Radial or pincushion distortion problem of the wide angle charge-coupled device (CCD) camera is an important issue in the image calibration in case of close-up photography of real scene. We designed the auto-extraction method of the warping points in the calibration algorithm of the image acquired by the wide angle CCD camera. Proposed method extracts the distortion point by the wide angle CCD camera, using the threshold value of the histogram of the horizontal and vertical pixel lines. This processing step can be directly applied to the original image of the wide angle CCD camera output. Proposed method results are compared with hand-worked result image using the two wide angle CCD cameras having different angles (90° and 120°) with the difference value of the result images respectively. Experimental results show that proposed method can allocate the distortion-calibration constant of the wide angle CCD camera regardless of lens type, distortion shape and image type.

Performance of a power system security early warning and control system depends on accuracy of power grid parameter to a great extent. It is important to develop a practical branch parameter estimation method. From the results of expanded state estimation application, which is a representative parameter estimation method proposed before, it often happened that the parameters could not be estimated or estimated imprecisely. Focusing on IEEE 9 and a real-life area power grid in China, deep research on expanded state estimation method is carried out. As a result, these numerical instability and local optimization problems existing in the method were found here. A novel parameter estimation method based on Tabu search strategy is proposed to overcome these problems existing in the expanded state estimation method. Its good behavior in numerical stability and global optimization is verified by numerical tests on IEEE 9 and the real-life area power grid in China.

The aim of the present study is to produce thermal energy from waste liquid. Emphasis is placed on the combustion gas analysis of free jets formed in stagnant air, in which a mixture of a waste liquid (e.g., pig-urine) and a waste oil is injected in the horizontal direction. Here the combustion gas components H2, O2, N2, CH4, CO, CO2 and N2O are measured with the aid of a gas chromatograph. Consideration is given to the effects of flow rates of waste oil, waste liquid and air on the concentration of N2O. It is found that (i) the concentration of N2O and its production are affected by the mix rate of waste oil and waste liquid, and (ii) the corresponding production of N2O is increased in the combustion gases of only waste oil.

In recent years, new structural health monitoring (SHM) methodologies with a concept of "instantaneous baseline damage detection" are being developed by many researchers, since it has been found that the most of SHM technologies are too vulnerable to environmental and/or operational variations. In this context, this paper presents online instantaneous baseline structural damage detection using a low cost and low power, in-situ guided waves-SHM system. Firstly, four small, low cost and light weight smart piezoelectric ceramic (PZT) patches are surface-mounted and assumed to have the same bonding conditions to detect structural defects on an aluminum plate. Then, a miniaturized low power guided waves-SHM system with a digital signal processing (DSP) module is employed for signal generation/excitation, signal sensing, and data processing. The instantaneous baseline damage detection based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT) analysis is carried out on the DSP module. Finally, effects of Lamb waves due to artificial "cut-damage' with different locations are investigated using both "pitch-catch" and "pulse-echo" wave propagation schemes. Conclusively, this study shows a good potential for online and in-situ crack monitoring on panel structures such as an aircraft wing.

This paper is concerned with system level energy management in wireless sensor networks. The network is required to conduct certain tasks which require information from individual sensors to be sent to a base station. Sensors cease functioning when they deplete their energy reserves or may fail abruptly due to random malfunctions. Sensor selection refers to the number of times sensors are interrogated, while sensor scheduling refers to the sequence in which these interrogations are conducted. A sensor management layer that isolates the system objectives from selection/scheduling is proposed. It is shown that sensor selection reduces to integer linear programming. Sensor scheduling is necessary when random sensor failures are considered or when the task definition is not stationary. Some general principles emerge. If all sensors are equally reliable, the optimal policy is to use the most energetic sensors first. If all sensors are equally energetic, the optimal policy is to use the least reliable sensor first.

This Guaranteed cost control law is obtained via multi-parametric Quadratic Programming. The result is a piecewise fuzzy control law where the state partition is defined by fuzzy inequalities.
