The rise of decentralized identity systems has posed significant challenges in the secure and scalable management of keys, especially in large-scale national identity programs. In this paper, we propose a new secure and scalable framework for cryptographic keys management that may be applied in a national digital identity system. The proposed framework provides a hierarchical structure for efficient key generation and isolation, while hardware security modules provide a secure environment for key storage and operations. Key wrapping is implemented to enable secure external storage of large volumes of keys. In our work, we present a comprehensive security analysis. Our analysis demonstrates the resilience of the framework against various threat vectors and its ability to address key management challenges such as complexity, scalability, security isolation, recovery and secure delegation. The proposed framework provides a promising solution for security and scalability of national-level identity systems.

With the exponential growth of data, the demand for effective data analysis tools has increased significantly. R language, known for its statistical modeling and data analysis capabilities, has become one of the most popular programming languages among data scientists and researchers. As the importance of energy-aware software systems continues to rise, several studies investigate the impact of source code and different stages of machine learning model training on energy consumption. However, existing studies in this domain primarily focus on programming languages like Python and Java, resulting in a lack of energy measuring tools for other programming languages such as R. To address this gap, we propose "RJoules", a tool designed to measure the energy consumption of R code snippets. We evaluate the correctness and performance of RJoules by applying it to four machine learning algorithms on three different systems. Our aim is to support developers and practitioners in building energy-aware systems in R. Compared to traditional biometric systems, in-air signatures are considered more robust and secure than classical pen paper. A few datasets capturing in-air signatures have been introduced, utilizing various devices such as the Leap Motion and the Microsoft Kinect sensor camera. However, these devices are not exempt from shortcomings and exhibit certain limitations. The expenses associated with their implementation and the requirement for technical proficiency in operating them present notable challenges for in-air signature analysis. Additionally, users may encounter difficulties in adapting their finger movements to fit within the device's limited field of view, particularly if they lack familiarity with these devices. To address these concerns, this paper proposes the creation of three in-air signature datasets using solely the camera of a laptop or a smartphone, eliminating the need for any additional specialized equipment. Our datasets were collected in three ways. The first is the In-Air Signature dataset (IAS dataset) and the second is the In-Air Signature dataset using a transparent Glass Plate (IASGP dataset) while the third is the In-Air Signature dataset using Smart Phone (IASSP dataset). Forty volunteers participated in the construction of these datasets. Their ages ranged from 21 to 40 years. Each volunteer signs in the air five signatures and imitates five signatures of five other volunteers. Our in-air signatures datasets are publicly available and can be used for various research tasks like in-air signature verification and identification. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates the influence of a static robot head on deviations of human hand movements from task direction (motor interference) during simultaneous human and robot arm movements using a collaborative robot arm. Synchronous vertical and horizontal human and robot arm movements are conducted in all combinations (within-subjects factors direction and congruency). The presence of the head (head/ no head) is varied as a between-subjects factor. In this first step, only its motionless presence is deliberately focused at, in order to exclude contributions by eye- or head-movement behavior or facial expressions being difficult variables to generalize from. Participants' hands are tracked optically marker-based and deviations from task-related vertical, respectively, horizontal movements are evaluated. In contrast to expectations, results do not show a significant impact of the robot head on motor interference. Thus, there is evidence, that appearance might not be an activating factor for motor interference in HRI.

Due to the broadcast nature of wireless communications,users’data transmitted wirelessly is susceptible to security/privacy ***,as a result of the limitation of spectrum resources,massive wireless connections will incur serious interference,which may damage the efficiency of data ***,improving both efficiency and secrecy of data transmission is of research *** this paper,we propose a wireless transmission scheme by taking both Secure Communication(SC)and Interference Management(IM)into account,namely *** this scheme,an SCIM signal is generated by the legitimate transmitter(Tx)and sent along with the desired signal,so that the SCIM signal can interact with and suppress the environmental interference at the legitimate receiver(Rx).Meanwhile,the SCIM signal may interfere with the eavesdropper in the coverage of legitimate transmission so as to deteriorate the eavesdropping ***,the secrecy of desired transmission is *** this way,both the transmission efficiency and privacy are ***,by taking various transmission preferences into account,we develop different implementations of SCIM,including Interference Suppression First SCIM(ISF-SCIM),Data Transmission First SCIM(DTF-SCIM),Anti-Eavesdropping First SCIM(AEF-SCIM),and Secrecy Rate Maximization SCIM(SRM-SCIM).Our in-depth simulation results have shown the proposed methods to effectively improve the efficiency and secrecy of the legitimate transmission.

