In this work, we present PhysioFuseNet, a novel framework designed to enhance driver stress state classification. PhysioFuseNet integrates a CNN-based encoder-decoder model with multimodal biosignal fusion. Using a driving simulator, different multimodal signals were acquired, namely electrocardiography, electrodermal activity, photoplethysmography, and respiration rate from (N = 25) healthy subjects. The experiment is of 35 minutes duration and contains different stress states (baseline (5 minutes), while normal, cognitive, and emotional sessions for 10 minutes). Multimodal features are extracted and employed in an encoder-decoder network. Extracted encoder features are combined through intermediate fusion and fed to support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF) classifiers. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of our approach, outperforming previous methods by achieving accuracies of 0.95 and 0.94 for SVM and RF, respectively. Notably, the framework excels in classifying emotional and cognitive stress states. In summary, the proposed framework could be useful in stress assessment in real-time and clinical conditions.

Humans start their day by looking in the mirror at least once before leaving their homes every morning. In addition, they waste some considerable time of their busy workload in front of the mirror. To make this time more productive and useful, there ought to be a system that can be readily conducted, user-friendly, and smart according to the constant progress on the Internet of Things. The intelligent mirror is a new addition to the smart device family, which is a straightforward concept. There will be a screen placed behind a two-way mirror, and this Intelligent Mirror turns our room or bathroom mirror into a personal assistant with artificial intelligence. The purpose is to develop a smart mirror that can automate working humans' busy daily routines and manage their tasks when they spend their time in front of a mirror. To make the most of this moment, users can securely access all the relevant details of the day by looking in the mirror simultaneously. The intelligent mirror, which a single voice command can activate, will significantly help disabled persons and the general. Raspberry Pi has been used to build the proposed intelligent mirror, linked to the digital world via the Internet. The mirror can communicate with the user through voice commands and reply appropriately. The monitoring of emotions and health measuring function will provide a distinctive experience to the users. The mirror will reflect important elements such as weather, date & time, covid-19 situation reports, local news, To-do list, water reminder, home workouts, and meal plans. The mirror can also handle specialized functions such as automating and controlling home IoT devices. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel testbed designed for 5th-Generation (5G) positioning using Universal Software Radio Peripherals (USRPs). The testbed integrates multiple units: an Operation Unit for test management, a User Unit equipped with an Ettus E312 USRP, and a Station Unit featuring an Ettus N310 USRP equipped with a three-element Uniform Linear Array for Angle of Arrival estimation. Alongside ultra wide-band ranging, the testbed estimates the user’s position relative to the base station. Signal processing algorithms are executed in a dedicated processing unit. Key challenges addressed include phase misalignment between RX channel pairs due to different Local Oscillators in the Ettus N310, necessitating real-time calibration for precise signal alignment. High sampling rates (up to 61.44 MSps) result in large IQ sample files, managed efficiently using a snapshot technique to optimize storage without compromising testbed positioning capabilities. The testbed synchronizes angular measurements with ranging estimates allowing consistent performance evaluation for real-life cases of dynamic users (e.g. pedestrian). Experimental results demonstrate the testbed’s effectiveness in achieving accurate pedestrian user localization.

The development of automation is characterized by the increasing complexity of control tasks associated with various technical objects. However, this does not exclude the human element from the control process. Manual control has certain drawbacks that negatively impact the quality of management, primarily arising from the interaction between the operator and the nonlinear dynamics of the robot. This study examines a manual control system for a robotic manipulator, taking into account nonlinear constraints that may manifest as limitations on the power of the actuating mechanism or as part of a local regulator. The parameters of the operator's control actions exhibit a certain range due to individual characteristics of the human operator or the control technique employed. Additionally, signal transmission delays may be present in the control loop. Considering these system characteristics provides a more comprehensive understanding of control quality and allows for the establishment of acceptable control techniques for the human operator. Depending on the frequency of input disturbances, this work analyzes the closed-loop system comprising the operator and manipulator using methods based on harmonic linearization of nonlinearity and harmonic balance equations: locus of a perturbed relay system and harmonic stabilization. The results of calculations and simulations using these methods indicate that there exists a parameter space within which oscillations may arise. Thus, when designing manual control systems for robotic manipulators, it is essential to pay attention to the control techniques employed by the human operator and to overall delays in order to avoid undesirable operational modes of the system. © 2025 IEEE.

