The exponential growth of distributed cloud systems necessitates an intelligent form of workload management that ensures optimum performance, scalability, and reliability. Traditional approaches based on static or heuristic resource allocation and fault-tolerance mechanisms cannot capture the dynamic nature of modern workloads and heterogeneous infrastructures. Drawing from this source of inspiration, this work develops a holistic framework integrating machine learning models that facilitate self-optimizing distributed cloud computing for dynamic workload management. Three components are significant in the proposed framework: (1) DNRA; this uses a hybrid GNN and RL architecture for real-time resource allocation, offering up to 25% improvement in resource utilization and a 30% reduction in task latency. (2) Workload-Aware Transfer Learning Scheduler (WATLS), leveraging transfer learning to predict workload dynamics across heterogeneous nodes, achieving 20% higher task throughput and 15% energy savings through proactive scheduling. (3) Multi-Agent Predictive Fault-Tolerant System (MAP-FTS), combining multi-agent systems with predictive fault detection to preemptively redistribute tasks and schedule maintenance, reducing system downtime by 50% and enhancing fault detection accuracy to 90%. The framework integrates novel methodologies towards answering the main challenges of resource allocation, workload prediction, and fault tolerance. The amount of progress achieved through cumulative contributions includes improvement in system reliability and scalability up to 5x their nodes and respective scalable energy efficiency without any degradation of performance. This work paves the pathway for an adaptive and intelligent next generation of distributed cloud systems.

Modeling trajectories in cigarette smoking prevalence, initiation and quitting for populations and subgroups of populations is important for policy planning and evaluation. This paper proposes an agent-based model (ABM) design for simulating the smoking behaviors of a population using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation - Behavior (COM-B) model. Capability, Opportunity and Motivation are modeled as latent composite attributes which are composed of observable factors associated with smoking behaviors. Three forms of the COM-B model are proposed to explain the transitions between smoking behaviors: initiating regular smoking uptake, making a quit attempt and quitting successfully. The ABM design follows object-oriented principles and extends an existing generic software architecture for mechanism-based modeling. The potential of the model to assess the impact of smoking policies is illustrated and discussed. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper explored a Broadband Corrugated Modified Vivaldi Antenna for head imaging applications using microwaves. The antenna is made up of a tapered feeding circular slotted patch and a rectangular modified wing shape ground with an electrical dimension of $0.49\lambda\times 0.41\lambda\times 0.009\lambda$ at lower frequency of 1.67 GHz. Front and back radiator are placed on a substrate of FR-4 material having a permittivity of 4.3 and a thickness of 1.5 mm, which are less expensive and more widely accessible. The designed antenna works between 1.67 and 6.37 GHz, allowing the imaging system to function over a large fractional bandwidth of about 116.92 %. With an appropriate impedance matching and a directionally stable radiation characteristics, the antenna has a decent gain of 9 dBi. A 50$\Omega$ microstrip line feeds the antenna. The simulation tools CST was used to evolve and optimize the design. © 2021 IEEE.

Tumor-educated platelets (TEPs) are circulating blood cells with a distinct tumor-driven phenotype and act as carriers and protectors of metastases. To date, some studies have shown that the TEPs transcriptome can be used for cancer diagnostics. The objective of this study is to propose a procedure based on differential gene expression and differential gene co-expression analyses to identify a set of key genes for multi-class cancer diagnostics. To reach this aim, we analyzed RNA-seq data (57736 genes) of 130 subjects, of whom 40 patients with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), 35 patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD), and 55 healthy donors (HC). We focused our analysis on the subset of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and we used these genes to build and analyze the differential co-expression networks, identifying the hub genes. With this procedure, we obtained a restricted set of DEGs that maximize the accuracy in classifying patients according to their conditions (GBM, PAAD, or HC). Indeed, we validated our results by comparing the achieved classification accuracy with that resulting from random selections of DEGs and we obtained that genes selected by differential co-expression (DCE) network analysis have greater predictive power than any other set of differentially expressed genes, including using all of them.

