The modularity of the DCNNs is built based on the cluster hierarchy of the similar image. These clusters are created based on a novel similarity metric, which measures how closely related images are to each other. The architecture uses multiple smaller DCNNs, referred to as modules, designed to progressively classify images into super clusters according to their similarity. Experimental results using popular image datasets show that the proposed DCNNs model to optimized number of operations by 49% to 99% and keeps its performance comparable. © 2024 The Authors.

Background: Investors estimate how a company's stock or financial instrument will perform in the future, which is known as the stock market prediction. Stock markets are one of the many industries that have benefited substantially from the incredible breakthroughs in machine learning. To effectively estimate these markets, many researchers and companies are continually researching and developing various state-of-the-art approaches and algorithms. Objective: The objective is to predict stock prices based on public sentiments. With a big collection of data from microblogging sites like Twitter, it is possible to analyse the thoughts or feelings of users on a wide scale. These sentiments play a major part in the way the stock market works. We review multiple papers and provide the advantages and disadvantages of various methods. Methods: An in-depth examination of the most recent methodologies for predicting stock market values using sentiment analysis is offered, as well as the multiple consequences for stock markets when epidemics or major events occur. Results: According to the findings, impact sentiment analysis has a significant part in predicting stock market price movement, allowing for greater profit. Conclusion: With modern machine learning and deep learning processes, we can forecast stock costs with a few degrees of precision. This research examines how stock expectations have changed over time, as well as the most recent and effective technique for forecasting, supplying, and minimizing speculators' losses. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

Urban heat island (UHI) effects, especially in highly urbanised areas, and greenhouse gas emissions from human activity are two elements that accelerate global climate change (GCC). Sustainable city planning and modification may benefit from the quantification of the surface UHI (SUHI) effect utilising land surface temperature (LST), local climate zones (LCZ), and deep learning methods like convolutional neural networks (CNN) and pix2pix. The findings show that socioeconomic variables account for 12–20% of variability in UHI intensity. In general, the contribution rate of urban economic scale is higher than that of population and industrial structure variables. The increase in urban economic expansion increased summertime heat discomfort. This research propose novel method in socioeconomic analysis based on urban heat pattern analysis with public healthcare system using decision-making with DL (deep learning) model. Input is collected as urban heat pattern dataset and processed for noise removal and normalisation. This data has been features are extracted and classified using convolutional fuzzy Q-Gaussian neural network and variational K-C-means regressive learning. The simulation analysis has been carried out based on training accuracy, average precision, recall, and F-measure. The proposed model attained average precision was 94%, recall was 90%, training accuracy was 97%, and F1-score was 92%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The recognition of individual activity has proven its importance in many application areas. Even after the pandemic crisis worldwide, the remote monitoring of human actions and their activities has increased a lot. In such situations, the smart sensors are utilized to capture the details remotely, share, and process intelligently using the computer-assisted machine. This paper introduces the new variant of the machine learning classifier, named Grid Search Based Nonlinear Multi-task Least Squares Twin Support Vector Machine (GMLT-SVM), to recognize human actions using sensory data. The proposed approach uses the grid search for hyperparameter tuning with a Nonlinear kernel for Multi-task classification in a twin support vector machine. This not only increases the efficacy of the model but also reduces the computation time for finding the optimal values of the hyper-parameters. The proposed approach when experimented with the sensory data of Human Action Recognition (HAR) gives an accuracy of 96.8%. The comparative analysis of the proposed method with existing other ML classifiers gives an increase in the accuracy of 94.2±2.6%. The experimental results suggest that the gained results are statistically significant enough to recognize human actions with sensory data. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In-Group Bias in Deep Learning-Based Face Recognition Models Due to Ethnicity and Age

Humans are known to favor other individuals who exist in similar groups as them, exhibiting biased behavior, which is termed as in-group bias. The groups could be formed on the basis of ethnicity, age, or even a favorite sports team. Taking cues from aforementioned observation, we inspect if deep learning networks also mimic this human behavior, and are affected by in-group and out-group biases. In this first of its kind research, the behavior of face recognition models is evaluated to understand if similar to humans, models also encode group-specific features for face recognition, along with where bias is encoded in these models. Analysis has been performed for two use-cases of bias: age and ethnicity in face recognition models. Thorough experimental evaluation leads us to several insights: (i) deep learning models focus on different facial regions for different ethnic groups and age groups, and (ii) large variation in face verification performance is also observed across different sub-groups for both known and our own trained deep networks. Based on the observations, a novel bias index is presented for evaluating a trained model's level of bias. We believe that a better understanding of how deep learning models work and encode bias, along with the proposed bias index would enable researchers to address the challenge of bias in AI, and develop more robust and fairer algorithms for mitigating bias as well as developing fairer models. © 2020 IEEE.
