A collaborative course called Global Awareness for technology Implementation was conducted by the Faculty of engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and the Tokyo Institute of technology, Japan. The objective of this course was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, perspectives, and experiences between Thai and Japanese students through project work, using an engineering design approach and the design thinking process to create innovation relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the class, experts shared their knowledge and experiences with the students. The students then worked on their respective projects to develop solution concepts using the design thinking process. The proposed ideas include the application for English class, smart water quality checker, hydrogen-based energy system for rural area, reduced wasted fashion solution, and auto waste sorting machine. Finally, this study concluded with a summary of the results and findings on the empathy process in the chosen SDGs, and of the commonalities and differences between Thailand and Japan in terms of ideation.

This article describes the estimation of a 3D point using a Kinect sensor and the Robot Operating System (ROS) along with You Only Look Once (YOLO) for object detection. The Kinect sensor provides RGB-D images, which are used to create a Point Cloud representing the geometry of the environment. ROS is used as a robotics development framework, while YOLO is employed to identify objects in the scene. The article presents the packages used, the datasets used for measurement, and the configuration of ROS and YOLO. Additionally, the functionalities of RViz, a 3D visualization tool used in the tests, are explored. Furthermore, it covers the methods employed, the acquired data, and an analysis of the error margin in relation to the measurement of the distance between the Kinect and the object. The findings and techniques presented in this study contribute to addressing the challenges faced in the RoboCup@Home competition, specifically in the context of object manipulation tasks.

A previous study [Entropy 25.4 (2023): 590] proposed a quantum secure multi-party summation protocol wherein n participants could obtain the modulo-2 summation result using single photons and single-particle operations. Owing to the absence of an entanglement state, this protocol was more practical than other quantum summation protocols that used entanglement properties. Thus, this study investigated the claim that this proposed protocol prevented the participants’ secret inputs from being disclosed. It was found that the previously proposed protocol was vulnerable to a quantum Trojan horse attack owing to the circular qubit transmission mode. Using a security loophole, this study proposed an attack strategy that allowed an outside attacker to steal any participant’s secret input without being detected by a third party and participants. In addition, a simulation experiment was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed attack and evaluate the number of quantum Trojan horse probes that the attacker must inject into regular qubit sequences. Finally, a solution was proposed by modifying the protocol to securely prevent quantum Trojan horse attacks. © 2024 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Unbiased Estimation using Underdamped Langevin Dynamics

In this work we consider the unbiased estimation of expectations w.r.t. probability measures that have non-negative Lebesgue density, and which are known point-wise up-to a normalizing constant. We focus upon developing an unbiased method via the underdamped Langevin dynamics, which has proven to be popular of late due to applications in statistics and machine learning. Specifically in continuous-time, the dynamics can be constructed so that as the time goes to infinity they admit the probability of interest as a stationary measure. In many cases, time-discretized versions of the underdamped Langevin dynamics are used in practice which are run only with a fixed number of iterations. We develop a novel scheme based upon doubly randomized estimation as in [17, 19], which requires access only to time-discretized versions of the dynamics. The proposed scheme aims to remove the dicretization bias and the bias resulting from running the dynamics for a finite number of iterations. We prove, under standard assumptions, that our estimator is of finite variance and either has finite expected cost, or has finite cost with a high probability. To illustrate our theoretical findings we provide numerical experiments which verify our theory, which include challenging examples from Bayesian statistics and statistical *** Codes 60J22, 65C05, 65C40, 82C31, 62G08, 35Q56 © 2022, CC BY.

Silver nanowires (AgNWs) hold great promise for applications in wearable electronics, flexible solar cells, chemical and biological sensors, photonic/plasmonic circuits, and scanning probe microscopy (SPM) due to their unique plasmonic, mechanical, and electronic properties. However, the lifetime, reliability, and operating conditions of AgNW-based devices are significantly restricted by their poor chemical stability, limiting their commercial potentials. Therefore, it is crucial to create a reliable oxidation barrier on AgNWs that provides long-term chemical stability to various optical, electrical, and mechanical devices while maintaining their high performance. Here we report a room-temperature solution-phase approach to grow an ultra-thin, epitaxial gold coating on AgNWs to effectively shield the Ag surface from environmental oxidation. The Ag@Au core-shell nanowires (Ag@Au NWs) remain stable in air for over six months, under elevated temperature and humidity (80 °C and 100% humidity) for twelve weeks, in physiological buffer solutions for three weeks, and can survive overnight treatment of an oxidative solution (2% H2O2). The Ag@Au core-shell NWs demonstrated comparable performance as pristine AgNWs in various electronic, optical, and mechanical devices, such as transparent mesh electrodes, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates, plasmonic waveguides, plasmonic nanofocusing probes, and high-aspect-ratio, high-resolution atomic force microscopy (AFM) probes. These Au@Ag core-shell NWs offer a universal solution towards chemically-stable AgNW-based devices without compromising material property or device performance.

