This paper proposes a multi-scale control scheme aimed at controlling speed, dwell time, and charging time of electric and automated buses performing the transport service on lines where there are no reserved lanes. The proposed control scheme has two layers characterized by different control objectives, level of detail and time scales. The high-level controller periodically solves a multi-objective optimal control problem formalized to ensure an adequate transport service, while the low-level controller, being based on a more accurate description of the bus dynamics and energy consumption, seeks to follow the high-level control actions while taking into account the effective traffic conditions encountered on the line and the effective dynamic behaviour of the bus. The paper concludes with the application to a case study in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme. © 2024 IEEE.

Dropout (DO) has negative implications for individuals and educational institutions. The field of education data mining (EDM) offers valuable contributions to prevent dropout cases and improve student retention. This study focuses on implementing EDM to identify students at risk of dropping out by integrating academic activity criteria with real-time data sources. Previous studies have encountered limitations in classification and clustering techniques, with classification relying on labeled training data (supervised learning) and clustering constrained by attribute or criteria weight (unsupervised learning). This study aims to address these limitations by combining the PROMETHEE II ranking approach and the CRITIC weighting method, producing a list of students with dropout potential. The results can aid stakeholders in implementing preventive measures. The study involves several steps: 1) Collecting data through integration with academic portals;2) Filtering and selecting criteria for student academic activities;3) Transforming and normalizing the data;4) Applying automatic weighting using CRITIC;5) Calculating criteria rankings using the PROMETHEE II technique;and 6) Validating the ranking outcomes. © 2023 IEEE.

Integrating brain images and genetic data provides a great opportunity to discover potential biomarkers for neurological disorder diagnosis. However, learning genetic information and brain network dysfunction remains a challenging task. In this paper, we propose an interpretable multi-modal imaging and genetic graph convolution network (GCN) for Alzheimer's disease diagnosis. Our genetic network uses hierarchical GCN to mimic a gene ontology-based graph of biological processes and learn the information flow in this graph. In parallel, our imaging network uses a sparse interpretable GCN with node and edge importance probabilities to learn the brain network from multi-modal images. After multi-modal fusion, the final representation guided by a cluster-based consistency constraint is used to predict the disease-related clinical measures. We evaluate our method on the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database. Our result shows that our imaging-genetics framework achieves superior prediction performance compared to all state-of-the-art methods. The interpretation demonstrated that the salient SNPs, and salient regions interpreted by important probabilities were significantly correlated with AD-related clinical symptoms, and considerably important for developing novel biomarkers. In the current digital era, various data can be generated with the capabilities of a computer system, making it easier and faster to make decisions. Mall is a place for shopping as well as entertainment that presents many well-known brands. In marketing the room to tenants, data is needed that can attract tenants to cooperate with the mall. The method used in this research is the Viola-Jones method which is used to detect objects because this method has an efficient algorithm, so it does not take long to detect objects. There are four main contributions to the Viola-Jones theory, including the Haar Feature, Integral image, Adaptive Boosting or AdaBoost, and the Combination Classifier of Cascade. The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the number of visitors who come as a reference for determining prices for tenants. The results of this study found that the Viola-Jones method can effectively calculate the number of visitors with a face detection approach and make it easier for mall management to get mall visitor data. © 2022 IEEE.

In this research, a prosthetic robot hand that features a lever-based finger movement mechanism is proposed as the new approach to the T-FLoW 3.0 humanoid robot's hand development. The proposed approach performs both grasping and releasing movements by pushing or pulling the finger-attached lever. The lever is pushed or pulled by micro-servo, which uses a stiff bar to transfer the force from the servo-horn to the finger's lever. Our prosthetic robot hand is equipped with six joints, six SG92R micro-servos as actuators, and six force-sensitive resistors (FSR) as grasping feedback. 3D printing manufacturing technology is utilized to give the hand a realistic appearance, and PLA filament material is used in the manufacturing process to provide low-cost, lightweight, and easy maintenance. Static structural analysis simulation result lead to the conclusion that our prosthetic robot hand could sustain a load of around 30N. With the lever-based finger movement mechanism, the proposed approach is expected to overcome the mechanical slip issues from finger movements, which are often experienced in the old approach of the T-FLoW 3.0 humanoid robot's hand development. © 2022 IEEE.

