We present a methodology for performing morphological operations using coordinate logic ones. Coordinate logic operations are simple and fast because they are logic operations among the corresponding binary values of the image pixels. Coordinate logic (CL) filters are a family of fast non-increasing, non-linear filters, which are based on coordinate logic operations. CL filters exhibit analogous properties to those of the morphological filters but due to their different definition they display slightly different response. This is revoked in this paper by using appropriate image gray level quantization. Based on this approach some fast efficient realizations of morphological filters using CL operators are proposed.

In this paper a new morphological technique suitable for colour image skeleton extraction is presented. Vector morphological operations are defined by means of a new ordering of vectors of the HSV colour space, which is a combination of conditional and partial sub-ordering. Then, these are used to extract skeletons of colour images in terms of erosions and openings. The proposed method was tested with a variety of images and such experimental results are provided. Its applications include image compression and recognition problems.

This paper describes the results of testing 50 single inline memory modules (SIMMs) each containing 16 16 Mbit DRAM chips (DUTs); 39 SIMMs failed, and of the 800 DUTs, 116 failed. In total 54 different test algorithms have been applied, using up to 168 different stress combinations for each test. The results show that GAL9R is the best test. Furthermore, it is shown that burst mode tests detect a completely different class of faults as compared with traditional word mode tests, and that tests with address scrambling enabled the detection of more faults.

With the advance of hardware and software technology, modern phased array radars are now built with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components, and it opens up a new era in real-time resource scheduling of digital signal processing. This paper targets the essential issues in building a component-oriented signal processor (SP), which is one of the two major modules in modern phased array radars. We propose a simple but effective task allocation policy and a real-time scheduling algorithm to address the design objectives of SPs. We are able to bound the number of processing units needed for a component-oriented SP in the design time, while everything was done empirically in the past. A series of experiments were done to demonstrate the strength of our methodology.

The rare-earth magnet whose BH-product is more than 30 MGOe makes the permanent magnet (PM) motor store attractive from a viewpoint of power density and efficiency. However, as the flux density becomes higher, the magnetic saturation in the stator teeth of the conventional slotted PM motor becomes severe. To overcome this problem, the slotless PM motor is expected to be one solution. In this paper, the basic design procedure of the slotless PM motor and the drive characteristics of the designed motor are presented. The designed motor has a rare-earth magnet on the rotor and the resin-molded helical windings are provided over the inner surface of the stator yoke. Since the inductance is small, the current is distorted, thus increasing the copper loss. The experimental studies of the effect of the current waveform on the performance are presented. By improving the current waveform, the designed slotless motor allows higher efficiency at higher speed.

A supervised classification method using a self-organizing map (SOM) is proposed to classify remote sensing data. The SOM structure is composed of two layers. One is an input layer with nodes corresponding to spectral bands. The other is an output layer with square array of nodes. First, a feature map on the output layer is generated by inputting training data into SOM. Each node in the feature map cannot be corresponding to a category because the number of nodes is generally greater than those of training data. Thus, a cluster map is generated by comparing differentials among weight vectors in nodes. Secondly, the training data is re-inputted into the cluster map to find the relationship between clusters and categories, that is, the cluster including a fired node is labeled as the category to which the training data belongs. In consequence of mapping, the category map is obtained from the feature map. The proposed classification method extracts liquefied area in Kobe (Japan) damaged by the 1995 Hyogoken Nanbu earthquake using the SPOT HRV data and the category map. As an experimental result, it is shown that classification accuracies of the proposed method are higher than those of the maximum likelihood and the backpropagation methods.
