According to extensible set theory, the definition of extension classification based on extension transformation is presented. The acquiring methods and application on extension classification are discussed on information element set. Through its dependent function values of information element before and after the transformation decide its extension categories and obtain the extension categories knowledge.

This paper proposes a new resource allocation algorithm for uplink OFDMA-based cooperative relay networks assuming multiple source nodes, multiple relay nodes and a single destination. The aim is to maximize the total sum of the sources data rates while guaranteeing fairness among them with different QoS requirements. Assuming perfect channel state information (CSI) at the resource allocation controller. The optimization problem is formulated such that each source is assigned a weight factor based on its QoS requirements, then the ones with high weights are given more priority to select their resources (relay stations and subcarriers) first. Once the required QoS is achieved for all sources, the weight factor for all sources will be unity. The remaining resources are allocated to the sources with maximum instantaneous rate. The results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the greedy and static algorithms in terms of outage probability and fairness.

We refer to channels of communication that link the user to information systems as cognitive communication channels. One especially interesting research topic related to cognitive communication channels deals with a special application called sensory substitution, when information is conveyed through a channel other than the one that is normally used for the given application. Our goal is to develop engineering systems for the remote teleoperation of robots using sensory substitution to convey feedback information in meaningful ways. Such applications could help reduce the cognitive load for the user on the one hand, and help alleviate the effect of control instabilities and hidden parameters on the other. A large part of our research deals with how to provide information on tactile percepts - otherwise inaccessible to the remote user - through sound. In this paper, we present one possible mapping between tactile percepts and auditory parameters. Through a set of controlled experiments, we show that the parameters used are meaningful and the sounds can at some level be learned by users as a substitute for tactile perception. Analyzing the error statistics of the experiments, we argue that it would be worthwhile to create a system in which the sound parameters could be locally tuned to enhance performance on a user-per-user basis. To this end, we convert the analytical descriptions of our sounds into an higher-order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) based tensor product model form. In order to be able to apply a wide range of mathematical analysis tools - such as principal component analysis and user performance-oriented adaptivity - we demonstrate that it is possible to convert our models into such canonical forms.

The main contribution of this paper is a new sliding mode design for nonlinear systems. This method is based on Tensor Product Model Transformation. It is partially extension and combination of the classical optimal manifold design for linear (or linearized) system and sector sliding mode control. This new approach enables a systematic design and decomposition of optimal sliding sector by the High Order Singular Value Decomposition (HOSVD)-based canonical description of a wide class of nonlinear systems. Two design examples and experimental results of a DSP-controlled single-degree-of-freedom motion-control system are presented.

There are several technical or technological field, which borrowed inspirations or hints from nature. This way it could be interesting to study, how a multicellular organism develops, by consecutive cell divisions, differentiations and proliferation, from a single cell. This development could be regarded as a decompression process of a highly compressed database. Following and mimicking this procedure we might be able to create a similar database or image processing transformation and compression method. The aim of our research is, finding the method how certain information is stored in the genome, which relates to the physical location and type of each cell of the body. Finding any such relationship, could help us to develop new image transformation and compression method.

A new algorithm is proposed for the software implementation of modular multiplication, which uses pre-computations with a constant module. The developed modular multiplication algorithm provides high performance in comparison with the already known algorithms, and is oriented at the variable value of the module, especially with the software implementation on micro controllers and smart cards with a small number of bits. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

Dynamic, ECG-gated, steady-state free precession short-axis images were obtained (GE Healthcare, 1.5T) in 8-12 slices in 15 patients with previous myocardial infarction. An expert cardiologist provided the reference values for: 1) left ventricular (LV) volumes and mass, by manually tracing endo and epicardial contours; 2) regional wall motion (WM) interpretation, by grading (normal, abnormal) three slices selected at apical, mid and basal level. Custom software based on image noise distribution and on image gradient was applied, from which end-diastolic (ED) and end-systolic (ES) volumes and mass were computed, as well as regional fractional area change (RFAC), from which automated classification of regional WM abnormality was defined. Comparison with reference values was performed by: 1) linear regression and Bland-Altman analyses for LV volumes and mass; 2) levels of agreement between the cardiologist WM grades and the automated classification. Optimal correlations (r 2 >;.97) and no bias were found for ED and ES volumes, while LV mass resulted in a good correlation (ED: r 2 = .81; ES: r 2 = .74) with a minimal overestimation (ED: 15.2g; ES: 8.7g) and narrow 95% limits of agreement (ED: ±30g; ES: ±33g). The automated interpretation resulted in high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy (78%, 85%, 82%, respectively) of WM abnormalities. Combined automated endo and epicardial border detection from MRI images provides reliable measurements of LV dimensions and regional WM classification.

Allowing robots to communicate naturally with humans is an important goal for social robotics. Most approaches have focused on building high-level probabilistic cognitive models. However, research in cognitive science shows that people often build common ground for communication with each other by seeking and providing evidence of understanding through behaviors like mimicry. Predictive State Representations (PSRs) allow one to build explicit, low-level models of the expected outcomes of actions, and are therefore well-suited for tasks that require providing such evidence of understanding. Using human-robot shadow puppetry as a prototype interaction study, we show that PSRs can be used successfully to both model human interactions, and to allow a robot to learn on-line how to engage a human in an interesting interaction.

The analysis and characterization of biomedical image data is a complex procedure involving several processing phases, like data acquisition, preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. The proper combination and parameterization of the utilized methods are heavily relying on the given image data set and experiment type and may thus require advanced image processing and classification knowledge from the side of the biomedical expert. In this work, an application, exploiting web services and applying ontological modeling, is presented, to enable the intelligent creation of image mining workflows. The described tool can be directly integrated to the Rapid-Miner or similar workflow management platforms. A case study dealing with the creation of a sample workflow for kidney biopsy microscopy images analysis is presented to demonstrate the functionality of the proposed framework.