Sasirangan cloth is one of the traditional cloths owned by Indonesia and is a typical cloth originating from the province of South Kalimantan. This Sasirangan cloth has many motifs and is unique. Sasirangan cloth is also one of the potentials that can attract local and foreign tourists to visit South Kalimantan. However, in recent years, tourist visits to South Kalimantan have decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then it also has an impact on the delay in the implementation of the Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival which is usually held annually. The next impact is a decrease in turnover and interest in shopping for Sasirangan cloth, so that employees who work for Sasirangan cloth craftsmen are dismissed and reduce people's income. So the purpose of this study is to report the results of the development of a Virtual Reality Game application called VR-SasiranganKu by integrating the interaction of Non-Player Character (NPC) behavior with the type of narrative in the simulation genre game. VR-SasiranganKu is recommended to introduce and at the same time promote Sasirangan cloth to users, then justify the reaction to knowledge and shopping experience, and evaluate user experience using the UX Honeycomb method. Respondents involved as many as 100 people who are local and national tourists. The results show that the interaction of NPC behavior can provide good direction to users regarding the introduction of Sasirangan cloth by presenting an appropriate interaction design based on the narrative and the theme of the NPC that has been adopted, the results of justification using VR-SasiranganKu can provide knowledge reaction and very good shopping experience, and based on user experience evaluation that VR-SasiranganKu has adopted a very good UX with an average score of 4.91.

In the context of smart cities where green infras-tructure is incentived, besides important benefits like regulating temperatures and absorbing pollutants among others, tour by urban forests is a way to experience closer contact with nature near of big urban centers. Eventually, visitors get lost, and helping these people with velocity is important to avoid severe incidents. Normally, rescue operations mobilize firefighters, ex-pensive equipment like helicopters and public resources. Following that idea of reducing search time in rescue operations, this paper considers the Data Mule Routing Problem with Limited Autonomy (DMRP-wLA). To find high-quality solutions, this paper proposes an Ant Colony Optimization algorithm enhanced with Reinforcement Learning to create an adaptive decision-making algorithm.

Sensing and retrieving data from ocean to land are challenging tasks, while the Internet of Sea concept provides a realistic solution to that. A large frequency ratio dual-band microstrip antenna design working at GSM, LoRa, and BLE bands with consistent radiation pattern is proposed for Internet of Sea applications. The antenna is based on a modified Split Ring Antenna which provides two radiating modes, where the frequency ratio is close to 3. The proposed microstrip antenna is optimized for a better radiation efficiency and consistent radiation pattern at both bands. The method to control the H-plane HPBW of the proposed antenna is provided. The antenna prototype is fabricated and measured, which shows the radiation pattern at both bands are consistent and the H-plane HPBWs are 94°and 78°, at the lower and higher bands respectively.

Sensing and retrieving data from ocean to land are challenging and expensive tasks, while the Internet of Sea (IoS) concept can help to monitor ocean environment in a low-cost way. In this paper, an Electrically Small (ES) dual-band monopole antenna is proposed for the IoS application. Dual-band operation (GSM-900, LoRa, and BLE bands) and vertical polarization are maintained in a very compact size. The proposed antenna operates as a folded monopole antenna at 900MHz, and as a simple monopole antenna at 2.4 GHz, by combining the top-loaded folded monopole antenna and the 2-layer monopole feeding structure. The proposed antenna has ka of 0.45 at the LB, with a decent polarization purity and radiation efficiency of 54%. The proposed antenna is designed with a low-cost additive manufacturing material system.

Industrial conveyor belt systems are an efficient means of transport due to their adaptability and extension. Nonetheless, such systems are prone to various failures, including but not limited to: idler anomalies; belt tears; and pin misalignment which can cause significant disruptions in the production process. Preemptive maintenance and health monitoring of these conveyor belts is a common practice for avoiding these failures, but a challenging task due to the rarity of comprehensive anomaly detection datasets in the area, with current works aimed at evaluating the belt's immediate condition at fixed points. This study addresses this research gap by comparing multiple machine learning techniques, such as a proposed Hybrid Neural Network (HNN) tailored for classification of multiple anomaly classes, as well as machine learning approaches for time series based on feature extraction, Catch22, Minirocket Arsenal, and Time Series Forest. Our proposed HNN architecture performed better in classifying and distinguishing between different types of anomalies, with an accuracy of 95.55%. The obtained results suggest a promising approach for the area of predictive maintenance for industrial conveyor systems, as well as gives insights on possible improvements on the model and future research.
