Sags and swells are types of power quality disturbances that involve fluctuations in voltage. Sags are decreases in a voltage's magnitude while swells are increases in a voltage's magnitude. There are a number of different techniques to identify and classify these power quality disturbances, however in an industrial setting power utilities typically employ the use of the CBEMA and ITIC curves to classify the power quality disturbances they encounter. The CBEMA and ITIC curves utilize RMS voltage to denote whether a disturbance is expected to impact the system it occurs on, however there are a number of ambiguities surrounding the use of both curves. One such ambiguity is the lack of specification surrounding the window size used to calculate RMS values. This paper proposes MATLAB scripts that can synthesize waveforms with sags and swells according to a variety of user-defined parameters and provide their RMS voltages. This paper also presents a MATLAB function that can plot the RMS voltage magnitude and durations of transient events onto the ITIC curve. This paper explores the effect of varying the window size used to calculate RMS voltage for each disturbance across different parameters. Moreover, the paper presents an analysis of the RMS voltage of a real-world voltage sag in a three-phase system. © 2024 IEEE.

In this work, a 3-D numerical method is employed to predict the noise propagation within the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). UDC is located within an urban environment in Washington, DC. Sound pressure level measurements of various noise sources including traffic noise are obtained. Of particular interest is the method’s ability to accurately simulate the urban space. Accuracy is evaluated comparatively between simulated and measured results of acoustic parameters in the mid-to-high-frequency regimes. Specifically, reverberation time, energy decay time, and sound pressure level. The results and limitations of the particle-tracing method for predicting sound propagation in urban environments are discussed.

Medical information System provides the best way to collect patient’s medical information. It helps the doctors to retrieve the patient’s previous medical history very faster and able to provide suitable treatment quickly. To keep medical information of a patient securely is a difficult task. Many MQTT algorithms have been developed to provide security for the patients information. The sensitive medical information of a patient can also be protected by using biometric technology. Internet of Thing (IoT) technology used to send the medical information to the doctor like blood group, BP value, cholesterol level and heart rate level. The proposed system helps to provide the comorbidity details of the Covid-19 infected patient’s to doctors mobile phone. It also takes the current health details of the patients like temperature, respiratory rate and heart beat rate. By considering the past and present medical data of the Covid-19 patients , this system recommends the type of treatment to be given for Covid-19 infected patients.

To understand Women in Science and engineering freshman student’s information literacy skills, the authors surveyed seventy-five students with a pre- and posttest in a one-shot library session. The pretest received sixty-seven responses while the posttest received fifty-two responses. Although our survey tests did not show a significant difference in knowledge learned, they provided valuable insight into how much information students could obtain from a one-shot library session. Not surprisingly, a few students indicated that they preferred more library sessions to just one. Calibration is an important process in traffic microsimulation modelling since it enables to represent reality more accurately. In this research we present a general methodology for the calibration process and develop a calibration software for Transmodcler traffic microsimulation. This software follows this methodology and has specific methods for its main steps. We propose an experiment design model to select parameters. In addition we used two genetic algorithms to search the optimal values for the parameters. Besides, this software presents an innovative module to explore and visualize the output of the calibration process. In this paper we present the general design of the software which we tested, alongside our methodology, in a case of study in the city of Pereira, Colombia. The results show that it can find optimal values for the parameters and give the user a global view of the process. It indicates that this software has the capability to calibrate traffic microsimulation models.

Space biology research aims to understand fundamental effects of spaceflight on organisms, develop foundational knowledge to support deep space exploration, and ultimately bioengineer spacecraft and habitats to stabilize the ecosystem of plants, crops, microbes, animals, and humans for sustained multi-planetary life. To advance these aims, the field leverages experiments, platforms, data, and model organisms from both spaceborne and ground-analog studies. As research is extended beyond low Earth orbit, experiments and platforms must be maximally autonomous, light, agile, and intelligent to expedite knowledge discovery. Here we present a summary of recommendations from a workshop organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and modeling applications which offer key solutions toward these space biology challenges. In the next decade, the synthesis of artificial intelligence into the field of space biology will deepen the biological understanding of spaceflight effects, facilitate predictive modeling and analytics, support maximally autonomous and reproducible experiments, and efficiently manage spaceborne data and metadata, all with the goal to enable life to thrive in deep space. © 2021, CC BY.

Human space exploration beyond low Earth orbit will involve missions of significant distance and duration. To effectively mitigate myriad space health hazards, paradigm shifts in data and space health systems are necessary to enable Earth-independence, rather than Earth-reliance. Promising developments in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning for biology and health can address these needs. We propose an appropriately autonomous and intelligent Precision Space Health system that will monitor, aggregate, and assess biomedical statuses;analyze and predict personalized adverse health outcomes;adapt and respond to newly accumulated data;and provide preventive, actionable, and timely insights to individual deep space crew members and iterative decision support to their crew medical officer. Here we present a summary of recommendations from a workshop organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, on future applications of artificial intelligence in space biology and health. In the next decade, biomonitoring technology, biomarker science, spacecraft hardware, intelligent software, and streamlined data management must mature and be woven together into a Precision Space Health system to enable humanity to thrive in deep space. © 2021, CC BY.

There has been a growing interest in Health Informatics applications, research, and education within the Middle East and North African Region over the past twenty years. People of this region share similar cultural and religious values, primarily speak the Arabic language, and have similar health care related issues, which are in dire need of being addressed. Health Informatics efforts, organizations, and initiatives within the region have been largely under-represented within, but not ignored by, the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). Attempts to create bonds and collaboration between the different organizations of the region have remained scattered, and often, resulted in failure despite the fact that the need for a united health informatics collaborative within the region has never been more crucial than today. During the 2017 MEDINFO, held in Hangzhou, China, a new organization, the Middle East and North African Health Informatics Association (MENAHIA) was conceived as a regional non-governmental organization to promote and facilitate health informatics uptake within the region endorsing health informatics research and educational initiatives of the 22 countries represented within the region. This paper provides an overview of the collaboration and efforts to date in forming MENAHIA and displays the variety of initiatives that are already occurring within the MENAHIA region, which MENAHIA will help, endorse, support, share, and improve within the international forum of health informatics.
