Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) is a promising technology that has received much attention for indoor localization in recent years. This technology can control the propagation environment by passively changing reflected signals. Many RIS-based systems need complex operations for the RIS configuration. Also, fingerprint-based indoor localization methods need several access points to create different fingerprints for nearby areas. In this paper, we present a fingerprint-based indoor localization system using RIS. We conFigure RIS, change its configuration repeatedly, and create a vector for each fingerprint. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can accurately localize users with a single access point. Moreover, it is shown that some parameters such as the number of reference points, the number of RIS elements, and the number of RIS configurations significantly affect localization accuracy. In contrast, the results are independent of RIS location. © 2022 IEEE.

Graph Neural Network based Active and Passive Beamforming for Distributed STAR-RIS-Assisted Multi-User MISO Systems

This paper investigates a joint active and passive beamforming design for distributed simultaneous transmitting and reflecting (STAR) reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted multi-user (MU)- mutiple input single output (MISO) systems, where the energy splitting (ES) mode is considered for the STAR-RIS. We aim to design the active beamforming vectors at the base station (BS) and the passive beamforming at the STAR-RIS to maximize the user sum rate under transmitting power constraints. The formulated problem is non-convex and nontrivial to obtain the global optimum due to the coupling between active beamforming vectors and STAR-RIS phase shifts. To efficiently solve the problem, we propose a novel graph neural network (GNN)-based framework. Specifically, we first model the interactions among users and network entities using a heterogeneous graph representation. A heterogeneous graph neural network (HGNN) implementation is then introduced to directly optimizes beamforming vectors and STAR-RIS coefficients with the system objective. Numerical results show that the proposed approach yields efficient performance compared to the previous benchmarks. Furthermore, the proposed GNN is scalable with various system configurations. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Spatial modulation (SM) is a promising solution for simplifying multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) capabilities in wireless communication systems. In this study, we compare SM with Vertical Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) systems in Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. Using our proposed fair comparison methodology, the performance of both systems is explored in various system configurations in fading channels. The study reveals that SM has distinct advantages in low-rate scenarios due to its unique antenna index modulation, while V-BLAST performs better in higher transmission rates and rich scattering environments. Furthermore, the performance of SM improves with increasing the number of receive antennas, while V-BLAST performance is influenced by the transmit-to-receive antenna ratio. These findings provide valuable insights into the capabilities and limitations of each technique, offering a more informed assessment of the capabilities of SM.

While software metrics are indispensable for quality assurance, using metrics in practice is complicated. Quality, productivity, speed, and efficiency are important factors to be considered in software development (Holmstrom et al. 2006;Svensson 2005). Measuring correct metrics and using them in the right and transparent way contributes to pushing development in a desirable direction, leading to achieving projected goals and outcomes (Staron and Meding 2018). On the other hand, tracking the wrong metrics, and failing to interpret and communicate them properly results in a stressful work environment, conflicts, distrust, lower engagement, and decreased productivity (de Sá Leitão Júnior 2018;Ellis et al. 1991;Staron 2012). To ensure proper and effective use of metrics in organizations, successful communication around metrics is essential (Lindström et al. 2021;Post et al. 2002;Staron and Meding 2015). The purpose of this study is to understand and improve communication about metrics in contexts of contemporary software development practice in organizations. This is achieved by identifying the bottlenecks in the process of communication around metrics and how to overcome them in practice. Drawing on 38 semi-structured interviews and interactive workshops with metrics teams members and stakeholders from three organizations, we identify three interrelated challenges including limited knowledge about metrics and lack of terminology, uncoordinated use of multiple communication channels, and sensitivity of metrics, which influence workplace communication, trust, and performance. Our study shows the importance of developing metrics terminology to ensure the development of a shared understanding of metrics. The integrated mutual injection laser consists of a front section laser (FSL), a phase-section laser and a rear section laser (RSL). By adjusting the current of the two DFB lasers, the cavity modes of the FSL and RSL coexist in a period-one (P1) state, and the integrated laser is a dual-mode output. The beat frequency (fLO) can be obtained as the optical local oscillator (LO) frequency. When the linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal is directly modulated onto the front section laser of the integrated laser, after passing through the photodetector, the two main oscillation modes will beat with the first-order optical modulation sideband of the other mode, thereby generating the new frequency signals (fLO±fLFM). When the fundamental frequency signal or fLO is tuned, a double chirp signal with opposite chirp rate can be generated in different frequency ranges. In the simulation experiment demonstration, DCMWs in the frequency range of 11~17 GHz and 5~9 GHz are obtained respectively, and the corresponding time bandwidth product (TBWP) reaches 800. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) can reach 0.272 ns, and the peak sidelobe ratio (PSR) can reach 21.45 dB. The scheme is beneficial to further enrich the transmitting frequency band of radar detection signal. The principle is simple, the integration is high, the operation is convenient, and the frequency is adjustable. © 2023 SPIE.

