The transition to vehicle electrification introduces new demands on chassis dynamics, paving the way for advances in driving dynamics, safety, and efficiency. A key consideration arises: how are driving torque impulses converted in electric vehicles with multiple power sources? This study introduces a novel approach to address these demands through the integration of state-of-the-art yaw control, using concurrent front/rear axle and front right/front left torque distribution based on the wheel speed balance control concept. Our aim is not necessarily to demonstrate the supremacy of our approach, but rather to present a fresh philosophical perspective on the problem of yaw control in electric vehicles. Our method embodies dynamic load transfer and axle dynamics into the yaw control problem formulation, setting it apart from current methodologies. Through experimental results, we illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach regardless of road surface conditions.

Bilateral teleoperation systems have become essential for enabling precise remote manipulation in fields such as robotic surgery and hazardous material handling. However, these systems face significant challenges, including time delays, environmental uncertainties, and nonlinear dynamics, which can affect their stability and performance. This research aims to investigate the application of Active Disturbance Rejection control (ADRC) to address these challenges. ADRC is chosen for its real-time estimation and compensation for disturbances, even with limited knowledge of the system model. Additionally, the study incorporates enhancements such as Fractional-Order control and optimization techniques, including Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), for parameter tuning. A simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the proposed controller in tracking control of bilateral teleoperation systems with 3-DOF and 4-DOF manipulators. Results illustrate the superiority of the fractional order ADRC in disturbance rejection and trajectory tracking compared to linear ADRC, making it a promising solution for teleoperation applications.

Rate-Splitting Multiple Access (RSMA) has recently emerged as an effective technique for increasing network capacity by smartly controlling the tradeoff between decoding and treating interference as noise. In this paper, aligned with the need for sustainable wireless networks, we study the energy-efficient power and rate allocation of the common and private messages in the downlink of a network where rate-splitting is adopted. The corresponding energy efficiency maximization problem is transformed into a multi-agent Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) problem, based on which each private stream transmitted in the downlink constitutes a different DRL agent. The formulated DRL problem is solved by using Deep Q-Learning (DQL) algorithm and training a single Deep Q-Network (DQN) from the cumulative experiences gained from the DRL agents and their exploration of the environment, i.e., the exploration of different private-message power allocations. Numerical results obtained via modeling and simulation verify the effectiveness of the proposed DQL algorithm, demonstrating that it concludes solutions that outperform existing approaches from the literature in the achieved energy efficiency.

In this research study, we present a novel design of a four-fingered robotic hand for T-FLoW 4.0 humanoid robot along with its experiments to validate its grasping performance. Our proposed robotic hand designed with four fingers and five Degree-of-Freedom (DoF), with a configuration of a thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers to remain within the criteria of an anthropomorphic type robot hand. Our hand is built with a modular design on each finger and its mechanism, allowing for easy assembly and achieving a compact hand result. Main controller Arduino Mega implement the system for grasping movement, and then PCA9685 PWM controller get the hand movement instructions from it and generates the required PWM signal for the servo motors. The process of manufacturing the hand involves 3D printing technology to produce hands with a realistic appearance, and use PLA filament material achieve lightweight, affordable, and easy-to-maintain outcomes. The grasping experimental results show that our proposed robotic hand could perform basic grasping movements on household objects. With the use of Cini’s taxonomy of grasp as the hand functionality standard, we achieved a success rate of 8 out of 14 tests conducted.

The Electrical engineering undergraduate program of the Escola Politécnica of the Universidade de São Paulo has created an alternative innovative curriculum path for its freshmen students in 2024. The Competency-based Path emphasizes the development of competencies and skills for the unprecedented technological advancements that necessitate a holistic education for future electrical engineers, preparing them with practical skills for real-world challenges. The program was designed using an innovative methodology and centers around semester-long or year-long integrative projects. A parallel consequent pole PM-assisted 2-layer subharmonic machine consisting of dual inverter topology is proposed here, which is designed to enhance torque generation and control compared to its predecessors. The stator of the sub-harmonic synchronous machine has two sets of 3-phase windings, and the dual inverter supplies current to them separately. Similarly, the rotor has two concentric windings, one for field excitation and the other for harmonic excitation. To validate the proposed model, an 8-pole, 48-slot, 2-inverter, 2-layer sub-harmonic machine is designed and simulated through 2-D finite element analysis. The results show a better torque and performance than the subharmonic and wound field synchronous machines.

Network Virtualization (NV) has proved a promising technology that allows multiple heterogeneous Virtual Networks (VNs) to operate simultaneously on the same infrastructure. Dynamic Virtual Network Embedding (NVE) has emerged as an enabler of elasticity and scalability in the VN deployment and resource allocation of the physical infrastructure. However, the key challenge in realizing NV in a sustainable way is how to dynamically embed VNs efficiently into physical network, which is defined as the VNE problem. To address this challenge, this paper proposes an approach that leverages Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) to solve the dynamic VNE of VNs for 5G/6G communication systems. The proposed framework consists of multiple horizontally distributed RL agents that co-operate to devise temporally dynamic VNE placements. The key contributions of this work are introducing a novel dynamic VNE orchestration framework for multi-domain networks based on Distributed RL, providing a scalable VNE framework targeted to Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) services, evaluating and comparing the proposed algorithm with existing solutions in the state of the art. The paper concludes that there is a significant improvement in latency of 144.191% when compared to the baselines.

Nowadays, photonic analog computing in the form of neuromorphic photonics or photonic neural networks has resulted in powerful hardware platforms that accelerate difficult tasks with marginal power consumption. Although linear transformations are efficiently carried out in the optical domain, nonlinear transformations are also of paramount importance. Here, we propose four wave mixing (FWM) process as an elegant solution for the generation of diverse nonlinear higher order products of an original signal. On one hand, these products can act as activation functions in different types of neural networks, either recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and reservoir computers or in any other type of brain-inspired frameworks. On the other hand, the same products can form the basis for polynomial regression which is a very powerful technique used in machine learning in different tasks i.e. for the prediction of COVID-19 transmission [1].

Within the paradigm of Evolving and Adaptive Intelligent systems, the Electrical Power System (EPS) represents a Critical Infrastructure demanding robust reliability metrics. This study pioneers the application of Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) heuristic to the Optimal Switch Allocation (OSA) problem in the EPS. Adapting neighborhood structures and local search methods, we consider the joint allocation of Manual Switches and Remote-controlled switches, addressing interdependencies. Results highlight VNS efficacy in navigating OSA challenges, showcasing its adaptability in an evolving system. Comparative analyses endorse VNS as a valuable tool for addressing EPS reliability within the dynamic landscape of evolving and adaptive intelligent systems.

In the last decade, there has been a surge of research interest in feature extraction using random sampling. These techniques are fast and scalable and, at the same time, have practical favorability in low-sample size and high-dimensional training data. Convolutional Kitchen Sinks-based methods are promising random feature extractors for time series data. Since these methods are data-independent, many of the extracted features are redundant. To address this problem, we propose a simple and efficient feature selection method based on knee/elbow detection in the curve of ordered coefficients in linear regression. Our empirical studies show that without significant loss in accuracy, the proposed feature selector, on average, prunes more than 84 percent of randomly generated features.
