Optimizing task scheduling in cloud environments: a hybrid golden search whale optimization algorithm approach

Managing fluctuating workloads and optimizing resource utilization in cloud environments pose significant challenges, particularly in fields requiring real-time data processing, such as healthcare. This paper introduces a novel hybrid metaheuristic technique, the Golden Search Whale Optimization Algorithm (GSWOA), specifically designed for scheduling independent dynamic biomedical data. GSWOA merges the strengths of Golden Search Optimization (GSO) and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), optimizing numerical function optimization and achieving a balance between exploration and exploitation. The algorithm’s effectiveness was assessed using MATLAB by applying standard benchmark functions and further evaluated on a real-world biomedical dataset within the CloudSim environment. The performance evaluations demonstrate that GSWOA significantly outperforms existing metaheuristic and traditional scheduling techniques, achieving a 42.71% increase in resource utilization and a 14.17% reduction in makespan compared to conventional methods. These results highlight GSWOA’s potential to enhance scheduling efficiency substantially in cloud computing infrastructures, suggesting it is a powerful tool for complex task allocations. Driver fatigue detection is increasingly recognized as critical for enhancing road safety. This study introduces a method for detecting driver fatigue using the SEED-VIG dataset, a well-established benchmark in EEG-based vigilance analysis. By employing advanced pattern recognition technologies, including machine learning and deep neural networks, EEG signals are meticulously analyzed to discern patterns indicative of fatigue. This methodology combines feature extraction with a classification framework to improve the accuracy of fatigue detection. The proposed NLMDA-Net reached an impressive accuracy of 83.71% in detecting fatigue from EEG signals by incorporating two novel attention modules designed specifically for EEG signals, the channel and depth attention modules. NLMDA-Net effectively integrate features from multiple dimensions, resulting in improved classification performance. This success stems from integrating temporal convolutions and attention mechanisms, which effectively interpret EEG data. Designed to capture both temporal and spatial characteristics of EEG signals, deep learning classifiers have proven superior to traditional methods. The results of this study reveal a substantial enhancement in detection rates over existing models, highlighting the efficacy of the proposed approach for practical applications. The implications of this research are profound, extending beyond academic realms to inform the development of more sophisticated driver assistance systems. Incorporating this fatigue detection algorithm into these systems could significantly reduce fatigue-related incidents on the road, thus fostering safer driving conditions. This paper provides an exhaustive analysis of the dataset, methods employed, results obtained, and the potential real-world applications of the findings, aiming to contribute significantly to advancements in automotive safety. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This paper aims to improve Llama 2’s performance by using personalized and modified datasets. Despite the impressive capabilities of large language models (LLMs) such as Llama 2, their effectiveness may be limited in specialized domains. The proposed method entails fine-tuning Llama 2 on custom datasets to optimize performance efficiently. The study focuses on the impact of quantization-aware low-rank adapter layers (QLoRA) on a single GPU’s resource-efficient fine-tuning performance. Furthermore, the study looks into the design of instruction datasets to guide the model toward desired behaviors. When Llama 2 is fine-tuned with QLoRA, performance improves significantly across tasks such as text summarization, question answering, and natural language generation in a variety of domains. Integrating Augmented Reality (AR) into neurosurgical procedures has shown substantial promise in enhancing surgical precision and educational outcomes, building upon previous applications primarily focused on simple visualization tasks. This study extends the current scope by using smartphone-based AR navigation systems tailored to assist neurosurgeons performing brain tumor surgery. Unlike prior efforts, our research developed and validated an AR system that superimposes precise virtual representations of critical anatomical structures, such as the skull and brain, onto a 3D-printed patient model. These models are rendered in transparent materials that improve the visibility and understanding of intricate internal structures, facilitating more intuitive surgical planning and training. Our findings demonstrate that while AR significantly enhances the visualization of anatomical details and the alignment of virtual to physical models, its effectiveness depends on the viewing angle and facial feature distinctiveness, achieving the highest accuracy in frontal views. These results underscore improvements over traditional AR systems, which often struggle with accurate depth perception and spatial orientation, and highlight the challenges of broad integration. ©2024 IEEE.

