Vehicle dynamics simulation is widely used in the automotive industry. The usability of each model depends on how well it can replicate the behaviour of the real vehicle. Each simulation model must go through a thorough investigation process- model validation- before use. Accordingly, the research introduces a comprehensive methodological framework for vehicle dynamics model validation using a sophisticated vehicle dynamics measurement system and a machine learning algorithm. The validation process of a two-wheel vehicle model (bicycle model) is presented where the authors’ previously proposed work is exploited as a base and further developed, i.e. by using a Genetic Algorithm (GA) the vehicle parameters (yaw inertia, axle cornering stiffness) are estimated in an automatized fashion.

In recent years, and especially during the on-going pandemic, the interest in investigating the dynamics of infodemics has increased to unprecedented levels. In this study we propose an agent-based model for the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and other similar information. The model is based on the susceptible-infected-recovered-susceptible epidemic interpretation. We introduce a rule-based reasoning module to model individual bias in the perception of information based on the psychology concept of illusion of knowledge. We integrate this module into a deliberative-reactive agent controller structure and a decentralized control scheme for the multi-agent system. Results show significant differences between the outputs of the proposed model and the classical version, impressing on the effects of considering local agent individuality when modeling human psycho-social interactions.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is considered to be the second most common neurodegenerative disease which affects the patients’ life throughout the years. As a consequence, its early diagnosis is of major importance for the improvement of life quality, implying that the severe symptoms can be delayed through appropriate clinical intervention and treatment. Among the most important premature symptoms of PD are the voice impairments of articulation, phonation and prosody. The objective of this study is to investigate whether the voice’s dynamic behavior can be used as possible indicator for PD. Thus in this work, we employ the recurrence plots (RPs) which derive from the analysis of the three modulated vowels /a/, /e/ and /o/, which belong to the PC-GITA dataset, and are fed as input images to a 3-channel Convolutional Neural Network-based (CNN) architecture, which, finally, differentiates the 50 PD patients from 50 healthy subjects. The experimental results obtained provide evidence that the RP-based approach is a promising tool for the recognition of PD patients through the analysis of voice recordings, with a classification accuracy achieved equal to 87%.

Reputation-based consensus methods have gained significant attention in distributed systems to mitigate the impact of malicious agents and ensure reliable decision-making. However, privacy concerns arise when sensitive information is shared among participants. In this paper, we propose a reputation-based consensus method that incorporates resilience and privacy guarantees, providing a balance between preserving participants' privacy and maintaining the accuracy of the resilient consensus process. Our approach leverages the notion of privacy to add noise to the agents' states, ensuring that individual contributions are masked while still enabling the detection of malicious behavior. We present a detailed analysis of the privacy-accuracy trade-off and demonstrate the effectiveness of our method through simulations. The results show that our reputation-based consensus method with privacy guarantees offers robustness against attacks while preserving the privacy of participants, making it a promising solution for privacy-conscious resilient distributed systems. © 2014 IEEE.

The Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism has been employed to provide a common basis for discrete-event modeling and simulation. Here, we describe a DEVS library for finite state machines built using Cadmium, a DEVS Modeling and Simulation tool, and we discuss different case studies of Moore and Mealy Machines. We build upon the concept that each state can be represented as a DEVS atomic model instance which can be coupled with other instances to form a coupled model representing a Finite State Machine. © 2020 Society for Modeling & Simulation International (SCS)

The advent of Programmable Wireless Environments (PWEs) has transformed the wireless propagation phenomenon into a software-defined resource, leveraging Software-defined metasurfaces (SDMs). These new technologies have shown that wireless waves can be routed within a space, contrary to the regular, chaotic wireless propagation, yielding considerable benefits to communication efficiency, and even completely new applications. A new topic has risen, in the context of modeling these capabilities as network resources, and allocating them to users. In this context, the present paper contributes HERA, a heuristic resource allocator that receives a setup with users and SDMs as input, and produces the necessary configuration of the latter, for efficient shared performance. Simulation results demonstrate considerable efficiency in this task, while the heuristic nature of HERA sets the basis for a flexible definition of complex user objectives in the future.

