Image-based rice leaf disease detection using CNN and generative adversarial network

Rice is a major crop and staple food for more than half of the world’s population and plays a vital role in ensuring food security as well as the global economy pests and diseases pose a threat to the production of rice and have a substantial impact on the yield and quality of the crop. In recent times, deep learning methods have gained prominence in predicting rice leaf diseases. Despite the increasing use of these methods, there are notable limitations in existing approaches. These include a scarcity of extensive and diverse collections of leaf disease images, lower accuracy rates, higher time complexity, and challenges in real-time leaf disease detection. To address the limitations, we explicitly investigate various data augmentation approaches using different generative adversarial networks (GANs) for rice leaf disease detection. Along with the GAN model, advanced CNN-based classifiers have been applied to classify the images with improving data augmentation. Our approach involves employing various GANs to generate high-quality synthetic images. This strategy aims to tackle the challenges posed by limited and imbalanced datasets in the identification of leaf diseases. The key benefit of incorporating GANs in leaf disease detection lies in their ability to create synthetic images, effectively augmenting the dataset’s size, enhancing diversity, and reducing the risk of overfitting. For dataset augmentation, we used three distinct GAN architectures—namely simple GAN, CycleGAN, and DCGAN. Our experiments demonstrated that models utilizing the GAN-augmented dataset generally outperformed those relying on the non-augmented dataset. Notably, the CycleGAN architecture exhibited the most favorable outcomes, with the MobileNet model achieving an accuracy of 98.54%. Evaluation system of small arms firing has an important effect in the context of military domain. A partially automated evaluation system has been conducted and performed at the ground level. Automation of such system with the inclusion of artificial intelligence is a much required process. This papers puts focus on designing and developing an AI-based small arms firing evaluation systems in the context of military environment. Initially image processing techniques are used to calculate the target firing score. Additionally, firing errors during the shooting have also been detected using a machine learning algorithm. However, consistency in firing requires an abundance of practice and updated analysis of the previous results. Accuracy and precision are the basic requirements of a good shooter. To test the shooting skill of combatants, firing practices are held by the military personnel at frequent intervals that include 'grouping' and 'shoot to hit' scores. Shortage of skilled personnel and lack of personal interest leads to an inefficient evaluation of the firing standard of a firer. This paper introduces a system that will automatically be able to fetch the target data and evaluate the standard based on the fuzzy *** it will be able to predict the shooter performance based on linear regression ***, it compares with recognized patterns to analyze the individual expertise and suggest improvements based on previous values. The paper is developed on a Small Arms Firing Skill Evaluation System, which makes the whole process of firing and target evaluation faster with better accuracy. The experiment has been conducted on real-time scenarios considering the military field and shows a promising result to evaluate the system automatically.

Security to text (S2T): multi-layered based security approaches for secret text content

In the digital world, text data is produced in an unstructured manner across various communication channels. Extracting valuable information from such data with security is crucial and requires the development of techniques in text mining, information retrieval, and natural language processing (NLP). To solve this issue, we introduce two novel approaches: keyword extraction (KE) and a multi-layered secret sharing scheme (MLSS) to provide security to extracted keywords rather than overall text documents. The KE approach encompasses a sequence of text pre-processing procedures, including tokenization, stopword removal, stemming, and bag of words representation, followed by indexing. This methodology aims to efficiently extract keywords from text datasets. For this research work, we have proposed three datasets, including text messages, whatsapp messages, and electronic mail. MLSS enhances the security of extracted textual data by leveraging text pre-processing steps. This scheme ensures better confidentiality and the non-revealment of sensitive information. Additionally, we evaluate our KE model on our dataset as well as on standard datasets. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed security to text (S2T) model, which outperform existing state-of-the-art approaches. Predicting early ASD traits of adults and toddlers using machine learning and deep learning with explainable AI and optimization

