Aiming at achieving robust control of an Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) system and based on an H∞ loop-shaping algorithm, this paper proposes a multi-objective optimization framework to ensure an optimal performance. Three objectives and constraints related to the H∞ loop-shaping design and singular structured value are defined to optimize the robust stability and robust performance. A time-domain objective, that is Integral of Time-weighted Squared Error (ITSE), is presented to achieve optimal transient response with low overshoot and zero steady-state error. Then an evolutionary multi-objective algorithm is presented as a computational method to search for a set of non-dominated H∞ loop-shaping controllers automatically. Experimental results verify the optimality of the designed method. © 2014 IEEE.

Capacitive power transfer (CPT) method has been proposed recently as an alternative to inductive power transfer (IPT) for wireless/contactless power transfer. Unlike IPT, which uses magnetic fields as medium for power transfer, CPT is based on electric field coupling. Power transfer using CPT offers significant advantages such as low standing power loss, low electromagnetic interference (EMI), and the ability to transfer power through metal objects, etc. However, due to the very low permittivity of the air, the effective coupling capacitance between the primary and the secondary pick-up is very small (only at picofarads to nanofarads level), which limits the maximum power capability that a CPT system can achieve. To overcome such a limitation, high frequency operation is desirable to increase the power transfer capability with a given coupling condition. With fast development of power electronics over the past decades it is possible to increase the operating frequency from kHz to MHz level without compromising much on power efficiency of the system. This paper presents a comparison between two converters which are suitable for high frequency operation of CPT systems. One is an autonomous current-fed push-pull converter, and the other is a class E converter. Both converters can achieve MHz level frequency operation, but their operating principles are different. The key features of these two converters are summarized in this research, and the performance of CPT systems based on both converters are analyzed and evaluated. © 2014 IEEE.

The performance of an ad-hoc network is greatly limited by collisions due to hidden terminals. In this paper, we propose a receiver tracking contention (RTC) scheme, which achieves high throughput by allowing the receivers to assist for channel contention. In RTC, link is the basic unit for channel access contention. Specifically, transmitter is used to contend for the channel and receiver is used to announce the potential collision. Based on INT message coding scheme, transmitter and its corresponding receiver can be well coordinated. In such mechanism, hidden terminals are avoided and exposed terminals are encouraged to transmit simultaneously. Based on OFDM modulation, RTC packets several subcarriers as subcontention unit and operates channel contention over multiple subcontention units. Furthermore, each subcontention unit maintains a transmission set, where collision-free links are allowed to merged into the transmission set In this case, the transmission set of subcontention unit can be aggregated after each contention period. When the subcontention unit i is the smallest index of non-empty subcontention unit, the transmission set of unit i will win the channel contention and transmitters of unit i will start to transmit in the following data transmission period. Analysis and simulation results show that RTC achieves a notable throughput gain over Back2f as high as 190% through simulation.

This paper develops a new multiple-model based adaptive control scheme to compensate actuation sign uncertainty, which employs three steps: (1) design multiple estimators;(2) design multiple controllers using an error transformation relating to the output tracking error, the estimation error, and a virtual tracking error between the estimator state and the reference signal;and (3) design a control switching mechanism to select the most appropriate controller to generate the applied control signal. Such a control scheme is first deigned for single-degree of freedom bodies with a control gain that is unknown in both sign and magnitude, to introduce and illustrate this approach. Then, the full scheme is developed for three-axis rigid microsatellites with unknown inertia parameters and uncertain actuation signs. The proposed multiple-model based adaptive control scheme ensures the desired system stability and asymptotic tracking properties. Simulation results verify its effectiveness.

Biological features, such as, genes, transcription factor binding sites, SNPs, etc., are usually denoted with genome-based coordinates as the genomic features. While genome-based representation is usually very effective, it can be tedious to examine the distribution of RNA-related genomic features on RNA transcripts with existing tools due to the conversion and comparison between genome-based coordinates to RNA-based coordinates. We developed here an open source R package Travis for sketching the transcriptomic view of genomic features so as to facilitate the analysis of RNA-related but genome-based coordinates. Internally, Travis package extracts the coordinates relative to the landmarks of transcripts, with which the distribution of RNA-related genomic features can then be conveniently analyzed. We demonstrated the usage of Travis package in analyzing post-transcriptional RNA modifications (5-MethylCytosine and N6-MethylAdenosine) derived from high-throughput sequencing approaches (MeRIP-Seq and RNA BS-Seq). As brain imaging data such as fMRI is growing explosively, how to reduce its size but not to lose much information becomes a pressing problem. To address this problem, this work aims to represent resting state fMRI (rs-fMRI) signals of a whole brain via a statistical sampling based sparse representation. Specifically, we improve the online dictionary learning and sparse coding algorithm by adding a sampling step before the whole-brain sparse representation. Our comparison experiments demonstrated that this sampling-enabled sparse representation method can speedup by ten times without losing much information. In particular, our results showed that anatomical landmark-guided sampling is substantially better than statistical random sampling in reconstructing concurrent functional brain networks from the Human Connectome Project (HCP) rs-fMRI data.

Text mining is a combination of data mining technology and text. It refers to the extraction of interest or knowledge or information from the data file on the server. The most common is web text mining. Its essence is that The contents of the document, available resources and the relationships between resources are analyzed, and what we want is to be found. This paper designs and implements an algorithm of hierarchical processing. When the characteristics of the original text are extracted and classified, a level of importance is given, so that the system can automatically perform feature selection and feature weight estimation. Experiments show that this new feature weighting method and hierarchical processing algorithm is correct and feasible.

The concept of Cyber-Physical Systems （CPSs）, which combine computation, networking, and physical processes, is considered to be beneficial to smart grid applications. This study presents an integrated simulation environment to provide a unified platform for the investigation of smart grid applications involving power grid monitoring, communication, and control. In contrast to the existing approaches, this environment allows the network simulator to operate independently, importing its results to the power system simulation. This resolves conflicts between discrete event simulation and continuous simulation. In addition, several data compensation methods are proposed and investigated under different network delay conditions. A case study of wide-area monitoring and control is provided, and the efficiency of the proposed simulation framework has been evaluated based on the experimental results.