In this work, we investigate the compression capabilities of a photonic neuromorphic accelerator relying on an optical spectrum slicing technique [1], following a high-flow 1D imaging cytometry setup, able to image 62000 particles/sec. The utilized image scheme relies on a technique, where spatial information is transfered to the spectrum and subsequently through dispersion to the temporal domain. Therefore, it can replace high speed spectrometers with a single photodetector [2]. On the other hand, the elevated image acquisition rate, trigger the generation of a staggering amount of data, which can cause a processing backlog at the digital backend. In this context, we explore, for the first time, the use of a photonic neuromorphic pre-processing unit, following the cytometer that can reduce the number of trainable parameters at a lightweight digital backend by a factor of 2.5, while at the same time, it can project incoming data to a high dimensional space boosting accuracy.

The worldwide emergency of the COVID–19 pandemic has shown how the social and economic behaviours, with impact on everyday life of citizens, play a crucial role on the speed and the intensity of the epidemic spread as well as the sanitary effort required for containing the number of hospitalised patients and the mortality rate. Political decisions assumed by the Governments to regulate, moderate and limit the individual contacts were the only effective approach until vaccination started to be massively available. Contacts limitations are always considered, in any Country, as an individual freedom limitation and then it has been seen as an unpopular approach. In this paper, starting from an ad-hoc designed simplified model, an optimal control based approach is used to show how the vaccination rate can effectively contribute to relax the individual limitations. A state based switching technique is adopted to replicate the Governments’ decisions based on the epidemic evolution. Some numerical simulations are reported to support the results.

A systematic framework for analyzing dynamical attributes of games has not been well-studied except for the special class of potential or near-potential games. In particular, the existing results have shortcomings in determining the asymptotic behavior of a given dynamic in a designated game. Although there is a large body literature on developing convergent dynamics to the Nash equilibrium (NE) of a game, in general, the asymptotic behavior of an underlying dynamic may not be even close to a NE. In this paper, we initiate a new direction towards game dynamics by studying the fundamental properties of the map of dynamics in games. To this aim, we first decompose the map of a given dynamic into contractive and non-contractive parts and then explore the asymptotic behavior of those dynamics using the proximity of such decomposition to contraction mappings. In particular, we analyze the non-contractive behavior for better/best response dynamics in discrete-action space sequential/repeated games and show that the non-contractive part of those dynamics is well-behaved in a certain sense. That allows us to estimate the asymptotic behavior of such dynamics using a neighborhood around the fixed point of their contractive part proxy. Finally, we demonstrate the practicality of our framework via an example from duopoly Cournot games. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This work introduces a novel Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) based on the characteristics of Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and Light-Detecting Resistors (LDRs) as long as these are combined. Specifically, we profit from the variations in the optical output of an LED caused by process variations, as well as from the variations in LDRs. In this way, our work allows for providing a PUF based on optical components, whose electrical response is a function of the used components. Notice that the electrical response refers not only to the static but also to the dynamical behavior. This way, a unique, double-component system can be easily constructed. © 2023 IEEE.

In planar pursuit-evasion differential games considering a faster pursuer and slower evader, the interception points resulting from equilibrium strategies lie on the Apollonius circle. This property is instrumental for leveraging geometric approaches for solving multiple pursuit-evasion scenarios in the plane. Here, we study a pursuit-evasion differential game on a sphere and generalize the planar Apollonius set to the spherical domain. We find that the interception point from the equilibrium strategies can leave the Apollonius set boundary and present a condition to keep the intercept point on the boundary. This condition allows for generalizing planar pursuitevasion strategies to the sphere.

The measurement of the dynamic parameters of vehicle motion is usually carried out by measuring the velocity of motion, accelerations and angular velocities in all three axes. For research applications, e.g. the DAS-3 with microwave velocity sensor from Corrsys Datron GmbH (now part of the Kistler Group) and the PicDaq5 from Dr. Steffan Datentechnik GmbH are used for this purpose. If the movement of the vehicle also needs to be documented by video, these three measuring devices need to be synchronized in time, e.g. by light pulses for the video and electrical pulses for the speed and acceleration meters. This paper describes the technical solution of the synchronization device, triggered manually during driving tests or by a ribbon switch in the case of measurements during crash tests.
