Remote machine system consists of network of machines that transmit or receive data to or from some remote locations over a telecommunications network. Mobile computing has risen to new level with the advent of Global System for Mobile communication with General Packet Radio Service (GSM/GPRS). Bringing machine system control and monitoring to mobile phones is the focus of this paper, especially in 2/2.5G mobile networks, thus the paper presents an implementation of GSM-based remotely controlled and monitored machine system. The implementation of the design used the GSM/GPRS and the Internet to relay data between two java enabled mobile phones, over wide distances, and a Bluetooth link for data exchange over short distances between a 'resident' phone and the microcontroller that controlled the operations of the machine system. Java technology platform was used to program the mobile phones and an Internet server. The microcontroller was programmed using the PBASIC language. Results obtained from the tests showed that in terms of control precisions, the implementation was able to control the machines servo to a number of different states, and response time analysis revealed that each 2-way transaction averaged less than 15 seconds in response time, which is appropriate for most applications.

A search for contact interactions has been performed using dimuon events recorded with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at s=7 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 42 pb−1. No significant deviation from the standard model is observed in the dimuon mass spectrum, allowing the following 95% C.L. limits to be set on the energy scale of contact interactions: Λ>4.9 TeV (4.5 TeV) for constructive (destructive) interference in the left-left isoscalar compositeness model. These limits are the most stringent to date for μμqq contact interactions.

Privacy and anonymity have become two factors of increasing importance in auction protocol. This paper provides an efficient sealed-bid electronic auction protocol based on the technique of ring signature and veriable technique of encryption key chain. The peculiar characteristics of our protocol are non-repudiation of bidders but preserving their anonymity and allowing the auctioneer to determine the wining bid without revealing the losing bid. Our protocol has additional characteristics such as public veriability, unforgeability, correctness and fairness.

Most software engineering methods presume that requirements are explicitly and completely stated; however, experience shows that requirements are rarely complete and usually contain implicit requirements. The failure or success of a software system depends on the quality of the requirements. The quality of the requirements is influenced by the techniques employed during requirements elicitation. Requirements elicitation is most critical part of the software development because errors at this beginning stage propagate through the development process and the hardest to repair later. In this paper we have proposed an algorithmic approach to elicit the software requirements and its prioritization of the requirements using analytic hierarchy process (AHP).

In this paper we propose a generalized GSR model of fair exchange for e-contracting. Based on the model, the methodology is narrated to implement e-contracting protocols that ensure fairness in true sense without using an additional trusted third party for which either party has to pay. The model provides the scope to include the validated contract and money atomicity properties within e-contracting protocol. We conclude this paper by indicating the area of applicability for our model.

This paper is intended to present a lossless image compression method based on multiple-tables arithmetic coding (MTAC) method to encode a gray-level image f. First, the MTAC method employs a median edge detector (MED) to reduce the entropy rate of f. The gray levels of two adjacent pixels in an image are usually similar. A base-switching transformation approach is then used to reduce the spatial redundancy of the image. The gray levels of some pixels in an image are more common than those of others. Finally, the arithmetic encoding method is applied to reduce the coding redundancy of the image. To promote high performance of the arithmetic encoding method, the MTAC method first classifies the data and then encodes each cluster of data using a distinct code table. The experimental results show that, in most cases, the MTAC method provides a higher efficiency in use of storage space than the lossless JPEG2000 does.

The interdigital transducer (IDT)/AlN/conducting layer/diamond structures are investigated in this study to design surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices in the super high frequency band. Simulation results using the finite element method show that a thin conducting layer can effectively increase the coupling coefficient and, thus, broaden the bandwidth of SAW devices. For the Sezawa mode, it is illustrated that using a Ti layer with a layer thickness-to- wavelength ratio of 0.02 the maximum coupling coefficient is 2.546% and the associated SAW phase velocity is 10657 m/s at the AlN films' thickness-to-wavelength ratio of 0.14. This coupling coefficient is 105% higher than that in the IDT/AlN/diamond structure. The research results can be applied to design SAW devices using diamond based structures in the super high frequency band. © 2009 American Institute of Physics.

This paper presents an architectural model for wireless peer-to-peer (WP2P) file sharing system for ubiquitous mobile devices. File sharing is one of the rationales for computer networks with increasing demand for file sharing applications and technologies in small and large enterprise networks and on the Internet. With the popularity of mobile phones in day-to-day activities, P2P file sharing in mobile phones is highly desirable, especially in 2/2.5 G mobile networks. The proposed model is based on a hybrid or semi centralized architecture with the central database server acting as an interface between the mobile devices. The P2P communication model employs the short messaging service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) as the messaging medium. The mobile phone initiates a search for a particular file on the mobile P2P network using a general packet radio service (GPRS) connection. The database replies the ldquosearcherrdquo mobile phone with a list of all the available files and the details of the mobile phones that have them. Using this information, the requesting mobile phone makes a SMS connection to any of the phones provided by the database server. The mobile phone with the file then sends it to the requesting mobile phone using the MMS. We present an architectural model using mobile proxy, SMS and MMS, for a mobile P2P network for 2/2.5 G networks despite operator constraints.

Background: Human ovarian carcinoma is a silent killer. Most patients with human ovarian carcinoma are diagnosed in the advanced stages. Currently, no effective means of early detection are available. Identifying genes that distinguish early cancers from normal tissue may provide insight to the initiation and progression of ovarian cancer. Methods: A large-scale gene expression profiling using 9,600 genes-complementary DNA array to study ovarian tumors was conducted. We analyzed 13 benign tumors, 22 invasive cancers (seven stage I and 15 stage III), and 16 normal ovaries. Cluster analysis revealed two major groups: the early-stage cluster that included 13 benign tumors and seven stage I cancers;and the late-stage cluster that included all stage III cancers. Results: There were 433 upregulated and 60 downregulated genes from the early-stage cluster, and 395 upregulated and 101 downregulated genes from the late-stage cluster. These genes showed altered functions for tumor/cancers, functions such as cell growth, cell cycle control, differentiation, signaling, apoptosis, ion transport, and morphogenesis. Of most interest is the downregulation of nuclear receptor proteins. Differentially expressed genes between early-stage cluster and late-stage clusters were identified. We found 90 genes preferentially overly expressed and 165 genes relatively downregulated at late-stage cancers. The advanced cancer appears differently from early-stage cancer in cell growth, cell adhesion, hormone activity, morphology, and cell-cell signaling compared with benign or early-stage cancer. Of particular interest are enzymes corresponding to pteridine biosynthesis, reported for the first time in this study. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction showed that GCH1, KRT18, H3F3A, and MYBL2 were overly expressed in all cancer tissues, while MDFI, ARP3BETA, COL16A1, and MLN discriminated late-stage from early-stage cancers. Azimuthal decorrelations between the two central jets with the largest transverse momenta are sensitive to the dynamics of events with multiple jets. We present a measurement of the normalized differential cross section based on the full data set (∫Ldt=36 pb−1) acquired by the ATLAS detector during the 2010 s=7 TeV proton-proton run of the LHC. The measured distributions include jets with transverse momenta up to 1.3 TeV, probing perturbative QCD in a high-energy regime.