The area of Western Greece and the Peloponnese region show land deformations that can be triggered, for example, by seismic activity (e.g., Corinthian Gulf faults) and environmental factors (e.g., heavy rainfall). Land subsidence observed during the recent years within the Campus of the University of Patras in Northwestern Peloponnese confirms these spatiotemporal dynamics, with pronounced effects on the existing infrastructure and facilities. Here, we combined satellite remote sensing techniques and in situ geodetic monitoring to better understand these patterns and possible driving mechanisms. Regional-scale land deformations were quantified with active microwave remote sensing techniques (Persistent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar, PSInSAR) based on SAR data from the European Space Agency Sentinel-1 constellation of satellites. Land cover dynamics were characterized with high-resolution optical remote sensing observations (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, NDVI;Planet Labs). The spatiotemporal Sentinel-1 SAR data were processed using the SNAP-StaMPS (SentiNel Application Platform-Stanford Method of Persistent Scatterer) integrated workflow for Persistent Scatterers Interferometry. The PSInSAR analysis resulted in regional-scale displacements of up to a few tens of mm per year. These displacements patterns were explored in tandem with possible land cover changes as detected with the NDVI spatiotemporal dynamics and further refined at the local scale with repeated field surveys during 2022 and 2023 at selected locations within the Campus of the University of Patras that were affected by land subsidence. The combination of remote sensing techniques, together with in situ ground monitoring, provides unique opportunities for monitoring ground deformation in almost real-Time, facilitating thus the assessment of the response of infrastructures to such spatiotemporal changes. © 2023 SPIE. Universities have a difficult task in preparing their students to have competencies according to the needs of the digital era industry. This study aims to determine the effect of hard skills, soft skills, and digital literacy on IT student work readiness. This is quantitative research, and the population is students of informatics engineering at Indraprasta University in semester 7 or 8 who have not worked. The number of samples is as many as 125 students (the minimum sample from the calculation of Slovin with an error rate of 5% is 93). Questionnaires were distributed through a simple random sampling technique. The data were processed using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results of this study obtained the equation Y = 1.821 + 0.757X1 +0.380X2 + 0.306X3 + e. Simultaneously hard skills, soft skills, and digital literacy have a positive and significant 94.3% effect on IT work readiness. Partially, the effect of hard skills (X1), soft skills (X2), and digital literacy (X3) on IT student work readiness (Y) is 37.4%, 34.3%, and 23.6%. This study proves that hard skills (X1), soft skills (X2), and digital literacy (X3) competencies together have a significant effect on IT student work readiness (Y) by 94.3%. © 2022 IEEE.

Even if an explosive number of proposals and prototype systems of blockchain based certificates and verification have been suggested and implemented since 2015, still in the public service areas paper certificates are prevalent. Because of advancement of color duplication and editing tools obtainable at almost no price in the internet, paper certificates are easily forged and modified. For the reason, the verification technology of the paper certificates needs need regressive research and can provide abundant research opportunities. In this research, various research suggestions and technical implementation are reviewed and a new system, called 'one-shot' verification is briefly described. The one-shot verification captures the image and QR code of the printed certificates with mobile devices before sending them to block-chained server. The block-chained server decides whether the printed certificates are tampered or not, with the OCR content by comparing hash value with hash value of the original content. The image OCR of the paper was trained with more than 1,700 images using YOLOv8. In the testing with preprocessing, the technology showed 96% accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

Decarbonization of energy generation is required to address the urgent need to combat climate change and meet the Paris Agreement targets. Photovoltaic Systems (PVS) are a major contributor to this solution, and they are expected to grow significantly faster than any other renewable-energy technology in the coming years due to their appealing features. This paper discusses the development of a two-way communication protocol between two transceivers and a custom-designed communication board installed on each PV array. With this configuration, it is possible to transmit the measurements of each PV cell in the array to a data recording and monitoring service. Additionally, the application can customize the operation of the strings that make up the array, by broadcasting special commands to them. A prototype experimental setup was constructed in order to test the communication between the PV array communication board and the uplink/downlink transceivers. The experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed communication protocol between the Electronics Interface System (EIS) and the Smart PV array since the communication protocol meets the specification for transmitting the information from 1000 smart PV cells within one minute, as well as the strict timing requirements by the protocol for transmitting the parameters to the PV strings. © 2022 ACM.

The most common cause of blindness among diabetics is diabetic retinopathy. This disease must be detected in its early stages as delaying treatment can result in permanent blindness. In today’s modern world with the development of technologies, automated techniques have improved the accuracy and efficiency of detecting and classifying this disease. This study suggests a deep learning model utilizing EfficientNetB0 that focuses on designing a neural network structure that requires fewer parameters and computations compared to traditional architectures. Further to help in increasing the accuracy, the image is being processed with methods like CLAHE which is an image processing algorithm that helps in enhancing the contrast while keeping the noise of the images as low as possible. Also, augmentation is being done on the images and SMOTE is applied to handle class imbalance. We collected the APTOS Blindness Detection dataset consisting of retinal fundus images. The accuracy that is being obtained from the proposed methodology is 98.78% indicating the model's effectiveness in detection and classifying between the various stages of diabetic retinopathy. © 2024 IEEE.
