An Offline Navigation system to navigate the user without any connectivity is implemented by using smartphone sensors. The implementation of the system is carried out by extracting the relevant data from the smartphone sensors and discovering some meaningful insights from it. The offline navigation system is completely independent of GPS and any network connectivity such as Wi-Fi, Cellular Network, Bluetooth, etc. The system uses the Accelerometer sensor, Gyroscope sensor, and Magnetic sensor which are already present in the smartphone. The sensor fusion concept is used to combine the data from all the sensors and fuse it to give the device's orientation. The accelerometer sensor provides the acceleration of the device in all three directions. Similarly, the gyroscope sensor provides the angular velocity of the device, and the magnetometer sensor provides the magnetic fields. The data from all three sensors are combined to calculate the orientation angle such as pitch, roll, yaw, and azimuth of the device. The filtering algorithm used is known as Kalman Filter. It fuses the data from different sensors which results in less error on the combined data. The angles then use the position estimation algorithm and step detection algorithm, to find the next step and the coordinates of the device to track the user. The algorithm makes use of the previously determined coordinates of the device. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper examines a cutting-edge approach that melds backscatter modulation principles with a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system. Building upon radio-frequency identification (RFID) backscatter modulation techniques, we present a fusion of FMCW radar, a reflecting antenna and load modulation. This combination of backscatter communication with radar describes an alternative candidate to those being typically discussed within the field of joint communication and sensing. In this paper we describe the working principle by means of simulation and prove its feasibility by measurements with a radar operating at a frequency of 24 GHz. We thereby differentiate between a slow symbol rate, for which a data symbol spans one or more radar chirps, and a fast symbol rate with more than one symbol being modulated onto one radar chirp. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach.

This paper presents a method of backscatter communication. Backscatter communication is a technology whereby a signal reflected back to the source is utilized to transmit information. An FMCW radar operating in the 60 GHz band with maximum bandwidth of 4 GHz is employed to this purpose. In this experiment the radar signal is modulated using a vibrating surface. The vibrating surface is generated by a licence plate attached to a loudspeaker. Encoding of the signal involves information in the form of a bit sequence. If this concept is applied, for example, in traffic scenarios, it can enable communication between road users. The experiments have shown that the radar correctly recognizes the bit sequence, thereby making information transfer possible. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach.

Collision prediction and avoidance are essential for the autonomous navigation of mobile robots. The prediction of a traversability map is a way to achieve this goal. However, this approach might fail if the prediction model is exposed to novel semantic classes unseen during self-supervised training or the environment is subject to highly dynamic motions of living and artificial entities. Included are pedestrians, animals, and vehicles that the robot can hardly handle. In this paper, we embrace this challenge by describing the development of a flexible human-robot teaming that leverages the shared control of the robot to accommodate critical situations and allow the human operator to be otherwise engaged. The operator can remotely perceive the surrounding and actively guide the robot as well as participatively share or leave full control to the robot that autonomously moves toward a desired common goal. A situation-aware control signal balances inputs from the motion planner of the autonomous robot and cognitive inputs from the remote operator issued by using affordable interfaces. The human-in-the-loop control is realized through a bidirectional wireless communication between the physical robot and its digital twin. The human-robot teaming enhances the likelihood of a safe and successful navigation under dynamic obstacles and enables a navigation without pre-defined goals. The conceptual architecture is introduced and preliminary results are shared. © 2024 IEEE.

Thermal stress is a critical failure factor for power electronics components. Hence, when developing a precise digital twin for a power system, it is imperative that thermal models provide a reliable portrayal of the component physics. In that regard, manufacturers offer simplified thermal models that enable designers and users to estimate its behaviour. Nevertheless, the accuracy of these models remains unknown, thus compromising the overall certainty of the digital twin. Therefore, it is of interest to discern whether these simplified models are sufficient for the precision required by the digital twin, and to assess the need of developing a more accurate model. Hence, this paper focuses on validating the theoretical thermal model of a power electronics switch module setup by using the deviation of the module mean time to failure (MTTF) as the acceptance parameter. To achieve this, a novel experimental validation methodology is proposed to retrieve an experimental thermal model and compare it to the theoretical one. This validation is performed considering the discrete thermal impedances and introducing the study of the coupling effects within the module. © 2024 IEEE.

Since the inception of the Internet and WWW, providing the time among multiple nodes on the Internet has been one of the most critical challenges. David Mills is the pioneer to provide time on the Internet, inventing the Network Time Protocol (NTP), and synchronizing the clocks in computer systems. Now, the NTP is predominantly used on the Internet and WWW. In this paper, we revisit the NTP, and present the overview of the NTP. In particular, we highlight the advanced research effort, the SpaceNTP, to synchronize the clocks among assets and entities in space. The SpaceNTP designed for space environments will be the fundamental medium and enabling block to provide the future web services in space. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

More people are relying on Cryptocurrencies, yet these currencies are not controlled by any central authority or governments. Bitcoin transactions’ anonymity facilitates money laundry activities by cyber-criminals. Traditional Anti-Money Laundering solutions, often rule-based, suffer from high false positive rates, leading to substantial operational costs. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms offers efficient analysis and identification of abnormal patterns in vast amounts of data;thus predicts suspicious transactions. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of four different ML algorithms in classifying Bitcoin transactions as either licit, or illicit transactions. The ML models were trained on the Elliptic dataset of Bitcoin transactions categorized into real entities belonging to licit and illicit categories [1]. The models were evaluated by the confusion matrix, accuracy, and features importance study. The experimental results proved that Random Forest (RF) and Extreme Gradient Booster (XGBoost) models achieved the highest accuracy of 95.1% and 95.6%, respectively. This indicates that RF and XGBoost models effectively managed the data’s complexity and accurately predicted suspicious transactions. ©2024 IEEE.

Chances of survival can be significantly improved through early detection of breast cancer. Traditional breast cancer detection techniques require experts to identify the physical features of breast tumors from medical tests. However, the limited number of medical experts will leave many women at risk of developing higher stages of cancer. Large amount of data can be efficiently analysed using Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to recognise abnormal patterns;thus providing an early detection tool for breast cancer. This paper examines the outcome of six distinct ML algorithms in classifying breast tumors to either benign tumor (B), or malignant tumor (M). The models of ML utilized Wisconsin Breast cancer dataset that contains 569 rows of data and 32 features for training. The models were evaluated by the ROC curve, the confusion matrix, precision, recall, accuracy, and F1 score values. The experimental results proved that SVM and KNN models achieved the highest accuracy of 98.24%, and F1 score of 98% for SVM and 99% for KNN. This indicates that SVM and KNN models handled the data’s complexity effectively and performed accurate prediction of breast tumor type. ©2024 IEEE.
