The growth of the electricity distribution networks and increasing application of distributed generators, has led to complexity of monitoring of automation process and possibility of making wrong decisions in operation of these networks. Hence, a system that can be housed in energy control centers to assist distribution network operators in diagnosing cases of failure diagnosis sounds necessary. Regarding this, our study employs Petri net modeling to provide a model of automation system on a distribution network that can be implemented in the monitoring system of distribution networks control centers, and using the information received at these centers, to monitor various stages of automation process, detect faulted sections, and also, to inform the operator about the incorrect states in a real time manner. Therefore, the proposed model reduces incorrect outages and increases reliability of distribution networks by informing the operator and assisting him to decide correctly. © 2011 IEEE.

With the widespread of precise instruments and energy-aware devices, the research on control system for linear voltage source is highly motivated in nowadays. A novel control system architecture for high-precision linear voltage source is proposed in this paper. Primarily, our methodology aims at connecting components of discrete-time voltage sensing,Direct Digital Synthesis(DDS) and analog signal amplifing with our state-machine-aware PID controller. Furtherly issues about performance tuning and optimization are also discussed from both theoretical side and empirical observations. Finally a prototype system is built as a part of our *** a set of evaluations, we are pleased to discover that our prototype outperforms with other exisitng approaches in the terms of precision and satisfies the requirements to longterm stability as well as instantaneous response.

Container code examination is an essential step in the container flow management. To date, this step is mostly achieved by human visual inspections, which are however time-consuming and error-prone. We hence propose a new computer vision system for automated container code recognition. The proposed system consists of model construction and code recognition stages. In the model construction stage, we first incorporate a locally thresholding method with prior knowledge of code character geometry to segment the code characters, including English characters A-Z and numeric characters 0-9, from a training set of container images. With the segmentation results of each character, we subsequently construct its Eigen-feature model using the principal component analysis (PCA). In the recognition stage, the code characters are firstly segmented from the given container image. Each segmented character is then recognized by finding the best matched Eigen-feature model that maintains the minimal PCA reconstruction error of the character appearance. Experiments showed that the proposed method achieved the code recognition with a high recognition rate and little recognition time for each image automatically. Overall, our proposed system has great potential for improving the efficiency of container terminals as well as enhancing the container management.

In this paper we present the effect of the hand-grip and the presence of the human body on received signal strength measurements when performing positioning of mass market devices in indoor environments. We demonstrate that the mitigation of both human body and hand-grip influence can enhance the positioning accuracy and that the human factor cannot be neglected in experimental activities with real mobile devices.

User authentication is an important technology to guarantee that only the legal users can access resources from the remote server. To protect users from tracing, we proposed a new efficient dynamic ID-based authentication with smart card to achieve the user anonymity property. Since only one-way hash function and simple exclusive-or operations are involved in the processes, the proposed scheme is very suitable for the hardware-limited users such as the mobile units. © 2011.

In this paper, a modified quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (MQ PSO) approach is proposed to solve optimization problems. The proposed MQPSO algorithm which combines the conceptions of genetic algorithm (GA) and simulated annealing (SA) with the QPSO algorithm can deal with the large scale global optimization problems. That is, an elitist crossover of the GA is used for conquering premature;adaptive decay of the SA is used for controlling search policy. From simulation results, the proposed MQPSO approach can readily converge without losing precisions on estimating optimal solutions of multimodal functions taken from the benchmark of the large scale global optimization problems. Data mining techniques are important to sift through the huge amount of gene expression values in microarrays resulting in valuable biological knowledge. An important example is classifying cancer samples, which is crucial to biologists for cancer diagnosis and treatment. In this paper we propose the DMCA technique in which the main objective is reducing the number of genes needed for accurate classification. The proposed technique is a combination of two feature selection techniques, f-score and entropy-based, and a powerful classifier, Support Vector Machines. DMCA achieved promising results and is characterized by being flexible in all of its stages. When applied to two public microarray datasets, DMCA succeeded in reducing the number of gene expression values needed to classify a sample by 71.29% and guaranteed reliable classification accuracy.

The task of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in Wireless Sensors Networks (WSNs) is to monitor sensor network systems; detecting possible intrusions in the WSNs environment, alerting users after intrusions had been detected and reconfiguring the network if possible. In this study a Distributed IDS for WSNs was developed. Distributed IDS is implemented using TMote sky wireless sensor for testing and simulation over specified parameters. For efficient monitoring of the WSNs, the proposed system employs Mobile Agents (MAs) that can communicate with other sensors and move from one Base Station (BS) to another in order to enhance intrusion detection and prevention. Comparative analysis of the result is studied based on three major parameters: energy consumption, response time and detection accuracy. The result of the study shows better performance.

A method is proposed that uses the fundamental physical differences between direct and indirect energy deposition processes to obtain accurate values of the sensitive volume (SV) thickness and critical charge of electronic devices. The intention is to calibrate a unified model capable of describing both heavy ion and proton test data through Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and therefore also suitable for performing on-board predictions. The method was applied toavailable test data from a Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) power MESFET currently on board the MetOp-A Earth-observation mission, and results were contrasted with the measured on-board time to failure period.