In the digital era, data communication security is one of the main challenges. This research proposes a new method for secure image communication, which is a mixed triple logistic map and BB84 quantum key distribution. This approach combines the strengths of classical and quantum cryptographic systems to improve security. BB84 quantum key distribution protocol for securely distributing encryption keys. The resulting key is then processed into a hash value using the SHA-256 algorithm. These hash values are converted into ASCII values, which are used to generate three key sequences using the modified logistic map. The three key sequences are combined to form a keystream used in image encryption. Several security metrics are used to evaluate encryption security, including entropy, the Chi-Square test, and pixel correlation. The analysis results show that the encrypted image has an entropy close to eight. In addition, all chi-square values smaller than 293 indicate a uniform distribution. The correlation of nearby pixels in the encrypted image is also very low, where all values are less than 0.01, which indicates the loss of local patterns in the encrypted image. These results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively secures image communications, providing high security and resistance to conventional and quantum cryptographic attacks. © 2024 IEEE.

In today’s Internet-centric world, two main challenges have arisen regarding data exploration: a) the privacy of sensitive data and b) the need for users to have an efficient way to manage their data. Cloud computing offers a cost-effective way towards direct data storage and access, which can function as a catalyst to modernize and update legacy systems. Although cloud computing provides efficient dynamic storage space, data security remains a concern. To this end, we propose a novel design and implementation of an application that enables secure storage of personal data in the cloud through a complete homomorphic encryption system. The application is named "SHeMed", which stands for Secure Homomorphic encryption on Medical cloud data. We have concentrated on the secure storage of medical data for breast cancer patients to ensure patients’ data privacy and prevent unauthorized access. With the introduction of homomorphic encryption in the core of this application, we achieve four significant milestones regarding the secure "sealing" of data privacy: a) the user does not share the private key with the cloud provider, b) the user can proceed with implementing mathematical operations on encrypted data, c) cloud can be easily scaled and provide a convenient way to store data, d) after the implementation of mathematical operations, the new processed data may be shared with other users, mainly doctors, without providing the original ones. Our design implies that our users will need to retrieve their patient’s data just once. In this paper, we present a case study of our application that utilizes homomorphic encryption to eliminate the burden of preserving data confidentiality in the cloud and enable a convenient analysis of medical data through computations on encrypted data. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The present research focuses on an integrated architecture for extraction and identification of disease in the cotton plants. The deep learning architecture provided in the paper is capable of extracting the features from the cotton images and then create feature map of the same. The methods provide an automated approach for disease detection using image parts of various plant parts. The proposed methodology provides a unified approach for detection of major cotton diseases, namely bacterial blight, cotton leaf curl virus and wilt. The Steam platform releases thousands of games almost every week, providing customers with many options, which require various considerations to make a purchase decision. Steam has features that can help consumers consider purchasing games, such as the help dashboard that provides information on game reviews and ratings. However, based on user input reviews, game ratings are still manual, which may cause human error and inaccurate results. To help gamers get the desired game information and increase customer purchasing power towards available games, sentiment analysis is one technique for classifying opinions. This study focuses on sentiment analysis of game reviews, which will result in classification into two classes, positive and negative. It will be measured for its performance based on the f1 score evaluation results. The proposed model that we created is to compare sentiment analysis models using the baseline Bi-directional Long-short Term Memory (BiLSTM), Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (BiGRU), and fine-tuning Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformer (BERT). We then propose another model, BiLSTM-CRF, by examining the effect of using the last four hidden states of BERT and comparing it with the last one hidden state of BERT to be used in the BiLSTM-CRF model. Based on the results of sentiment analysis models we developed for the ten most reviewed games on Steam, the BiLSTM model combined with CRF on the last four hidden states yielded the best performance, with an Fl score of 95.2 %. This score exceeds the baseline transformer-based model's Fl score of 88.0%. This is because combining BiLSTM and CRF allows the log-likelihood of the BiLSTM emission sample to be obtained more accurately so the model does not lose its context. © 2023 IEEE.

The integration of human resources and artificial intelligence has shown a growing interest in automatically predicting personality traits, particularly in recruitment. To contribute to this field, we propose a new method to assist human resource professionals in Indonesia to identify candidates' personality traits. Biases come from personality tests due to their question format and susceptibility to manipulation on this research, we propose an approach that combines personality tests using the BFI form, which measures OCEAN personality traits, with personality trait predictions derived from Twitter data. This research aims to create a personality prediction model and system that efficiently and effectively screens candidate personality traits in human resources. This research has developed a novel model that combines personality test results with tweets personality prediction with an impressive F1-macro performance of 98%. © 2023 IEEE.
