Pet owners experience difficulty in understanding their pets' body language and its implications for animal welfare, given that animals cannot utilize human speech to communicate their emotions and health conditions. However, previous experiments for analyzing cat behavior have demonstrated that cats are precisely expressive. DeepCat, a deep-learning approach developed in this study, translates cats' body language signals, enabling owners to discern their feline companions' intended messages and emotional states. Our DeepCat model was trained on a dataset comprising 10,000 cat images, implementing automatic labeling to track key features, including the tail, eyes, and mouth. Presented as a Flutter application, DeepCat can function everywhere, allowing owners to easily monitor their cats and make informed decisions in situations that require caution. This paper discusses the potential benefits and limitations of DeepCat and provides suggestions for future research in this domain.

The financial backbone of every telecommunications company is strictly made up of the number of customers patronizing the organization. Due to the high level of competition amongst existing telecommunication companies, customers sometimes leave, dropping the services of a particular one for the other. Predicting which subscribers may want to leave a telecommunications company and providing solutions to keep them from doing so, are the main objectives of customer churn prediction. Churn prediction helps classify consumers who are likely to move from one business to another. The ability to foresee churners before they leave has been increasingly useful in recent years, especially in light of increased competition among communications carriers. To compute churners for telecommunications providers, the study described in this paper used oversampling techniques to balance churn data and applied the dimensionality reduction technique to discover optimal features with a strong predictive ability for detecting would-be churners and non-churners. The model used Logistic Regression and the Naïve Bayes Classification Algorithm to implement comparative classification strategies. The performance levels of these strategies were compared using a Telecommunications Customer Churn data set, as well as performance metrics such as accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. The Naïve Bayes Algorithm proves more efficient than its counterpart giving higher positive rate detection and a lower negative rate detection. © 2023 IEEE.

This study aims to increase the number of access users by limiting the sample size to 30 users while ensuring that every Optical Network Unit (ONU) receives data from the Optical Line Terminal (OLT). The proposed solution allows for the determination of power requirements at each ONU based on bus-star topologies, facilitating an increase in user capacity. The power received by each ONU is a critical parameter that system designers must consider when planning the implementation of Fiber to the Home (FTTH), as it impacts the output data in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal Quality Factor (QF) for each user. Various parameters were evaluated to ensure that the enhanced network improves scalability while adhering to standard specifications. These parameters included the Q-factor, BER, eye diagram, user count, and received power. The study employed slicing and duplication techniques, utilizing Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) for signal duplication and Wavelength Division Multiplexing for signal slicing. The simulations were conducted using a transmitter operating at a frequency of 1491 nm with a power output of 0 dBm, utilizing the latest version of OptiSystem 20 software. The results highlighted the system's capability to support a total of 73,728 users, meeting stringent performance criteria. Specifically, the system achieved a Q-factor greater than 6, indicating high signal quality, and a bit error rate (BER) lower than 1 × 10-9, ensuring reliable data transmission. For the sampled 30 users, the average Q factor was 8.1527, and the average BER was 5.3648 × 10^-11, with an output power level of -54.278 dBm. Despite an increase in users, the quality of the data supplied to clients remained unchanged. These outcomes underscore the robustness and efficiency of the design in delivering high-capacity, error-resilient optical communication. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

In this paper we consider the filtering of partially observed multi-dimensional diffusion processes that are observed regularly at discrete times. We assume that, for numerical reasons, one has to time-discretize the diffusion process which typically leads to filtering that is subject to discretization bias. The approach in [16] establishes that when only having access to the time discretized diffusion it is possible to remove the discretization bias with an estimator of finite variance. We improve on the method in [16] by introducing a modified estimator based on the recent work of [17]. We show that this new estimator is unbiased and has finite variance. Moreover, we conjecture and verify in numerical simulations that substantial gains are obtained. That is, for a given mean square error (MSE) and a particular class of multi-dimensional diffusion, the cost to achieve the said MSE falls. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

OSM: Leveraging model checking for observing dynamic 1 behaviors in aspect-oriented applications

In the intricate domain of software systems verification, dynamically model checking multifaceted system characteristics remains paramount, yet challenging. This research proposes the advanced observe-based statistical model-checking (OSM) framework, devised to craft executable formal models directly from foundational system code. Leveraging model checking predicates, the framework melds seamlessly with aspect-oriented programming paradigms, yielding a potent method for the analytical verification of varied behavioral attributes. Exploiting the transformative capacity of OSM framework, primary system code undergoes a systematic metamorphosis into multifaceted analysis constructs. This not only simplifies the model verification process but also orchestrates feature interactions using an innovative observing join point abstraction mechanism. Within this framework, components encompassing parsing, formal verification, computational analytics, and rigorous validation are intrinsically interwoven. Marrying the principles of model checking with aspect-oriented (AO) modularization, OSM framework stands as a paragon, proficiently scrutinizing and affirming system specifications. This ensures the unyielding performance of electronic health record systems amidst shifting preconditions. OSM framework offers runtime verification of both object-oriented and AO deployments, positioning itself as an indispensable open-source resource, poised to automate the enhancement of system performance and scalability. The ongoing shift of populations from rural villages to urban centers in Nepal has led to farmland abandonment, drawing wildlife, particularly rhesus macaques, closer to human settlements. This proximity has resulted in frequent crop raids, causing substantial agricultural damage, and affecting the wellbeing of farmers. Traditional non-lethal deterrent methods, including noisemakers and netting, have proven ineffective. To address this issue, the described project aimed to develop a surveillance system using AI technology and IoT modules to detect macaque raids and alert farmers promptly. The system comprises a Raspberry Pi equipped with a camera and microphone, designed to detect motion and process live video feeds for monkey detection. Audio data is also recorded for future model training. Unlike solutions requiring extensive infrastructure, this system is costeffective and deployable in remote areas without specialized transceivers. Initial tests indicate the system's potential to protect crops and enhance farmers’ quality of life, fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife in Nepal.

