Periodic phase diagrams in micromagnetics with an eigenvalue solver

This work introduces an approach to compute periodic phase diagram of micromagnetic systems by solving a periodic linearized Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation using an eigenvalue solver with the Finite Element Method formalism. The linear operator in the eigenvalue problem is defined as a function of the periodic phase-shift wave vector. The dispersion diagrams are obtained by solving the eigenvalue problem for complex eigenfrequencies and corresponding eigenstates for a range of prescribed wave vectors. The presented approach incorporates a calculation of the periodic effective field, including the exchange and magnetostatic field components. The approach is general in that it allows 3D problems to be handled with any 1D, 2D, and 3D periodicities. The ability to calculate periodic diagrams provides insights into the spin wave propagation and localized resonances in complex micromagnetic structures. © 1965-2012 IEEE.

Infertile patients may be a high-risk group of mental disorder. The precise identification of the mental status of infertile patients can provide decision support to healthcare professionals and may be helpful in providing preventive measures accordingly. Rare studies focused on the mental status identification using artificial intelligence (AI) models for infertile people. This study aimed to precisely identify the mental status (anxiety and depression) of infertile patients using three AI models, the XGBoost, decision tree, and stacking models. The dataset, retrieved from a structured questionnaire survey in 2011, which included 400 infertility outpatients seeking reproductive treatments at three teaching hospitals in Taiwan was adopted for training and testing AI models. Aforementioned AI models were designed and reached identification performances of accuracy, precision, recall and area under ROC curve (AUC) equaling 0.75–0.82, 0.70–0.80, 0.64–0.72, and 0.64–0.72, respectively. The XGBoost model (accuracy = 0.82, precision = 0.80, recall = 0.72, and AUC = 0.72) outperformed or equaled the decision tree and stacking models in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and AUC values. Designed AI models for mental status identification can be integrated into the clinical decision support system (CDSS) to provide the anxiety and depression group automatically. Accordingly, the worsening of infertility-related anxiety and depression can be prevented. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Distinct selectivity to the spin angular momenta of photons has garnered significant attention in recent years, for its relevance in basic science and for imaging and sensing applications. While nonlocal metasurfaces with strong chiral responses to the incident light have been reported, these responses are typically limited to a narrow range of incident angles. In this study, we demonstrate a nonlocal metasurface that showcases strong chirality, characterized by circular dichroism (∼0.6), over a wide range of incident angles ±5°. Its quality factor, circular dichroism and resonant frequency can be optimized by design. These findings pave the way to further advance the development of valley-selective optical cavities and augmented reality applications.

This research explores the use of Fuzzy K-Nearest Neighbor(F-KNN)and Artificial Neural Networks(ANN)for predicting heart stroke incidents,focusing on the impact of feature selection methods,specifically Chi-Square and Best First Search(BFS).The study demonstrates that BFS significantly enhances the performance of both *** BFS preprocessing,the ANN model achieved an impressive accuracy of 97.5%,precision and recall of 97.5%,and an Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)area of 97.9%,outperforming the Chi-Square-based ANN,which recorded an accuracy of 91.4%.Similarly,the F-KNN model with BFS achieved an accuracy of 96.3%,precision and recall of 96.3%,and a Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)area of 96.2%,surpassing the performance of the Chi-Square F-KNN model,which showed an accuracy of 95%.These results highlight that BFS improves the ability to select the most relevant features,contributing to more reliable and accurate stroke *** findings underscore the importance of using advanced feature selection methods like BFS to enhance the performance of machine learning models in healthcare applications,leading to better stroke risk management and improved patient outcomes.

Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs) provide a dual-purpose solution, functioning as both energy-generating systems and integral building materials. BIPV adoption has been limited due to a lack of color integration, preventing the panels from being used in building designs. However, efforts to incorporate color into the BIPV layers have been made, but they often reduce panel efficiency. BIPV implementation faces several challenges that hinder widespread adoption, such as fire safety concerns and the integration of color aesthetics and light-emitting diode technology. This article explores these challenges and recent advancements that enhance the aesthetic versatility and efficiency of BIPV systems, including the use of quantum dots, Bragg reflectors, and silver-alloyed copper indium gallium selenide cells. The study also highlights critical considerations for optimizing BIPV systems, such as energy performance and fire safety. PVsyst 7.2 simulation results for a 10 kW BIPV system installed in South Korea demonstrate effective strategies for mitigating efficiency losses through investigating the orientation of angles. Results showcase a high-performance ratio of 0.891, a high production of 14 147 kWh year−1 at a tilt angle of 30° while facing south, and a peak energy of almost 1450 kWh injected into the grid under varying conditions. © 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

EEG and fMRI are complementary, noninvasive technologies for investigating human brain function. These modalities have been used to uncover large-scale functional networks and their disruptions in clinical populations. Given the high temporal resolution of EEG and high spatial resolution of fMRI, integrating these modalities can provide a more holistic understanding of brain activity. This work explores a multimodal source decomposition technique for extracting shared modes of temporal variation between fMRI BOLD signals and EEG spectral power fluctuations in the resting state. The resulting components are then compared between patients with focal epilepsy and controls, revealing multimodal network differences between groups.

Stemming, an essential procedure in natural language processing (NLP), diminishes words to their base forms, facilitating tasks such as information retrieval and sentiment analysis. Although stemming techniques for highresource languages are well-developed, numerous low-resource languages, including dialect of Tulang Bawang, suffer from inadequate solutions owing to a scarcity of linguistic data and resources. Existing systems, including rule-based stemmers, have demonstrated efficacy in processing low-resource languages such as Indonesian and Javanese by utilizing established morphological rules. Nonetheless, these methods encounter considerable obstacles, such as restricted adaptability, inability to accommodate unusual root structures, and excessive dependence on fixed rules that might result in over- or understemming. Rule-based methodologies frequently misidentify roots when faced with intricate affixes or unconventional word forms. We introduce an improved rule-based Tulang Bawang Stemmer aimed at overcoming these constraints by enhancing current linguistic rules and integrating new patterns specific to the language's morphology. Assessed on 500 test samples and 200 independent test samples, our improved stemmer attained gold standard evaluation metrics of 96.2% and 94%, respectively, surpassing prior implementations in both precision and generalization. The findings demonstrate the potential of enhanced rule-based techniques to improving NLP for lowresource languages. Improved stemming performance enables better downstream applications, promotes more efficient text analysis, and advances research in underrepresented languages.

Battling the Non-stationarity in Time Series Forecasting via Test-time Adaptation

Deep Neural Networks have spearheaded remarkable advancements in time series forecasting (TSF), one of the major tasks in time series modeling. Nonetheless, the non-stationarity of time series undermines the reliability of pre-trained source time series forecasters in mission-critical deployment settings. In this study, we introduce a pioneering test-time adaptation framework tailored for TSF (TSF-TTA). TAFAS, the proposed approach to TSF-TTA, flexibly adapts source forecasters to continuously shifting test distributions while preserving the core semantic information learned during pre-training. The novel utilization of partially-observed ground truth and gated calibration module enables proactive, robust, and model-agnostic adaptation of source forecasters. Experiments on diverse benchmark datasets and cutting-edge architectures demonstrate the efficacy and generality of TAFAS, especially in long-term forecasting scenarios that suffer from significant distribution shifts. This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of an RC polyphase filter (RCPF) and circuitry for measuring its frequency characteristics. The integrated circuit is fabricated on a 0.6 µm CMOS process and its supply voltage is 5 V. The integrated circuit includes a filter under test (FUT), a four-phase square wave generator, several analog switches and differential amplifiers to amplify the high-impedance signals of the RCPF. This FUT is a third-order complex RCPF whose passband is 8 − 40 MHz. This paper describes the design of these circuits in detail. This integrated circuit can select two measurement methods by means of external control signals. The first method uses a four-phase square wave. The frequency characteristics are measured by using an on-chip four-phase square wave generator driven by an external clock generator and by a spectrum analyzer tuned to the fundamental frequency. The second method uses an external network analyzer. Furthermore, this integrated circuit is equipped with a calibration circuit to measure the frequency characteristics of the circuitry except FUT by passing through the input / output signals of the FUT. As a result, the frequency characteristics of the FUT itself can be accurately measured. The effectiveness is confirmed through evaluation of the fabricated integrated circuit. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
