This work aims to enable autonomous agents for network cyber operations (CyOps) by applying reinforcement and deep reinforcement learning (RL/DRL). The required RL training environment is particularly challenging, as it must balance the need for high fidelity, best achieved through real network emulation, with the need for running large numbers of training episodes, best achieved using simulation. A unified training environment, namely the Cyber Gym for Intelligent Learning (CyGIL), is developed where an emulated CyGIL-E automatically generates a simulated CyGIL-S. From preliminary experimental results, CyGIL-S can train agents in minutes compared with the days required in CyGIL-E. The agents trained in CyGIL-S are transferrable directly to CyGIL-E, showing full decision proficiency in the emulated 'real' network. Enabling offline RL, the CyGIL solution presents a promising direction towards sim-to-real in leveraging RL agents in real-world cyber networks. © 2022 IEEE.

Advanced driver assistance and automated driving systems rely on an enhanced perception, which requires a reliable fusion of heterogeneous data from multiple sensors. Track-to-track fusion is a commonly used architecture in automotive perception systems. However, track management is still under-discussed among other modules of track-to-track fusion, i.e., association and state fusion, despite its significant impact on the fidelity of the fused data. Track management is responsible for maintaining the fused track list by handling appearing and disappearing objects and, more importantly, determining if a sensor track was generated by a real target or false detections. In this paper, we compare different track management strategies using simulated and real data from a radar-camera sensor cluster, analyzing their false alarm filtering effectiveness.

This research proposes a system as a solution for the challenges faced by Sri Lanka's historic railway system, such as scheduling delays, overcrowding, manual ticketing, and management inefficiencies. It proposes a multi-subsystem approach, incorporating GPS tracking, RFID-based e-ticketing, seat reservation, and vision-based people counting. The GPS-based real-time train tracking system performs accurately within 24 meters, with the MQTT protocol showing twice the speed of the HTTP-based system. All subsystems use the MQTT protocol to enhance efficiency, reliability, and passenger experience. The study's data and methodology demonstrate the effectiveness of these innovations in improving scheduling, passenger flow, and overall system performance, offering promising solutions for modernizing Sri Lanka's railway infrastructure.

Short message spam poses a significant threat for all mobile phone users, as it can act as an efficient tool for cyberattacks including spreading malware and phishing. Traditional anti-spam measures are only minimally effective against modern spammers. Intelligent analysis of the content to categorise the messages as Spam (unwanted and unsolicited) or Ham (useful messages) is therefore essential to safeguard the user from such attacks. Various artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are proving to be useful in the analysis of the content of such short messages to classify and filter spam. We have trained, validated and tested seven such AI techniques on the SMS spam collection dataset to identify the best model for designing and developing a content based classification system. Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) have shown the highest performance metrics (Test Accuracy: 99.28%) and hence our proposed system includes a RNN model for classification. A web app of this system has also been deployed where a single SMS can be input and the designed system can classify it as Spam or Ham. The designed system is compared against existing systems and is found to be significantly better.

The world is currently experiencing population explosion, and it has been forecast that the population would reach nine billion by the year 2050. This rapid population growth is accompanied with new challenges, including high demand for food supply, which may lead to food crises. Contemporary agricultural methods and resources cannot meet the forecast food demand. Precision agriculture is one of the best ways to meet this demand, and using agricultural robots is an important aspect of it. Many researchers have been conducting studies on the application of robots in agricultural tasks such as farm clearance, seeding, seedling, spraying, fertilization, and harvesting. This paper presents a comprehensive review on path planning techniques for agricultural robots. it focuses on different types of agricultural robots and path plans in use. It also provides taxonomy of agricultural robot path plans, metadata analysis, and deep insights into the recent developments in the research area, while pointing out the challenges being faced and possible future solutions. This article may serve as a guide to early career researchers with interest in agricultural robots to easily understand the current developments and the future research focus in this field. © 2022 IEEE.

One major goal of digital twin technology applied in the Architecture, engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry is the mapping of roads and road environments with their associated information. Such digital twins can support cost-effective testing, simulations, and the production of mapping backgrounds for automated vehicles and generally for Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) developments. The efficient workflow that leads from data acquisition to finished products depends on a number of requirements and knowledge sets. The main contribution of the paper is a general methodology of creating HD-map from point cloud and image data set. Accordingly, the most widely used survey techniques are presented and the requirements for the objects to be derived are summarized. The paper then outlines a general implementation procedure as an expert knowledge through a real-life example, where the results obtained for the ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground are demonstrated. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, and especially during the on-going pandemic, the interest in investigating the dynamics of infodemics has increased to unprecedented levels. In this study we propose an agent-based model for the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and other similar information. The model is based on the susceptible-infected-recovered-susceptible epidemic interpretation. We introduce a rule-based reasoning module to model individual bias in the perception of information based on the psychology concept of illusion of knowledge. We integrate this module into a deliberative-reactive agent controller structure and a decentralized control scheme for the multi-agent system. Results show significant differences between the outputs of the proposed model and the classical version, impressing on the effects of considering local agent individuality when modeling human psycho-social interactions. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper discusses methods for estimating the electrical parameters of payloads (transponders) of communications spacecraft using digital modulation signals. To estimate the parameters, the processing of the quadrature signal at the output of the transponder, obtained during the signal constellation measurements, as well as the determination of the amplitude of the error vector in the testing process, is used. Application of these methods allows to significantly reduce the test duration and improve the test procedure based on the identified factors affecting the amplitude of the error vector. The study of electrical parameters of payload of communication spacecraft is an important aspect of their operation. Repeaters that provide ground-to-spacecraft communications must operate reliable and efficiently. The evaluation of these parameters allows optimizing the testing process and providing more accurate results. Digital modulation signals are widely used in modern communication systems. They allow you to transmit data at high speed and minimize signal distortion. However, for the correct operation of repeaters, it is necessary to accurately estimate their electrical parameters. The application of these methods reduces the duration of tests, which is especially important in the development and testing of a spacecraft. This also reduces the cost of testing and ensures the accuracy of the results. Digital modulation signals are also more reliable than analog modulation signals, making them an ideal choice for spacebased communication systems.

Charging a significant number of electric vehicles (EVs) can pose challenges for power systems, and a viable solution is smart charging. Reliable smart charging can be achieved by forecasting the required energy and plug-in duration of a charging event. However, despite the availability of data from public charging stations, the lack of sufficient real data for residential EV charging has consistently been a barrier, particularly when using deep learning methods. Moreover, enhancing the accuracy of forecasting residential EV charging behavior is crucial due to its significant impact on power systems. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an intelligent deep learning-based framework to forecast the required energy and plug-in duration of residential EV charging events by leveraging transfer learning. Additionally, the proposed framework utilizes an auxiliary deep learning model that forecasts charging duration to improve the accuracy of required energy forecasting. Various case studies have been conducted, and the results show that the proposed framework significantly improves the accuracy of residential charging behavior forecasting.

Robots playing soccer often rely on hard-coded behaviors that struggle to generalize when the game environment change. In this paper, we propose a temporal logic based approach that allows robots’ behaviors and goals to adapt to the semantics of the environment. In particular, we present a hierarchical representation of soccer in which the robot selects the level of operation based on the perceived semantic characteristics of the environment, thus modifying dynamically the set of rules and goals to apply. The proposed approach enables the robot to operate in unstructured environments, just as it happens when humans go from soccer played on an official field to soccer played on a street. Three different use cases set in different scenarios are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2024, CC BY.