Chatbot technology is considered one of the latest artificial intelligence tools used to achieve interaction between the organization and the customer. It relies on natural language processing, as it helps the organization know the desires and needs of the customer, in addition to collecting customer data and displaying the services provided by the organization. This research proposes an architectural model for supporting chatbots based on the ChatGPT model. It receives customer interaction inputs, understands questions, and responds quickly and appropriately. In addition, this model was designed and implemented using the Voiceflow platform. This model was named EDUBot to build communication elements and components to customize the structure of the virtual conversation and manage the dialogue. This model can be applied to the Educational City institution as a case study to improve customer service and help the institution manage customer relationships more efficiently.

Lately a new approach to Extended Reality (XR), denoted as XR-RF, has been proposed which is realized by combining Radio Frequency (RF) Imaging and programmable wireless environments (PWEs). RF Imaging is a technique that aims to detect geometric and material features of an object through RF waves. On the other hand, the PWE focuses on the the conversion of the wireless RF propagation in a controllable, by software, entity through the utilization of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs), which can have a controllable interaction with impinging RF waves. In that sense, this dynamic synergy leverages the potential of RF Imaging to detect the structure of an object through RF wavefronts and the PWE’s ability to selectively replicate those RF wavefronts from one spatial location to wherever an XR-RF mobile user is presently located. Then the captured wavefront, through appropriate hardware, is mapped to the visual representation of the object through machine learning models. As a key aspect of the XR-RF’s system workflow is the wavefront copying mechanism, this work introduces a new PWE configuration algorithm for XR-RF. Moreover, it is shown that the waveform replication process inevitably yields imprecision in the replication process. After statistical analysis, based on simulation results, it is shown that this imprecision can be effectively modeled by the gamma distribution.

Renewable energy sources exhibit significant variability and uncertainty, showing numerous distinct scenarios. In the context of generation planning, it's imperative to employ scenario reduction techniques to select representative scenarios that capture the characteristics of renewable energy outputs. However, traditional scenario reduction methods often fail to adequately preserve the extreme output scenarios of these renewables. This paper improves the simultaneous backward reduction method (SBR), enhancing its capability to effectively capture the extreme output scenarios of renewable sources. As a result, the generation planning becomes more economically viable and more reliable. The efficacy of the improved SBR method is demonstrated using data from the Qinhuangdao region in China. © 2023 IEEE.

A terahertz (THz) wave technology is very appealing for applications in detection in biomedicine, biological spectroscopy, material characterization, detection, imaging, sensing, and other convenient applications. Metamaterials (MMs) are artificial structures that have structures in a regular periodic arrangement and don't exist in nature. By utilizing a proposed terahertz metamaterial absorber, a broad spectrum of adulterated lubricants can be detected. It is an efficient detection process that enables the development of a THz detection approach by making use of the metamaterial as a sensor. The proposed terahertz absorber is analyzed and optimized using the CST Microwave Studio 2019 software. The article proposed a multiband THz metamaterial absorber with a unit size of 70 µm. According to the demonstrated results, we can achieve five narrow absorption peaks with perfect absorption within the frequency range between (0.2–4.2) Terahertz. Also, the result shows that, the average absorbance of 99.07% at the resonance frequencies of 0.56, 1.42, 2.676, 3.14, and 3.89 THz. The E (electric) and H (magnetic)-field distributions on the resonator at different resonance frequencies were also analyzed as well as. The recommended metamaterial absorber has a good sensing capability at different resonant frequencies, with refractive index sensitivities of 80 GHz/RIU, 240 GHz/RIU, 480 GHz/RIU, 480 GHz/RIU, and 520 GHz/RIU obtained by modifying the refractive index of the sample holder or the analytic layer, respectively. As a result, the proposed detector has a high refractive index sensitivity, high Q-factor, and high FOM, making it suitable for detecting oil adulteration. © 2024 Elsevier GmbH