In order to understand the nuances of the crime data from recent years, in-depth analysis is necessary. Involved parties in law enforcement will benefit from this procedure in terms of making arrests and guiding efforts to reduce crime. Strategically or tactically, it benefits from having a better understanding of where, when, and how crimes will occur in the future. However, given the rising incidence of crime in the modern world, developing an effective method for predicting future criminal behavior is a difficult issue. As a result, it is crucial to develop a strategy for predicting criminal activity in order to prevent further crimes and lower crime rates. Researchers are currently attempting to predict criminal behavior based on a variety of factors. SVM, CNN and ANN are just few of the prediction approaches that can be used to assess a model's accuracy. Although their studies have yielded encouraging findings, there are still major blind spots that preclude an accurate prediction of crime hubs. There have been many earlier publications of academic papers on this subject. So, the results are compiled and conducted a comprehensive assessment of all of them in this report. Proposed goal is to catalog the various forms the crime prediction method has taken and the ways in which it might be improved in the future. Preprocessing, feature extraction, and model training are the three main components of the proposed method. Preprocessing includes activities including data cleansing, integration, transformation, reduction, and discretization. It uses principal component analysis to glean features. The model is trained with IGWO-SVM. When compared to two existing models, the proposed model performs exceptionally well. © 2023 IEEE.

Space-Efficient Online Computation of String Net Occurrences

A substring u of a string T is said to be a repeat if u occurs at least twice in T. An occurrence [i..j] of a repeat u in T is said to be a net occurrence if each of the substrings aub = T[i− 1..j + 1], au = T[i− 1..j + 1], and ub = T[i..j + 1] occurs exactly once in T. The occurrence [i− 1..j + 1] of aub is said to be an extended net occurrence of u. Let T be an input string of length n over an alphabet of size σ, and let ENO(T) denote the set of extended net occurrences of repeats in T. Guo et al. [SPIRE 2024] presented an online algorithm which can report ENO(T[1..i]) in T[1..i] in O(nσ2) time, for each prefix T[1..i] of T. Very recently, Inenaga [arXiv 2024] gave a faster online algorithm that can report ENO(T[1..i]) in optimal O(#ENO(T[1..i])) time for each prefix T[1..i] of T, where #S denotes the cardinality of a set S. Both of the aforementioned data structures can be maintained in O(nlog σ) time and occupy O(n) space, where the O(n)-space requirement comes from the suffix tree data structure. In particular, Inenaga’s recent algorithm is based on Weiner’s right-to-left online suffix tree construction. In this paper, we show that one can modify Ukkonen’s left-to-right online suffix tree construction algorithm in O(n) space, so that ENO(T[1..i]) can be reported in optimal O(#ENO(T[1..i])) time for each prefix T[1..i] of T. This is an improvement over Guo et al.’s method that is also based on Ukkonen’s algorithm. Further, this leads us to the two following space-efficient alternatives: A sliding-window algorithm of O(d) working space that can report ENO(T[i−d+1..i]) in optimal O(#ENO(T[i− d+ 1..i])) time for each sliding window T[i− d+ 1..i] of size d in T. Currently, intelligent drone technology is seeing significant growth in all sectors, especially within the military sector. In this paper, we use blockchain technology via the Hyperledger Fabric (HLF) platform to enhance security and flexibility in dynamic mission problems related to the Internet of Drones (IoD) systems. Blockchain technology adds many security features to our network applications, such as decentralization and immutability, data integrity and transparency, secure and immutable communication, identity and access management, audibility, and traceability. In addition, we integrated HLF into a Kubernetes cluster to improve the scalability and availability of a cluster-based IoD paradigm. API is used to register drones in a specific cluster to add data or participate in an exciting mission. Significantly, our proposed chaincode that governs these interactions is adaptable, allowing for immediate modifications to the arrangement of drones inside the assigned clusters. Moreover, on-chain and off-chain databases hold essential information to prevent large data storage within the ledger itself.
