Scientific evidence sustains PM_(2.5)particles’inhalation may generate harmful impacts on human beings’health;therefore,theirmonitoring in ambient air is of paramount relevance in terms of public *** to the limited number of fixed stations within the air qualitymonitoring networks,development ofmethodological frameworks tomodel ambient air PM_(2.5)particles is primordial to providing additional information on PM_(2.5)exposure and its *** this sense,this work aims to offer a global easily-applicable tool to estimate ambient air PM_(2.5)as a function of meteorological conditions using a multivariate *** PM_(2.5)data measured by 84 fixed monitoring stations and meteorological data from ERA5(ECMWF Reanalysis v5)reanalysis daily based data between 2000 and 2021 across the United Kingdom were attended to develop the suggested *** from January 2017 to December 2020 were employed to build amathematical expression that related the dependent variable(PM_(2.5))to predictor ones(sea-level pressure,planetary boundary layer height,temperature,precipitation,wind direction and speed),while 2021 data tested the *** indicators evidenced a good performance of model(maximum values of RMSE,MAE and MAPE:1.80μg/m^(3),3.24μg/m^(3),and 20.63%,respectively),compiling the current legislation’s requirements for modelling ambient air PM_(2.5)concentrations.A retrospective analysis of meteorological features allowed estimating ambient air PM_(2.5)concentrations from 2000 to *** highest PM_(2.5)concentrations relapsed in theMid-and Southlands,while Northlands sustained the lowest concentrations.

While LiDAR data acquisition is easy, labeling for semantic segmentation remains highly time consuming and must therefore be done selectively. Active learning (AL) provides a solution that can iteratively and intelligently label a dataset while retaining high performance and a low budget. In this work we explore AL for LiDAR semantic segmentation. As a human expert is a component of the pipeline, a practical framework must consider common labeling techniques such as sequential labeling that drastically improve annotation times. We therefore propose a discwise approach (DiAL), where in each iteration, we query the region a single frame covers on global coordinates, labeling all frames simultaneously. We then tackle the two major challenges that emerge with discwise AL. Firstly, we devise a new acquisition function that takes 3D point density changes into consideration which arise due to location changes or ego-vehicle motion. Next, we solve a mixed-integer linear program that provides a general solution to the selection of multiple frames while taking into consideration the possibilities of disc intersections. Finally we propose a semi-supervised learning approach to utilize all frames within our dataset and improve performance. © 2016 IEEE.

This article presents a study on the effectiveness of electrocoagulation (EC) for the removal of azo dyes from wastewater. The analysis was performed using a combination of statistical methods, including density estimation, correlation analysis, and deep learning for electrocoagulation performance prediction. The results showed that electrocoagulation was able to effectively remove azo dyes from the wastewater, considering the energy consumption and the mass of flocs being important factors in the process. Deep Learning (DL) is used to build our predictive model using the datasets collected during the experimentation stage. Overall, the findings suggest that electrocoagulation is a promising technique for the treatment of wastewater containing azo dyes, and that the use of statistical and machine learning methods can aid in the optimization of the process. © 2024 The Authors. Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes. In recent years, with the restructuring and privatization of power networks, special attention has been paid to the role of customers in network operation. Therefore, demand response programs have played an important role in power network studies and many researchers have been working in this area. Microgrids are a collection of loads and generating units that can supply their own power independently. In this article, the problem of demand response of loads in a microgrid has been studied. For this purpose, the customers in a microgrid announce their proposed prices for participating in the demand response program to the network operator for different hours of the day. This demand response program will be executed when the network operation constraints are violated. Therefore, there is no need to run it in the hours when the network is operating properly. The network operator will run the demand response program with the aim of removing the constraints imposed on the network. For this purpose, the imperialist competitive algorithm (lCA) has been used to find the best possible solution. After running the proposed method, it will be determined how much power each load should reduce in each hour. The proposed method has been implemented on a sample network and its results have been evaluated and analyzed for different scenarios. The problem modeling has been done using MATlab software. The results proved the effectiveness of the proposed model.

The rise of decentralized identity systems has posed significant challenges in the secure and scalable management of keys, especially in large-scale national identity programs. In this paper, we propose a new secure and scalable framework for cryptographic keys management that may be applied in a national digital identity system. The proposed framework provides a hierarchical structure for efficient key generation and isolation, while hardware security modules provide a secure environment for key storage and operations. Key wrapping is implemented to enable secure external storage of large volumes of keys. In our work, we present a comprehensive security analysis. Our analysis demonstrates the resilience of the framework against various threat vectors and its ability to address key management challenges such as complexity, scalability, security isolation, recovery and secure delegation. The proposed framework provides a promising solution for security and scalability of national-level identity systems.

With the exponential growth of data, the demand for effective data analysis tools has increased significantly. R language, known for its statistical modeling and data analysis capabilities, has become one of the most popular programming languages among data scientists and researchers. As the importance of energy-aware software systems continues to rise, several studies investigate the impact of source code and different stages of machine learning model training on energy consumption. However, existing studies in this domain primarily focus on programming languages like Python and Java, resulting in a lack of energy measuring tools for other programming languages such as R. To address this gap, we propose "RJoules", a tool designed to measure the energy consumption of R code snippets. We evaluate the correctness and performance of RJoules by applying it to four machine learning algorithms on three different systems. Our aim is to support developers and practitioners in building energy-aware systems in R. Compared to traditional biometric systems, in-air signatures are considered more robust and secure than classical pen paper. A few datasets capturing in-air signatures have been introduced, utilizing various devices such as the Leap Motion and the Microsoft Kinect sensor camera. However, these devices are not exempt from shortcomings and exhibit certain limitations. The expenses associated with their implementation and the requirement for technical proficiency in operating them present notable challenges for in-air signature analysis. Additionally, users may encounter difficulties in adapting their finger movements to fit within the device's limited field of view, particularly if they lack familiarity with these devices. To address these concerns, this paper proposes the creation of three in-air signature datasets using solely the camera of a laptop or a smartphone, eliminating the need for any additional specialized equipment. Our datasets were collected in three ways. The first is the In-Air Signature dataset (IAS dataset) and the second is the In-Air Signature dataset using a transparent Glass Plate (IASGP dataset) while the third is the In-Air Signature dataset using Smart Phone (IASSP dataset). Forty volunteers participated in the construction of these datasets. Their ages ranged from 21 to 40 years. Each volunteer signs in the air five signatures and imitates five signatures of five other volunteers. Our in-air signatures datasets are publicly available and can be used for various research tasks like in-air signature verification and identification. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates the influence of a static robot head on deviations of human hand movements from task direction (motor interference) during simultaneous human and robot arm movements using a collaborative robot arm. Synchronous vertical and horizontal human and robot arm movements are conducted in all combinations (within-subjects factors direction and congruency). The presence of the head (head/ no head) is varied as a between-subjects factor. In this first step, only its motionless presence is deliberately focused at, in order to exclude contributions by eye- or head-movement behavior or facial expressions being difficult variables to generalize from. Participants' hands are tracked optically marker-based and deviations from task-related vertical, respectively, horizontal movements are evaluated. In contrast to expectations, results do not show a significant impact of the robot head on motor interference. Thus, there is evidence, that appearance might not be an activating factor for motor interference in HRI.
