Digital circuits operating in space are susceptible to Single Event Upsets (SEU) caused by radiation. The single event upset (SEU) susceptibility is more pronounced in newer technology nodes and SRAM based FPGAs. In processors implemented with these FPGA-based systems, the resultant soft errors may lead to silent data corruption (SDC) and functional interruption (FI), spawning adverse effects which may even result in mission failure. Hence, there is a need to detect soft errors and correct them immediately to safeguard applications from SDC and FI. In this paper, the design of a watchdog circuit that can alert the system when potential radiation upsets occur in a pipelined processor by identifying a corrupted state change is proposed. A machine learning decision tree model is first built which maps the processor register values to the processor state at any given instant of time. This model is then converted to a logic function from which the watchdog circuit is derived. The decision tree model achieves F-score values of 0.99 and 0.94 in the two simulation regimes tested. The corresponding watchdog circuit implemented in hardware is miniscule at 190 logic gates and achieves an extremely fast maximum inference time of 2.1 nanoseconds. The performance metrics obtained from the watchdog circuit are in line with the decision tree model when the fault simulations are re-run with new data. © 2021 IEEE.

In this article, for the first time, the dynamics and performance of a diaphragm thermoacoustic Stirling oscillator (DTASO) are investigated using a graphical method and a genetic algorithm (GA). In this regard, first, the graphical method is implemented on the nonlinear dynamics of the oscillator. Then, with the help of the proposed graphical method, the condition of creating a stable limit cycle (stable oscillations in the nonlinear dynamics of the oscillator) is examined based on the data of a desired oscillator graphically. After that, using the describing function (DF) method and the GA, important parameters of the oscillator such as operating frequency, generating work, and output power are calculated. Finally, the obtained results are compared with the results of a desired oscillator. The results of this study show that the proposed method can predict the stable limit cycle of the diaphragm TASO (the most important challenge for designers) effectively and also predict the performance of the oscillator (such as frequency, work, and output power) with an acceptable approximation. It is worth mentioning that the proposed method can be used to examine other types of TASOs as well in this article.

We numerically study current density dependence of magnetization dynamics in a local area induced by the spin-orbit torque as a source of spin waves. The precession frequency of magnetization dynamics shows large change at a critical current density, which controls the wave length of spin waves. The origin of the change is due to the increase of exchange field caused by the magnetization torsion at the interface between SOT-applied and non-applied regions. Our new finding gives a way to manipulate spin wave’s properties by controlling the magnetization direction in a local area.

We study numerical simulation of highly efficient oscillation of magnetization in a ferromagnetic local region using the spin-orbit torque. It is found that in the presence of multiple SOT regions, the precession motion can be excited at a lower current density through the interaction. This interaction is caused by spin waves, and as a result, phase control between the precession motions is possible through the gap between the areas. Our new finding indicates that the interaction between the wave source and the spin wave is very complex in devices that utilize the interference effects of spin waves.

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) services has led to increased mobile user participation in related computations and interactions. This development has enabled AI-generated characters to interact with Virtual Reality (VR) users in real time, making the VR experience more interactive and personalized. In this paper, we consider an MEC system where VR users engage in AIGC services, focusing on the Generative Diffusion Model (GDM)based image generation tasks. Specifically, VR users initiate requests for computing resources, while computation offloading distributes the processing load across the MEC system. To manage AIGC edge computation offloading and cloudlet-VR user connections jointly, a Data Center Operator (DCO) employs a centralized Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm. To protect VR users’ privacy while preserving PPO functionality, we employ the Generative Diffusion Model (GDM), specifically the Denoising Diffusion Implicit Model (DDIM), which first introduces noise to the PPO state, then conducts a denoising process to recover the state information. We further employ Inverse Reinforcement Learning (IRL) to infer rewards for the recovered states, using expert demonstrations trained by the PPO. The similarity between PPO-generated rewards and IRL-inferred rewards is then computed. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed approach successfully achieves computation offloading while protecting VR users’ privacy within the PPO centralized management framework.

