CAEME Director Electrical Engineering Department University of Utah Salt Lake City Utah 84112 Dr. Iskander edited two special issues of theJournal of Microwave Power one on “Electromagnetics and Energy Applications” March 1983 and the other on “Electromagnetic Techniques in Medical Diagnosis and Imaging” September 1983. He authored one book onElectromagnetic Fields and Waves published by Prentice Hall in 1992 he edited theCAEME Software Book Vol. I 1991 and he coedited a third book onMicrowave Processing of Materials published by the Materials Research Society in 1991. The holder of seven patents he has contributed 16 chapters to eight research books published more than 90 papers in technical journals and made numerous presentations in technical conferences. In 1983 he received the College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award and the College Patent Award for creative innovative and practical invention. In 1984 he was selected by the Utah Section of the IEEE as Engineer of the Year. In 1984 he received the Outstanding Paper Award from the International Microwave Power Institute and in 1985 he received the Curtis W. McGraw ASEE National Research Award for outstanding early achievements by a university faculty member. In 1991 he received the ASEE George Westinghouse National Award for innovation in engineering education. In 1986 Dr. Iskander established the Engineering Clinic Program in the College of Engineering at the University of Utah. Since then the program has attracted more than 45 research projects from 18 companies throughout the United States. He is also the director of the NSF/IEEE Center for Computer Applications in Electromagnetics Education (CAEME). He co-organized symposia on “Microwave Processing of Materials” held in conjunction with Materials Research Society meetings in the Springs of 1990 and 1992 in San Francisco. During his 10 years at NSWC he has been a leader in the development and analysis of systems for the measurement and reduction of static magnetic signatures of mine counter measures vessels and steel hull ships. He currently holds the position of lead scientist of the Engineering Group for the joint U.S.-France Closed-Loop Degaussing Program. His responsibilities have included theory and modeling of static-magnetic fields closed-loop degaussing systems development and implementation scale and full-scale experimentation and the development of fleet magnetic signature measurement facilities. He holds a BSEE degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and has published several papers on various topics in magnetic silencing and closed-loop degaussing systems. John J. Holmes:is a principal electrical engineer in the Protection Systems Department of the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Dr. Holmes has been with NSWC for 14 years. During this time he has participated in and technically directed the development of several submarine and surface ship magnetic and electric silencing systems in the ULF (0 to 3 hz) and ELF (3 hz to 3 khz) band. His responsibilities have included threat and vulnerability studies theory and modeling of electromagnetic fields countermeasure systems development scale and full-scale experimentation and data analysis and the development of standards for countermeasure system performance testing and evaluation. He has published over fifty papers on various topics in magnetic silencing and electromagnetic theory. In addition he has participated in several international electromagnetic silencing R&D programs and is a member of the NATO Mine Warfare Working Party. Milton H. Ostendorf is an associate professor in the Environmental Engineering Program of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts (Civil Engineering Department University of Massachusetts Amherst MA 01003). His research interests include unconfined aquifer contamination hazardous waste site remediation and analytical modeling of problems in environmental fluid mechanics. Dr. Ostendorf is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and a member of the American Geophysical Union American Society of Civil Engineers Soil Science Society of America Water Pollution Control Federation and Association of Environmental Engineering Professors as well as the National Water Well Association.2 Lowell E. Leach is an environmental engineer with the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Laboratory of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (RS Kerr Environmental Research Laboratory U.S. EPA P.O. Box 1198 Ada OK74820). Leach received his B.S. ingeological engineering at the University of Oklahoma in 1959 and has been a registered professional engineer in Oklahoma since 1966. With 29 years of experience in field applications of geological engineering he is responsible for developing methodology for sampling ground water and subsurface materials for the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Laboratory.3 Erich S. Hinlein is a research assistant in the Environmental Engineering Program of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts (Civil Engineering Department University of Massachusetts Amherst MA 01003).
