In this study, a robust Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller was developed and evaluated for the Bebop 2 quadrotor drone. Polytopic uncertainties in the dynamic model were taken into account in the control design, ensuring robustness. The drone's localization was achieved using fiducial markers and a Kalman Filter for state estimation, integrating visual and positional data. The controller design utilized Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) to optimize performance while accounting for system constraints. A circular trajectory in three-dimensional space was employed to assess the controller's effectiveness in simulation. Results demonstrated precise trajectory tracking, stability, and robust performance despite parameter uncertainties. These findings highlight the applicability of the proposed framework for real-world scenarios involving underactuated UAVs.

This paper introduces an alternative technique for diagnosing Acute Ischemic Stroke within the IoMT environment. In the proposed approach, the collected data is transmitted to a cloud-based center where the technique utilizes EfficientNet, a deep learning model, designed to extract features from MRI images thereby enhancing the detection of acute ischemic infarctions. The performance of EfficientNet is compared against two other models, CNN and MobileNet, demonstrating its superior efficacy through metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, which stand at 92.31%, 92.28%, 92.33%, and 92.30%, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are commonly used in data-driven approaches to estimate the Remaining Useful Lifetime (RUL) of power electronic devices. RNNs are preferred because their intrinsic feedback mechanisms are better suited to model time-series data. However, the impact of RNN complexity on estimation accuracy is rarely discussed in the literature. This issue is important because choosing a lower-complexity model that delivers the same or similar performance as a higher-complexity model can increase implementation efficiency. In the paper, we use three RNN models, namely, the vanilla version, LSTM (Long Short Term Memory) and GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) to conduct RUL estimation for power electronic devices. We use two accelerated aging datasets, one dataset targeting the package failure of MOSFETs, and the other dataset targeting package failure of power diodes. Our study shows that a lower-complexity RNN does not necessarily deliver a lower performance. Similarly, a higher-complexity model does not assure a higher performance. As such, our work highlights the importance of selecting a proper neural network for RUL estimation not biased towards complex models. This is especially useful and important for implementing such RUL estimation techniques in embedded resource-constrained and speed-limited computins platforms.

In this study, we explore the classification and prediction capabilities of three models-Genetic program.ing (GP), Logistic Regression (LR), and the Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN)-on the task of sodium-ion battery life prediction. By leveraging a dataset composed of multiple battery characteristics, we aim to determine the remaining power of sodium-ion batteries using these machine learning models. The KAN model, being a novel approach, demonstrates superior performance across various metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, when compared to the other two models. This highlights the potential of KAN as a robust model for complex classification tasks in the field of battery life prediction. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Diabetes mellitus is a dangerous global epidemic that can cause kidney failure, heart attack, blindness, and death. The main cause of this disease is too high blood sugar levels due to the irrelevant work of pancreatic beta cells. Rapid computer technology advances and implementations based on artificial intelligence have penetrated various fields, especially the health sector. Data mining and machine learning are technologies that continue to grow, are reliable, and can be used as research support tools in the medical field. This technology is considered capable of helping to automate diabetes prediction. Based on related research, our contribution to this research is to utilize the CatBoost method with Optuna optimization. In the data preprocessing stage, all 768 data sets have gone through removing outliers, normalizing features to reducing dimensions. The dataset is divided into 85\% composition for training data and 15\% for test data. At the feature selection stage with Correlation Pearson's, we found that Glucose correlated with diabetes outcome or disease because it had a value range of 0.47. The results' accuracy is considered less than optimal because it only produces an accuracy value below 80%, even after optimization with Optuna. It can be seen that there was only an increase of 7\% after optimizing with Optuna. © 2023 IEEE.