The developer community has witnessed an unprecedented surge in recent years, with over 100 million active developers on the GitHub platform in 2023. Along with it, there is a significant rise and adoption of new programming languages, frameworks and tools. The study aims to comprehend how developers perceive these fastgrowing programming languages by performing emotion analysis of developer’s comments posted in various software artifacts such as pull requests, issues and commits of GitHub repositories. In this regard, we employed a fine-tuned small ‘Large Language Model’ (sLLM) to detect emotions, leveraging a balanced dataset from existing literature complemented with additional manual annotations from our collected data. We have analyzed 10 fast-growing programming languages, examining 1.8 million comments from 4.1 million non-code artifacts. To further validate our findings, we have performed a qualitative survey and analysis with 28 developers. Our study reveals insights into the developers emotion associated with these fast-growing languages. Notably, “Surprise’’ is the predominant emotion associated with these languages. Code Review Automation Via Multi-task Federated LLM - An Empirical Study

Code review is a crucial process before deploying code to production, as it validates the code, provides suggestions for improvements, and identifies errors such as missed edge cases. In projects with regular production releases, the effort required for peer code-reviews remains high. Consequently, there has been significant interest from software engineering (SE) researchers in automating the code review process. Previous research on code review automation has typically approached the task as three independent sub-tasks: review necessity prediction, review comment generation, and code refinement. Our study attempts to (i) leverage the relationships between the sub-tasks of code review automation, by developing a multi-task model that addresses all tasks in an integrated manner, and (ii) increase model robustness on unseen data via collaborative large language model (LLM) modeling, while retaining the proprietary nature of code, by using federated learning (FL). The study explores five simple techniques for multi-task training, including two sequential methods, one parallel method, and two cumulative methods. The results indicate that sequentially training a federated LLM (FedLLM) for our code review multi-task use case is less efficient in terms of time, computation, and performance metrics, compared to training separate models for each task. Because sequential training demonstrates catastrophic forgetting, alternatively cumulative fine-tuning for multi-task training performs better than training models for individual tasks. This study highlights the need for research focused on effective fine-tuning of multi-task FedLLMs for SE tasks. © 2024, CC BY.

Concerns about food safety have grown across society in recent years. Building a trustworthy traceability system is essential for effectively identifying and preventing food safety issues as well as tracing the responsible parties. The entire food supply chain, which includes the stages of production, processing, warehousing, transportation, and sale, must be precisely recorded, shared, and traced. Traditional traceability systems suffer from problems like data invisibility, tampering, and the leakage of sensitive information. This paper proposes an open platform for a food safety traceability system that indefinitely and incessantly stores and records all transactions, events, and activities on the blockchain's immutable ledger linked with IPFS - a peer-to-peer decentralised file system - for storing and providing maximum transparency and traceability. The platform leverages the blockchain's characteristics such as immutability, transparency, smart contracts, and consensus algorithms to make it ideal for food safety traceability systems. But more importantly, it mirrors the food supply chain making it a pluggable toolbox for all stakeholders across the food chain to adapt to their system irrespective of the food products they deal with since it is a multi-asset system as well. It could be even adapted for non-food products that have a supply chain similar to the typical food supply chain. Simulation results show that there is the complete success of all the blockchain transactions on our platform with real-time responsiveness. © 2022 IEEE.

Recent work of the one-dimensional q-LMS algorithm give insight that the Quantum Calculus based gradient called the q-gradient is capable of improving the convergence behavior in contrast to the standard LMS algorithm. The reason for this is the fact that the q-derivative takes larger steps in minimizing a cost function as it evaluates the secant in contrast to the tangent of the cost function. Motivated by this, we propose a two-dimensional version of the q-LMS algorithm. More precisely, we employ Quantum Calculus based q-gradient in steepest descent optimization of mean-square-error (MSE) cost function in 2D adaptive filtering scenario to obtain two-dimensional q-LMS (2D q-LMS) algorithm. A thorough analytical investigation of the proposed 2D q-LMS algorithm in both mean and mean-square sense is provided. Both the transient and steady-state convergence behaviours are examined. Consequently, excess MSE (EMSE) learning curve and its steady-state expression are evaluated in closed form. Simulation results are presented for the application of noise cancelation in images to show the superiority of the proposed 2D q-LMS algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.
