In this paper, a new effective and reliable objective video evaluation model is proposed based on fuzzy synthetic judgment. Firstly, the essential design of the model is described systemically. Then the fuzzy membership functions of all factors which affect compressed video quality are determined. And the factor weights are also estimated by approximate algorithm. This model highlights a comprehensive evaluation by taking account of multiple properties of the compressed video which affect the whole video sequence, such as quality, fluency and motion info. On the other side, this model has well capability of compatibility with other evaluation models or standards. Simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the fuzzy objective video quality evaluation model especially in comprehensive judgment of the whole video. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

We propose a method for the sharing of capacity among zones of a communication network. Our approach can be employed either when a zone owner wishes to sell capacity for a specified period of time to a number of different zones, or when zones cooperate to build a network to be shared among themselves. We show how load balancing can be performed to mediate between rapidly fluctuating costs and the capacity of zone, which might be traded. Depending on the density of the zone, an important property of the process is that it, prevents zone from congestion. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper gives an overview of the work carried out during the course of the COST-266 action on circuit/wavelength switched network studies. Several subjects are discussed in detail in this paper. A first important topic deals with the different control plane models in single- and multidomain networks. A second important issue is the routing and wavelength assignment problem, both in networks with static and dynamic traffic demands. Also the IP-over-OTN network architecture, envisaged to be the network architecture most suited for future transport networks, is discussed. Finally the study on optical virtual private networks is presented.

In this paper, the problem of automatically mapping large-grain dataflow programs onto heterogeneous hardware/software architectures is treated. Starting with a given hardware/software partition, interfaces are automatically inserted into the specification to account for communication, in particular across hardware/software boundaries. Depending on the target architecture, the interfaces are refined according to given communication constraints (bus protocols, memory mapping, interrupts, DMA, etc.). An object-oriented approach is presented that enables an easy migration (retargeting) of typical communication primitives to other target architectures.