Overall lockdown limitations toward the start of the year 2020 are credited to the annihilation and fatalities worldwide because of COVID-19. Most of the nations revealed rapid growth of COVID-19 cases and subsequently declared lockdown in several stages. Because of these lockdowns, industries had to stop producing goods other than the actual merchandise needed to survive. The air quality and natural water quality witnessed a noticeable improvement from limited human activity. This paper presents an investigation demonstrating this improvement under various lockdown periods, specifically for the Indian subcontinent. The rivers and atmosphere of Indian settings have been utilized here as a contextual analysis associated with industrial pollution. This work aims to study the associations and interrelationships between lockdowns during COVID-19 and their effect on air and water quality. The paper presents then and now an analysis of the Indian atmosphere based on various particulate matters and river health based on the biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, and dissolved oxygen. The study indicated a significant dip in air and water pollution levels and a significant improvement in the atmosphere and rivers’ quality during this period. Significant water bodies witnessed the pH level of 7.5 amidst lockdown, which is a good indicator of improved water health since the pH level of drinkable water is 7. The analysis carried out in this paper can also be mapped to other countries and landscapes of the world.

N-(3-Amino-4-methyl phenyl)benzamide is an intermediate product for the production of several medicines. Micro-reactor technology is a new concept for the continuous synthesis of chemicals. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method was used to simulate the N-(3-Amino-4-methyl phenyl)benzamide flow synthesis. There was a great agreement between experimental data and modeling outputs. Operating parameters’ effect such as temperature and residence time on system performance was investigated. The results revealed that an increase in temperature from 30 °C to 70 °C led to the enchantment of N-(3-Amino-4-methyl phenyl)benzamide production from about 42% to 76% at 420 s residence time. It was found that the residence time and temperature have the main influence on N-(3-Amino-4-methyl phenyl)benzamide production. The by-product production was also increased by increasing the temperature and residence time. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

It is obvious that the next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, are poised to be the next big revolution in personalized healthcare, and caused the amount of available sequencing data growing exponentially. While NGS data processing has become a major challenge for individual genomic research, commodity computers as a cost-effective platform for distributed and parallel processing in laboratories can help processing such huge volume of data. To deploy sequence-processing methods on these platforms, in this paper we present a parallel computational model for BLAST on commodity clusters that works in a data parallel manner. The suggested model has a master-worker paradigm. The master stores temporarily incoming requests and splits the database to chunks according to the number of available workers. Each worker pulls, formats, and searches queries against a unique chunk of the database. To show that our model works well, we used queries with different lengths to search against a small database (i.e. UniProtKB/SWISS-PROT) and a large database (i.e. UniProtKB/TrEMBL). The results were equal with the output of the golden method (i.e. NCBI BLAST) and the performance of our model outperformed the most popular distributed form of BLAST (i.e. mpiBLAST) with 25% higher performance. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignancy showing rising prevalence and mortality rates despite scientific progress. Studies indicate that Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) may be involved in the increased mortality among HCC patients. Therefore, the objective of our study was to identify and analyze EMT-related genes in HCC using publicly available datasets and bioinformatics tools. Materials and methods: We obtained a total of 1184 genes known to be linked to EMT in humans from the dbEMT2 database. Two gene expression datasets, GSE36376 and GSE39791 were acquired from the GEO database. Using GEO2R online software, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified based on log fold change and statistical significance. The intersection of up-regulated, down-regulated, and EMT-related genes from dbEMT2 comprised the final list of EMT-associated DEGs. Functional enrichment analysis was conducted using the Enrichr tool. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis was performed using the STRING database, and hub genes were identified using the CytoHubba plugin in Cytoscape. The diagnostic potential of hub genes was assessed at both the mRNA and protein levels using UALCAN software, and survival analysis was conducted to evaluate their prognostic significance. Results: The analysis revealed 13 up-regulated and 13 down-regulated EMT-associated DEGs in HCC samples. Functional enrichment analysis indicated their involvement in key biological processes, molecular functions, cellular components, and critical pathways such as the Pentose Phosphate Pathway. PPI analysis identified four hub genes consistently recognized by degree, closeness, and betweenness centralities: BIRC5, CCNA2, AURKA, and EZH2. These hub genes demonstrated significant diagnostic potential, with higher expression levels in HCC patients compared to healthy individuals at the mRNA level. This paper proposes a family of hyperelliptic curves of genus two for public-key cryptographic primitives. Being subfield curves, the members of this family are easy to generate. Although slightly slower than elliptic curves at the same security level, hyperelliptic curves of our family exhibit performance comparable to widely used hyperelliptic curves over prime fields. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