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by challenges in social interaction, communication difficulties, repetitive behaviors, and a range of strengths and differences in cognitive abilities. Early ASD diagnosis using machine learning and deep learning techniques is crucial for preventing its severity and long-term effects. The articles published in this area have only applied different machine learning algorithms, and a notable gap observed is the absence of an in-depth analysis in terms of hyperparameter tuning and the type of dataset used in this context. This study investigated predictive modeling for ASD traits by leveraging two distinct datasets: (i) a raw CSV dataset with tabular data and (ii) an image dataset with facial expression. This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of ASD trait prediction in adults and toddlers by doing hyper optimized and interpreting the result through explainable AI. In the CSV dataset, a comprehensive exploration of machine learning and deep learning algorithms, including decision trees, Naive Bayes, random forests, support vector machines (SVM), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), logistic regression, XGBoost, and ANN, was conducted. XGBoost emerged as the most effective machine learning algorithm, achieving an accuracy of 96.13%. The deep learning ANN model outperformed the traditional machine learning algorithms with an accuracy of 99%. Additionally, an ensemble model combining a decision tree, random forest, SVM, KNN, and logistic regression demonstrated superior performance, yielding an accuracy of 96.67%. The XGBoost model, utilized in hyperparameter optimization for CSV data, exhibited a substantial accuracy increase, reaching 98%. For the image dataset, advanced deep learning models, such as ResNet50, VGG16, Boosting, and Bagging, were employed. The rapid development of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) swarm, a new type of aerial threat target, has brought great pressure to the air defense early warning system. At present, most of the track correlation algorithms only use part of the target location, speed, and other information for *** this paper, the artificial neural network method is used to establish the corresponding intelligent track correlation model and method according to the characteristics of swarm ***, a route correlation method based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM)Neural network is designed. In this model, the CNN is used to extract the formation characteristics of UAV swarm and the spatial position characteristics of single UAV track in the formation,while the LSTM is used to extract the time characteristics of UAV swarm. Experimental results show that compared with the traditional algorithms, the algorithm based on CNN-LSTM neural network can make full use of multiple feature information of the target, and has better robustness and accuracy for swarm targets.

Selection of unmanned aerial vehicle systems for border monitoring using the MPSI-SPOTIS method

Purpose: The present paper assesses the decision problem of selecting Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems (SARP) by the hybrid MPSI-SPOTIS approach for deployment in border control and transborder illicit combat. Design/methodology/approach: By the hybrid MCDA MPSI-SPOTIS approach, and from the database available in Gettinger (2019), models were filtered by Endurance, Range, Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW), and Payload, fitting within the classification of Categories EB 0 and 2. Category EB 1 was not considered in this study due to the limited number of models in the data source. Findings: The use of the Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) tool MPSI-SPOTIS allowed the determination of weights by stochastic criteria, applied in a ranking method resistant to reverse ordering. The application of the method identified the Raybird-3 (Cat EB 0) and Searcher (Mk3) (Cat EB 2) models as the best alternatives. From a proposed clustering, other selection possibilities with close performance in the evaluation were presented. The cost criterion was not taken into consideration due to the absence of information in the data source employed. Future studies are suggested to include criteria related to the life cycle and acquisition cost of the models. A no-code swarm simulation framework for agent-based modeling using nature-inspired algorithms

Swarm robotics describes the coordination among multiple robots assigned to perform a single task collectively and work as a system. The system is usually used in search and-rescue missions in adverse natural environments. Research in this field involves testing theories and algorithms by using physical robots which requires expensive environment setup. This study presents a novel no-code simulation framework for swarm robotics. The software framework provides a set of building block of various components to customize the research and development process. Besides the various platforms that exist nowadays, this proposed framework overcomes the common problem of low flexibility in modeling, resulting significant improvements in the development of any simulation through customization of algorithms and multi-agent modeling. For rapid development of simulation instances, this study proposes a swarm simulation framework that allows multi-agent modeling in a no-code development environment by defining the number of agents and the behaviors they are expected to exhibit. A random environment is generated where the agents and specific target is defined to test swarm robots for search and rescue operations. The framework mainly proposes a no-code environment and provides the opportunity to test the swarm behavior and relevant theories with flexibilities to make necessary adjustments. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

