Surrogate models, which have become an effective and popular method to close loop reservoir management problems, use a data-driven approach to predict dynamic injection and production wells parameters and optimize waterflooding development. In this study, a deep learning-based surrogate model method is proposed to estimate bottomhole pressure (BHP) of production wells in waterflooding reservoirs. Bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) network, as an efficient deep learning approach, is applied to BHP estimation using fluctuation data. Extended Fourier amplitude sensitivity test (EFAST) method is employed to analyse the influence of different input factors on BHP dynamics, and a reduced dataset is rebuilt to predict BHP parameter based on BiLSTM-EFAST algorithm. The estimation results are tested on a dataset from Volve oilfield in North Sea, and compared with other deep learning methods. The test results indicate that the proposed method can achieve higher prediction accuracy. A reduced dataset-based approach provides a new attempt to reduce model complexity and improve calculation speed for big data-driven surrogate model in oil and gas industry. © 2023 IEEE.

Accurately finding proteins and genes that have a certain function is the prerequisite for a broad range of biomedical applications. Despite the encouraging progress of existing computational approaches in protein function prediction, it remains challenging to annotate proteins to a novel function that is not collected in the Gene Ontology and does not have any annotated proteins. This limitation, a "side effect" from the widely-used multi-label classification problem setting of protein function prediction, hampers the progress of studying new pathways and biological processes, and further slows down research in various biomedical areas. Here, we tackle this problem by annotating proteins to a function only based on its textual description so that we don’t need to know any associated proteins for this function. The key idea of our method ProTranslator is to redefine protein function prediction as a machine translation problem, which translates the description word sequence of a function to the amino acid sequence of a protein. We can then transfer annotations from functions that have similar textual description to annotate a novel function. We observed substantial improvement in annotating novel functions and sparsely annotated functions on CAFA3, SwissProt and GOA datasets. We further demonstrated how our method accurately predicted gene members for a given pathway in Reactome, KEGG and MSigDB only based on the pathway description. Finally, we showed how ProTranslator enabled us to generate the textual description instead of the function label for a set of proteins, providing a new scheme for protein function prediction. We envision ProTranslator will give rise to a protein function "search engine" that returns a list of proteins based on the free text queried by the user. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Human-computer interaction (HCI) relies on understanding and adapting to users' emotional states. Micro-expressions (MEs), a critical component of emotional perception, are characterized by their spontaneity, rapidity, subtlety, and difficulty to control. They often reveal an individual's true emotions. A comprehensive and detailed representation of motion is necessary to capture the nuances of facial dynamics effectively. Presently, motion representation methods are predominantly confined to 2D analysis within RGB images, overlooking the critical role of facial structure and its movements in conveying emotions. To overcome this limitation, we introduce an innovative facial motion representation that encompasses 3D facial structure, regionalized RGB and structural motion features. Furthermore, we segment the face into eight distinct regions, selecting only the most significant motion points to delineate the primary motion characteristics of each area. To model the interactions among crucial facial motion regions, we employ an advanced, lightweight point cloud and graph convolution network (Lite-Point-GCN). Comprehensive testing on the CAS(ME)3 dataset, using leave-one-subject-out (LOSO), demonstrates that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

The security of data has become a top priority in today’s world. An insecure communication network makes data transmission even more challenging. Cryptography can be an effective tool to secure information and ensure the security and confidentiality of information. In cryptography encryption and decryption methods determine communication security, with key sharing. The main purpose of key exchange methods is to provide protection for technology and are not dependent on communication channel security. Encryption and decryption methods determine the transaction security with key sharing. The present work is a new method for generating keys for multi-party communications using a quasi-group approach. A methodology for generating a master key from an unordered value gap was proposed in this work using a quasi-group of order n. The algorithms to generate and renew multiple subkeys from the master key and vice versa are proposed. Additionally, the proposed methods are based on a Modified Secure IDEA (MS-IDEA) algorithm for encryption and decryption using a 256-bit key. Unmanned aerial systems provide many applications with the ability to perform flying tasks autonomously,and hence have received significant research and commercial attention in the past *** of the most popular unmanned aerial platforms for such tasks is the small-scale rotorcraft with multiple rotors,commonly known as *** order for these platforms to perform fully autonomous missions and tasks,they require a sophisticated low-level flight control system that is integrated with advanced task and motion planning modules,which combine together to form the complete unmanned aerial system(UAS).In this paper,the planning module of unmanned multicopter systems is discussed in detail,and a comprehensive survey on techniques for both motion and task planning reported in literature and by the Unmanned Systems Research Group at the National University of Singapore is presented.

