In the case of standalone houses, ensuring a continuous and regulated power supply from renewable sources is crucial. To address their unpredictable nature, an environmentally conscious hybrid renewable energy system combining photovoltaic panels, a battery, and a Diesel generator is considered. A software application simulates the power flow in a standalone house with common AC loads, analysing summer and winter scenarios over 24 hours. The strategy employed provides an optimal energy management by using the Diesel generator only during peak demand when PV is available and to cover loads and maintain battery life when PV is not in operation. The simulation results provide valuable insights for designing such hybrid energy systems and for enhancing system responsiveness to dynamic energy demands. © 2024 IEEE.

A collaborative search engine is used for a group of users who want to search information together for various group activities. This will be time saving as the users can split the work between them. Summarization is the process of condensing a document into a shorter version which will contain the important details about the document. This will be useful to quickly get the main ideas without having to go through the entire document. Our main aim is to combine collaborative search with document summarization so that it will be helpful when users in a group want to quickly read the summary of the documents whenever required. In the collaborative search, the results will be re-ranked based on the user's interaction with the system, so that feedback driven ranking of results is attained and the users in a session will be able to view pages that were even ranked by their co-mates. This re-raking process is done by obtaining the user's interest on a particular page using decision logic and updating it in the priority queue. User's meta-data like page size, click-through rate, time spent and scrolling speed of the document will be calculated and these will be used as parameters for the decision logic to find the interest level of the user. Extractive summarization is implemented with the concept of Maximum Independent Set. The raw text document is first converted into a graph having its sentences as nodes and the edge weight is the similar instances between sentences. Then graph MIS is identified and removed after which the top-n sentences are fetched upon its eigenvector centrality value and the summary is generated. © 2024 IEEE.

Leveraging Ensemble Model and Optimized Feature Selection to Boost Prediction Accuracy in Educational Data Mining

In contemporary research, educational data mining (EDM) has become a captivating field for data mining and machine learning experts, focusing on identifying factors influencing students' academic performance and predicting the likelihood of students dropping out. To uncover these influential factors, feature selection methods are employed, while various machine learning models are used to predict students at risk of underperforming. Filter-based feature selection methods are commonly used in educational data mining due to their efficiency and ability to rank important features affecting academic success. However, because of their independence from classifiers and relying on a fixed threshold or predefined feature count, filter-based methods can sometimes negatively affect model performance. To address this, the present study introduces an optimized chi-square-based feature selection technique that dynamically selects the optimal features for each learning algorithm, ensuring that model performance is not compromised. The effectiveness of five classifiers—k-Nearest Neighbour (k-NN), Decision Tree (DT), Naïve Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Logistic Regression (LR)—has been evaluated using three configurations: no feature selection, traditional chi-square feature selection, and proposed optimized chi-square based feature selection. These evaluations were conducted on two distinct student datasets, one from secondary schools (DS1) and another from engineering institutions (DS2). The results demonstrated that the optimized chi-square method consistently improved prediction accuracy across all classifiers. Additionally, a bagging-based ensemble classifier, constructed using the best-performing individual classifier, further enhanced predictive performance. The highest accuracies achieved were 94.62% for DS1 and 96.36% for DS2, outperforming traditional feature selection and ensemble methods. Preservation of the crops depends on early and accurate detection of pests on crops as they cause several diseases decreasing crop production and quality. Several deep-learning techniques have been applied to overcome the issue of pest detection on crops. We have developed the YOLOCSP-PEST model for Pest localization and classification. With the Cross Stage Partial Network (CSPNET) backbone, the proposed model is a modified version of You Only Look Once Version 7 (YOLOv7) that is intended primarily for pest localization and classification. Our proposed model gives exceptionally good results under conditions that are very challenging for any other comparable models especially conditions where we have issues with the luminance and the orientation of the images. It helps farmers working out on their crops in distant areas to determine any infestation quickly and accurately on their crops which helps in the quality and quantity of the production yield. The model has been trained and tested on 2 datasets namely the IP102 data set and a local crop data set on both of which it has shown exceptional results. It gave us a mean average precision (mAP) of 88.40% along with a precision of 85.55% and a recall of 84.25% on the IP102 dataset meanwhile giving a mAP of 97.18% on the local data set along with a recall of 94.88% and a precision of 97.50%. These findings demonstrate that the proposed model is very effective in detecting real-life scenarios and can help in the production of crops improving the yield quality and quantity at the same time.