An empirical analysis of hyperparameter tuning impact on ensemble machine learning algorithm for earthquake damage prediction

Earthquake damage prediction is crucial for ensuring the safety of building occupants and preventing substantial financial losses. Because it enables robust structural design, financial readiness, and well-timed expenditures in preventive measures, anticipating seismic impacts promotes sustainability and long-term building. Machine learning (ML) have transformed building damage prediction, providing efficient methodologies for assessing structural vulnerabilities and risks. ML analyzes multifaceted datasets, handling complex spatial and temporal data, enhancing accuracy in forecasting damage probabilities and enabling proactive monitoring for timely interventions. However, ensemble machine learning and the fine-tuning of such algorithms with the hyperparameter optimization with the earthquake damage prediction have not been explored in the literature yet. Hyperparameter optimization in machine learning enhances model performance and generalization capacity. Skillful adjustment of hyperparameters significantly improves predictive accuracy, resilience, and training convergence, ensuring optimal model performance across diverse datasets and real-world scenarios. This study focuses on improving earthquake damage prediction accuracy through an extensive analysis of the earthquake dataset on ensemble machine learning with hyperparameter tuning. Utilizing various hyperparameter tuning algorithms and examining five ensemble machine learning algorithms, combined with six distinct hyperparameter tuning techniques, significantly enhanced accuracy. The paper’s main contributions include exploring novel hyperparameter tuning algorithms for earthquake damage prediction and filling a knowledge gap in the field. The thorough dataset analysis revealed a scarcity of existing literature, suggesting opportunities for further research. Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication networks consist of resource-constrained autonomous devices, also known as autonomous Internet of things (IoTs) or machine-type communication devices (MTCDs) which act as a backbone for Industrial IoT, smart cities, and other autonomous systems. Due to the limited computing and memory capacity, these devices cannot maintain strong security if conventional security methods are applied such as heavy encryption. This article proposed a novel lightweight mutual authentication scheme including elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) driven end-to-end encryption through curve25519 such as (i): efficient end-to-end encrypted communication with pre-calculation strategy using curve25519;and (ii): elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) based mutual authentication technique through a novel lightweight hash function. The proposed scheme attempts to efficiently counter all known perception layer security threats. Moreover, the pre-calculated key generation strategy resulted in cost-effective encryption with 192-bit curve security. It showed comparative efficiency in key strength, and curve strength compared with similar authentication schemes in terms of computational and memory cost, communication performance and encryption robustness.

Phishing is one form of cyber attack used to obtain sensitive information from targeted individuals. Through this process, the attacker masquerades as a domain similar to an official legitimate website. Perpetrators can execute attacks with minimal expenses and effort, allowing them to initiate numerous assaults rapidly. The swift pace of phishing underscores the importance of automated detection processes in ensuring the protection of Internet users. Recently, many promising approaches, such as the content-based approach, heuristic-based approach, Fuzzy's rule-based approach and machine-learning approach have been used to distinguish between phishing and legitimate ones. The existing studies do not focus on a probabilistic approach. Therefore, this study uses the Naive Bayes classification to detect phishing sites. The study compares three naive Bayes approaches: Bernoulli Naive Bayes, Multinomial Naive Bayes, and Complement Naive Bayes. The evaluation result of the Complement Naive Bayes Classifier and Multinomial Naive Bayes is superior to Bernoulli Naive Bayes. Both of the classifiers give 96 percent accuracy. As for detecting phishing websites, text classification and feature extraction are essential tasks;Naive Bayes classification provides an appropriate output. © 2024 IEEE.
