This essay examines how Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly transforming design practices and how discourse often falls into over-simplified narratives that impede meaningful research and practical progress. We identify and deconstruct five prevalent "semantic stopsigns"—reductive framings about GenAI in design that halt deeper inquiry and limit productive engagement. Reflecting upon two expert workshops at ACM conferences and semi-structured interviews with design practitioners, we analyze how these stopsigns manifest in research and practice. Our analysis develops mid-level knowledge that bridges theoretical discourse and practical implementation, helping designers and researchers interrogate common assumptions about GenAI in their own contexts. By recasting these stopsigns into more nuanced frameworks, we provide the design research community with practical approaches for thinking about and working with these emerging technologies. © 2025, CC BY.

March U: A test for unlinked memory faults

Short and efficient memory tests is the goal of every test designer. To reduce the cost of production tests, often a simple test which covers most of the faults, e.g. all simple (unlinked) faults, is desirable to eliminate most defective parts;a more costly test can be used thereafter to eliminate the remainder of the bad parts. Such a test-cost efficient approach is used by most manufacturers. In addition, system power-on tests are not allowed a long test time while a high fault coverage is desirable. The authors propose a new realistic fault model (the disturb fault model), and a set of tests for unlinked faults. These tests have the property of covering all simple (unlinked) faults at a very reasonable test time compared with existing tests.

An improvement of the majority gale algorithm suitable for grey scale morphological operations is presented in the Letter. The redundancy of temporal signals led to a simplified hardware implementation. It is shown that maximin operators can be computed by the same circuit. A new pipelined systolic array architecture based oil this circuit is illustrated for dilation/erosion operations.

A fast fuzzy K-nearest neighbour algorithm for pattern classification

A fast procedure for classifying a given test pattern to one of its possible classes using both the K-NN decision rule and concepts of the fuzzy set theory is described in this paper. The method is divided into two steps;in the first step the K nearest neighbours are found using a fast procedure, whereas in the second step the test pattern is classified using a fuzzy distance measure. The fast K-NN algorithm proceeds in finding a region containing at least K neighbours around the test sample by utilising an ordered search procedure of the test point from three reference points. In the sequence the found region is modified in such a way that the real K nearest neighbours of the given point will be always inside it. Then a small number of distance calculations are required to identify the true K-nearest neighbours and the fuzzy measure is applied to classify the test pattern. The pre-processing load is quite moderate and computer simulation results show that the misclassification rate is lower than, or similar to, the crisp version, while presenting results richer in information content than its crisp counterpart. This rate is also kept low even in the case we do not perform modifications that ensure the true K-NN finding. © 2000-IOS Press. All rights reserved.

With the rapid progress of deep convolutional neural networks,several applications of crowd counting have been proposed and explored in the *** congested scene monitoring,a variety of crowd density estimating approaches has been *** understanding of highly congested scenes for crowd counting during Muslim gatherings of Hajj and Umrah is a challenging task,as a large number of individuals stand nearby and,it is hard for detection techniques to recognize them,as the crowd can vary from low density to high *** deal with such highly congested scenes,we have proposed the Congested Scene Crowd Counting Network(CSCC-Net)using VGG-16 as a core network with its first ten layers due to its strong and robust transfer learning rate.A hole dilated convolutional neural network is used at the back end to widen the relevant field to extract a large range of information from the image without losing its original *** dilated convolution neural network is mainly chosen to expand the kernel size without changing other ***,several loss functions have been applied to strengthen the evaluation accuracy of the ***,the entire experiments have been evaluated using prominent data sets namely,ShanghaiTech parts A,B,UCF_CC_50,and UCF_*** model has achieved remarkable results i.e.,68.0 and 9.0 MAE on ShanghaiTech parts A,B,199.1 MAE on UCF_CC_50,and 99.8 on UCF_QNRF data sets respectively.

Images for social media are an essential component of any blog or social media post. As we now live in the age of the ‘camera in everyone’s pocket’, a new dynamic era of image creation and content has emerged. However, people use media due to specific motives or gratifications that lead to their satisfaction of social media use. This research study utilized uses and gratification theory (UGT), a sociology theory related to the motives of people using the media. The UGT factors include enjoyment, entertainment, social influence, social interaction, and information sharing. There were 441 data that were collected and analysed. IBM SPSS Statistics 20 and Smart PLS 3.3.3 were used for the data analysis. Result showed that information sharing was the most influencing factors on users’ satisfaction to use image in social media. Therefore, the factors identified in these studies could be used as a guideline and references in future study related to social media awareness and implications. © 2022. Grading of writers in perspective of their handwriting is a challenging task owing to various writing styles of different *** paper presents a framework for grading of Devanagari writers in perspective of their *** framework of grading can be useful in conducting the handwriting competitions and then deciding the winners on the basis of an automated *** the set of features is a challenging task for implementing a handwriting grading system of particular *** this paper,curvature features,namely,parabola curve fitting and power curve fitting have been considered for extracting the vital information of writers,which can be helpful in grading the *** obtaining the classification score,k-NN classifier has been considered in the present *** printed Devanagari font styles,namely,Devlys,Krishna,Krutidev,and Utsaah have been considered for train the proposed model of handwriting *** evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed framework,we have conducted a mock test of 75 Devanagari writers(Left handed and Right handed)and noticed that the proposed framework performing well suitable for conducting the handwriting competition of Devanagari text *** work is also newly in the ground of Devanagari text recognition.

In this paper, the feature selection problem was formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem, and new criteria were proposed to fulfill the goal. Foremost, data were pre-processed with missing value replacement scheme, re-sampling procedure, data type transformation procedure, and min-max normalization procedure. After that a wide variety of classifiers and feature selection methods were conducted and evaluated. Finally, the paper presented comprehensive experiments to show the relative performance of the classification tasks. The experimental results revealed the success of proposed methods in credit approval data. In addition, the numeric results also provide guides in selection of feature selection methods and classifiers in the knowledge discovery process. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper reports the results of a comparison between a new class of architectures, called transport-triggered architectures, and traditional architectures, called operation-t~iggered architectures. It does this comparison by means of the MOVE-i860, which is a transport-triggered approximation of the i860. Several benchmarks are scheduled for the MOVE-i860 by a software pipelining scheduler. By scheduling according to three scheduling disciplines, we are able to measure the advantages of transport-triggered architectures. The results of the experiments show that transport-triggered architectures perform better than operation-triggered architectures with similar hardware. © 1992, Springer Verlag. All rights reserved.