This study develops an adaptive handover strategy in 5G networks to tackle high mobility challenges and improve service continuity and quality. The research method uses a 5G network emulator with a topology of four base stations (gNBs) to test user equipment (UE) speeds of 20 km/h and 130 km/h. The adaptive algorithm developed utilizes data from the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) as well as the speed and direction of user mobility to make optimal handover decisions. The results show that at a speed of 130 km/h, the average handover latency reaches 12 ms, compared to 8 ms at 80 km/h. Additionally, the signal quality (RSSI) is lower at higher speeds, negatively affecting service quality. This adaptive algorithm successfully reduces handover latency and improves the stability and efficiency of the overall network. The testing also indicates that this adaptive algorithm can predict handover targets by considering UE speed and direction and uses hysteresis mechanisms to prevent overly frequent handovers. By employing technologies such as Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and beamforming, this strategy is expected to maintain high service quality even under high mobility conditions.

Objective: To develop an artificial intelligence model based on convolutional neural network for detecting and measuring periodontal radiographic bone loss (RBL). Materials and methods: Keypoint annotations were carried out in 595 digital bitewing radiographic images using a computer Vision Annotation Tool. The dataset was splitted: 416 of these images were trained using the You Only Look Once version 8 architecture with pose estimation (YOLO-v8-pose), 119 images were destined for the validation set, and 60 images were used for the test set, resulting in a model capable of detecting keypoints related to the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) and alveolar bone crest (ABC). In order to evaluate the performance of the obtained model, the following metrics were analyzed: F1-Score, precision, sensitivity and mean average precision (mAP). Then, an algorithm was implemented to measure the RBL by calculating the Euclidean distance between CEJ and ABC. Results: The model achieved an F1-Score of 66,89%, precision of 61,1%, a sensitivity of 73,9% and an mAP of 73.8%. Conclusions: The developed model and its algorithm for identifying and measuring periodontal radiographic bone loss demonstrated promising performance, thereby presenting a potential tool for assisting in periodontal diagnosis. Further studies comparing the developed model with manual measurements performed by specialists are necessary for its validation. Clinical relevance: Applying artificial intelligence in clinical dental practice can support diagnosis, streamline clinical workflows, and inform treatment planning, representing a significant advancement in dental automation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Gaussian processes (GPs) are commonly used for geospatial analysis, but they suffer from high computational complexity when dealing with massive data. For instance, the log-likelihood function required in estimating the statistical model parameters for geospatial data is a computationally intensive procedure that involves computing the inverse of a covariance matrix with size $n$ × n, where $n$ represents the number of geographical locations in the simplest case. As a result, in the literature, studies have shifted towards approximation methods to handle larger values of $n$ effectively while maintaining high accuracy. These methods encompass a range of techniques, including low-rank and sparse approximations. Among these techniques, Vecchia approximation is one of the most promising methods to speed up evaluating the log-likelihood function. This study presents a parallel implementation of the Vecchia approximation technique, utilizing batched matrix computations on contemporary GPUs. The proposed implementation relies on batched linear algebra routines to efficiently execute individual conditional distributions in the Vecchia algorithm. We rely on the KBLAS linear algebra library to perform batched linear algebra operations, reducing the time to solution compared to the state-of-the-art parallel implementation of the likelihood estimation operation in the ExaGeoStat software by up to 700X, 833X, 1380X on 32GB GV100, 80GB A100, and 80GB H100 GPUs, respectively, with the largest matrix dimension that can fully fit into the GPU memory in the dense Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) case. We also successfully manage larger problem sizes on a single NVIDIA GPU, accommodating up to 1 million locations with 80GB A100 and H100 GPUs while maintaining the necessary application accuracy. We further assess the accuracy performance of the implemented algorithm, identifying the optimal settings for the Vecchia approximation algorithm to preserve accuracy on two real geos

This paper presents a hybrid BRKGA (Q-HBRKGA) that combines BRKGA with Q-learning and a Local Branching technique to solve the Knapsack Problem with Forfeits(KPF). The aim is to tackle this problem, a vari-ant of the 0–1 Knapsack Problem, where a penalty cost is imposed when both items of a forfeit pair are included in the solution. Notably, Q-HBRKGA achieves superior results compared to existing approaches, establishing a valid strategy for KPF problem-solving. Computational experiments, utilizing benchmark instances, demonstrate the efficacy of Q-HBRKGA by outperforming state-of-the-art methods documented in the literature.