The research aim is to derive connection between the parameters of dielectric resonators frequency shift and the warp defect of 3D printing filament. Object of investigation are the processes of interaction of electromagnetic wave of a dielectric resonator with filament for 3D printing. The proposed model describes the connection between the frequency shift and defect warp of filament frequency pulling depending on the load.

nowadays, living space, food and water for the rapidly growing urban population are not used quite sparingly, which makes them extremely vulnerable resources. Therefore, the trend has emerged where people in urban areas choose to have a small garden (for example, a balcony garden), and want to grow healthy and environmentally friendly food. To achieve this, a compact plant growing system 'Grow Box' is needed, which gives an optimal use of space and can provide an automated plant growing process. The authors proposed the concept of IoT based smart system using the augmented reality for growing plants in the city. System implementation has a modular structure and can act as an experimental site or a full-fledged tool with some changes for greenhouses. © 2020 IEEE.

Distributed tactile sensing for multi-force detection is crucial for various aerial robot interaction tasks. However, current contact sensing solutions on drones only exploit single end-effector sensors and cannot provide distributed multi-contact sensing. Designed to be easily mounted at the bottom of a drone, we propose an optical tactile sensor that features a large and curved soft sensing surface, a hollow structure and a new illumination system. Even when spaced only 2 cm apart, multiple contacts can be detected simultaneously using our software pipeline, which provides real-world quantities of 3D contact locations (mm) and 3D force vectors (N), with an accuracy of 1.5 mm and 0.17 N respectively. We demonstrate the sensor’s applicability and reliability onboard and in real-time with two demos related to i) the estimation of the compliance of different perches and subsequent re-alignment and landing on the stiffer one, and ii) the mapping of sparse obstacles. The implementation of our distributed tactile sensor represents a significant step towards attaining the full potential of drones as versatile robots capable of interacting with and navigating within complex environments. To increase energy safety when working with electrical devices (electronic equipment), a number of devices are used, such as a circuit breaker, RCCB circuit breaker, fuse links, relays and others. All of those components are designed to protect devices or people, who work with them, but access to them is often limited, in addition, the restriction is imposed also because the user must have certain qualifications. In addition, most of the elements are located in the electrical distribution box. The proposed concept of the control system is a compact solution, and allows to measure all the necessary parameters of energy consumption, analyze this parameters and make decisions, as well as, in fact, control the power of devices remotely using modern technologies, such as IoT, which expands the functions of a standard energy security system. The system itself can be located directly at the target consumer in the form of a surge protector or Watt-meter. © 2021 IEEE.

Fatigue is a prevalent issue that disrupts the overall well-being of individuals, leading to impaired cognitive functions such as learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, and problem-solving. Chronic fatigue significantly increases the risk of accidents due to reduced focus, vigilance, and delayed reaction times. Traditional self-assessment methods for detecting fatigue are subjective and often unreliable. Recent advancements in neuroimaging have demonstrated that EEG signal analysis can objectively classify an individual's mental state. This research aims to develop a reliable and accurate EEG signal fatigue detection system. The EEG signals are decomposed into four levels using a one-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (1D-DWT). Textural features are extracted using binary pattern (BP) analysis and combined with seven statistical features. Then, these features are fed into a k-nearest neighbors (KNN) classifier to distinguish between the rest and fatigue states. Utilizing a dataset from the Mendeley Data website, the proposed system achieved an accuracy of 93.75%, precision between 93% and 95%, recall ranging from 92% to 95%, and an F1-score of 93% to 94%. This study highlights the potential of EEG-based systems to provide objective and accurate assessments of fatigue levels, thereby reducing the risks associated with chronic fatigue in daily life.

The limitations of conventional techniques necessitate the development of new diagnostic strategies for early detection of skin cancer, the most prevalent form of cancer. This investigation investigates the application of Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) in creating a dependable and automated skin cancer detection system. The primary goal is to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of SNNs for this purpose. The methodology entails using the SpikingJelly framework to create and assess an SNN-based model, specifically a modified Spiking VGG-11. Focusing on images classified as melanoma or non-melanoma, the investigation employs the ISIC 2019 dataset. The Spiking VGG-11 model, which features approximately 15 million parameters, achieved a test accuracy of 81.3%, specificity of 81.7%, and precision of 81.5%. This performance is noteworthy in light of its reduced complexity compared to models such as the Spiking VGG-13, which has approximately 134 million parameters. The model's high specificity is especially advantageous in clinical environments, as it minimizes false positives and unnecessary testing. These results emphasize the potential of SNNs to offer diagnostic tools that are both efficient and effective in the detection of skin cancer. These findings underscore the potential of SNNs to enhance the early detection and diagnosis of skin cancer, offering a promising alternative to conventional diagnostic methods.