CsPbI3 has been recognized as a promising candidate for optoelectronic device applications. To further improve the efficiency of the devices, it is imperative to better understand the surface properties of CsPbI3, which affect charge carrier transport and defect formation properties. In this study, we perform density functional theory calculations to explore the stability of the (001), (110), and (100) surfaces of orthorhombic CsPbI3, considering different stoichiometries and surface reconstructions. Our results show that, under the chemical potentials confined by the thermodynamically stable region of bulk CsPbI3, the CsI-terminated surfaces of (001) and (110) and the stoichiometric surface of (100) are stable. Among these three surfaces, the CsI-terminated (110) surface has the lowest surface energy and no mid-gap states, which benefits the transport properties of the material. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

In our study, we explore methods for detecting unwanted content lurking in visual datasets. We provide a theoretical analysis demonstrating that a model capable of successfully partitioning visual data can be obtained using only textual data. Based on the analysis, we propose Hassle-Free Textual Training (HFTT), a streamlined method capable of acquiring detectors for unwanted visual content, using only synthetic textual data in conjunction with pre-trained vision-language models. HFTT features an innovative objective function that significantly reduces the necessity for human involvement in data annotation. Furthermore, HFTT employs a clever textual data synthesis method, effectively emulating the integration of unknown visual data distribution into the training process at no extra cost. The unique characteristics of HFTT extend its utility beyond traditional out-of-distribution detection, making it applicable to tasks that address more abstract concepts. We complement our analyses with experiments in out-of-distribution detection and hateful image detection. Our codes are available at https://***/Saehyung-Lee/HFTT

Graph-based data present unique challenges and opportunities for machine learning. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), and especially those algorithms that capture graph topology through message passing for neighborhood aggregation, have been a leading solution. However, these networks often require substantial computational resources and may not optimally leverage the information contained in the graph's topology, particularly for large-scale or complex *** propose Topology Coordinate Neural Network (TCNN) and Directional Virtual Coordinate Neural Network (DVCNN) as novel and efficient alternatives to message passing GNNs, that directly leverage the graph's topology, sidestepping the computational challenges presented by competing algorithms. Our proposed methods can be viewed as a reprise of classic techniques for graph embedding for neural network feature engineering, but they are novel in that our embedding techniques leverage ideas in Graph Coordinates (GC) that are lacking in current *** results, benchmarked against the Open Graph Benchmark Leaderboard, demonstrate that TCNN and DVCNN achieve competitive or superior performance to message passing GNNs. For similar levels of accuracy and ROC-AUC, TCNN and DVCNN need far fewer trainable parameters than contenders of the OGBN Leaderboard. The proposed TCNN architecture requires fewer parameters than any neural network method currently listed in the OGBN Leaderboard for both OGBN-Proteins and OGBN-Products datasets. Conversely, our methods achieve higher performance for a similar number of trainable parameters. These results hold across diverse datasets and edge features, underscoring the robustness and generalizability of our methods. By providing an efficient and effective alternative to message passing GNNs, our work expands the toolbox of techniques for graph-based machine learning. Partial discharge (PD) is a widespread phenomenon instigated in power transformer (PT) insulation systems. PDs are triggered by voids that vary in size and position within the PT insulation. The electrical characteristics of those damaging, PD-causing cavities must be well understood, to accelerate the development of advanced PD detection techniques. Thus, the impact of varying the radius and position of spherical air voids on the characteristics of PDs in PTs is examined using a 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) model designed in COMSOL Multiphysics. The spherical voids are positioned between two windings of a 512 kV, three-phase (3φ ) PT. The peak electric field (EF) and aggregate energy in the FEA model are used in conjunction with laboratory measurements of the apparent discharge magnitude, for detailed analysis of Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PET-G)-based cylindrical voids with different heights. Simulations demonstrate that the inception of PD activity in the PT model occurs for spherical voids with a radius exceeding 1 mm. Furthermore, the most severe PDs occur within the press-board insulation, adjacent to the uppermost part of the innermost windings. Experiments demonstrate that a significant increase in PD activity was observed for PET-G-based cylindrical voids with heights exceeding 1 mm. © 2022 IEEE.