Owing to the high complexity of chip architecture and assay protocol, considerable effort has been directed toward the design automation of continuous-flow microfluidics over the past decade. Existing methods, however, perform the corresponding design tasks, including binding, scheduling, placement, and routing separately, leading to serious gaps between different steps and potentially even cause design failure. To overcome these drawbacks, in this article, we propose a one-pass design paradigm for continuous-flow microfluidic lab-on-a-chip systems, integrating all the design steps into an 'organic whole,' which has never been considered in prior work. With the proposed paradigm, all the design tasks can be synchronized seamlessly and performed in a combined manner, thereby eliminating the gaps between design steps. Consequently, optimized biochip architectures can be generated without any design adjustments and modifications. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed automation flows. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

This publication deals with the robust attitude stabilization of a quadrotor subject to stealthy actuator attacks. Based first on the nonlinear model of the system, the sector non-linearity approach will be applied in order to deduce a polytopic Takagi-sugeno model. In parallel, a polytopic fuzzy T-S modeling of the data-deception malicious attacks (time-varying parameters) is presented. After some mathematical development, it will be shown that our original nonlinear system subject to stealthy actuator attacks can be represented as an uncertain polytopic T-S system. Based on this latest model, basic concepts for attitude stabilization will be used to implement the control law. The stabilization conditions will be given in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) deduced from a classical Lyapunov approach. In order to highlight the efficiency of the proposed approach, simulation results will be given. © 2022 IEEE.

In today's society, finding a suitable career is crucial. High school students frequently need to fully understand the notion of labor due to a lack of experience and practical knowledge in various disciplines. This renders students particularly vulnerable to external influences while deciding on a career path. As a result, students must carefully consider high-paying careers to ensure that they align with their interests and skills. Otherwise, students may end up in jobs they dislike or are not suited to. In response to this issue, we intend to develop a machine-learning framework capable of predicting career pathways. Students will receive career recommendation from our model based on their performance and potential. Students can confidently follow their chosen fields if they do well academically; if not, they can choose to change to other fields that better suit them. There are challenges in determining the metrics and improving prediction accuracy to quantify students' career paths and performance in teaching-learning. Best on the test results, the proposed model has a higher prediction accuracy. Also, this method is both reliable and portable, and it may be used to predict career paths in real time.

Inducing Individual Students’ Learning Strategies through Homomorphic POMDPs

Optimizing students’ learning strategies is a crucial component in intelligent tutoring systems. Previous research has demonstrated the effectiveness of devising personalized learning strategies for students by modelling their learning processes through partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP). However, the research holds the assumption that the student population adheres to a uniform cognitive pattern. While this assumption simplifies the POMDP modelling process, it evidently deviates from a real-world scenario, thus reducing the precision of inducing individual students’ learning strategies. In this article, we propose the homomorphic POMDP (H-POMDP) model to accommodate multiple cognitive patterns and present the parameter learning approach to automatically construct the H-POMDP model. Based on the H-POMDP model, we are able to represent different cognitive patterns from the data and induce more personalized learning strategies for individual students. We conduct experiments to show that, in comparison to the general POMDP approach, the H-POMDP model demonstrates better precision when modelling mixed data from multiple cognitive patterns. Moreover, the learning strategies derived from H-POMDPs exhibit better personalization in the performance evaluation. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