Nowadays, health issues play a tremendous role in day-to-day life and the medical expenditure to get treatment becomes more difficult for the ordinary people. Health insurance has become a vital aspect of people's lives. In this massive community, to access healthcare services such as insurance policies, LIC, ICICI, HDFC ERGO, Star Healthcare are benefits for claiming an amount for their medical expenses. The dataset encompasses three categories, such as generalized data, hospitalized data and claim data. Each record in the dataset represents an individual’s health insurance charges along with corresponding demographic and health-related characteristics. In this paper, Machine Learning techniques are used to group the claim amount that has been adopted by the individuals based on the hospitalized expenditure and insurance charges paid by the individuals. In the health sector, machine learning techniques are used to forecast insurance claims by building predictive models from historical data on claims, patient demographics, treatment types, and results. By predicting future claims based on trends seen in the data, these models help insurance firms better manage risk and allocate resources. In case of a fresher to this concept, it feels challenging to understand whereas generating as a pattern can be more flexible to acquire knowledge about how much amount has been claimed. © 2025 IEEE.

This review paper investigates the advances of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of email spam detection. The study addresses AI-based techniques used for email spam filtering by classifying threats such as keywords, content-based, sender IDs, and phrases. Email spam remains one of the most pressing issues today, with spammers sending malicious links in junk folders to compromise confidential information. As spam filtering becomes increasingly complex, AI and machine learning techniques like Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Random Forest are commonly used to mitigate these threats. This study proposes a novel framework that combines traditional machine learning models with deep neural networks to develop a robust and flexible spam detection system. The framework is designed to enhance the detection capabilities of the classifier by applying a series of key sequential steps, each intended to improve the system's ability to distinguish between legitimate emails and spam. The paper details the methodology, providing a step-by-step explanation of each phase to demonstrate how the framework advances email spam detection. © 2024 IEEE.

Skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer globally,primarily due to extensive exposure to Ultraviolet(UV)*** identification of skin cancer enhances the likelihood of effective treatment,as delays may lead to severe tumor *** study proposes a novel hybrid deep learning strategy to address the complex issue of skin cancer diagnosis,with an architecture that integrates a Vision Transformer,a bespoke convolutional neural network(CNN),and an Xception *** were evaluated using two benchmark datasets,HAM10000 and Skin Cancer *** the HAM10000,the model achieves a precision of 95.46%,an accuracy of 96.74%,a recall of 96.27%,specificity of 96.00%and an F1-Score of 95.86%.It obtains an accuracy of 93.19%,a precision of 93.25%,a recall of 92.80%,a specificity of 92.89%and an F1-Score of 93.19%on the Skin Cancer ISIC *** findings demonstrate that the model that was proposed is robust and trustworthy when it comes to the classification of skin *** addition,the utilization of Explainable AI techniques,such as Grad-CAM visualizations,assists in highlighting the most significant lesion areas that have an impact on the decisions that are made by the model.

Scanning microscopy systems, such as confocal and multiphoton microscopy, are powerful imaging tools for probing deep into biological tissue. However, scanning systems have an inherent trade-off between acquisition time, field of view, phototoxicity, and image quality. This often results in noisy measurements when fast, large field of view, and/or gentle imaging is needed. Deep learning could be used to denoise noisy microscopy measurements, but these algorithms can be prone to hallucination, which can be disastrous for medical and scientific applications. We propose a method to simultaneously denoise and predict pixel-wise uncertainty for scanning microscopy systems, improving algorithm trustworthiness and providing statistical guarantees for deep learning predictions. Furthermore, we propose to leverage this learned, pixel-wise uncertainty to drive an adaptive acquisition technique that rescans only the most uncertain regions of a sample, saving time and reducing the total light dose to the sample. We demonstrate our method on experimental confocal and multiphoton microscopy systems, showing that our uncertainty maps can pinpoint hallucinations in the deep learned predictions. Finally, with our adaptive acquisition technique, we demonstrate up to 16× reduction in acquisition time and total light dose while successfully recovering fine features in the sample and reducing hallucinations. We are the first to demonstrate distribution-free uncertainty quantification for a denoising task with real experimental data and the first to propose adaptive acquisition based on reconstruction uncertainty. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Swallowing is a pivotal physiological function for human sustenance and hydration. Dysfunctions, termed dysphagia, necessitate prompt and precise diagnosis. Videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS) remain the gold standard for swallowing assessment but pose accessibility and radiation exposure concerns. High-resolution cervical auscultation (HRCA) presents a non-invasive alternative with comparable accuracy. Yet, existing studies have only assessed HRCA in tandem with VFSS, without applying it to clinical settings. We propose an AI-enhanced PC software deploying HRCA for real-time bedside swallowing screening. This software proficiently detects abnormalities and precisely measures key kinematic events, including upper esophageal sphincter opening and laryngeal vestibule closure duration. The system was evaluated through two studies, encompassing a VFSS comparative analysis and a usability study. Our findings underscored the software's superior operational efficiency and diagnostic accuracy, positioning our HRCA-based system as a refined and pragmatic alternative for dysphagia assessment. © 2024 IEEE.
