A design and implementation model for Web Caching using server 'URL Rewriting'

In order to make surfing the internet faster, and to save redundant processing load with each request for the same web page, many caching techniques have been developed to reduce latency of retrieving data on World Wide Web. In this paper we will give a quick overview of existing web caching techniques used for dynamic web pages then we will introduce a design and implementation model that take advantage of 'URL Rewriting' feature in some popular web servers, e.g. Apache, to provide an effective approach of caching dynamic web pages.

The aim of the Code4Thought project was to deliver a tool supported methodology that would facilitate the evaluation of a software product's quality according toISO/IEC-9126 software engineering quality standard. It was a joint collaboration between Dynacomp S.A. and the Laboratory for Graphics, Multimedia and GIS of the department of computer engineering and informatics of the University of Patras. The Code4thought project focused its research on extending the ISO/IEC-9126standard by employing additional metrics and developing new methods for facilitating system evaluators to define their own set of evaluation attributes. Furthermore, to develop innovative and platform-free methods for the extraction of elements and metrics from source code ***, to design and implement new data mining algorithms tailored for the analysis of software engineering data.

This paper investigates signal and system representations in special rational orthogonal bases of the Hardy space H2. These bases are derived from the Blaschke-group associated to the hyperbolic group SH(n) of matrices. Using the concept of the unitary group representations over H 2, and the voice-transform, specific hyperbolic wavelet constructions - Blaschke-wavelets and the associated Blaschke-Fourier transform are constructed. State space representations of systems over hyperbolic groups are discussed, too, with the purpose to explore the perspectives of elaborating a unified system theory upon this conceptual base. ©2009IEEE.

In this paper, a graphical modeling-based approach to semantic video analysis is presented for jointly realizing modality fusion and temporal context exploitation. Overall, the examined video sequence is initially segmented into shots and for every resulting shot appropriate color, motion and audio features are extracted. Then, Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) are employed for performing an initial association of each shot with the semantic classes that are of interest separately for every modality. Subsequently, an integrated Bayesian Network (BN) is introduced for simultaneously performing information fusion and temporal contextual knowledge exploitation, contrary to the usual practice of performing each task separately. The final outcome of the overall video analysis approach is the association of a semantic class with every shot. Experimental results as well as comparative evaluation from the application of the proposed approach in the domain of news broadcast video are presented.

Over the past decade, dramatic increases in computational power and improvement in image analysis algorithms have allowed the development of powerful computer-assisted analytical approaches to radiological data. With the recent advent of whole slide digital scanners, tissue histopathology slides can now be digitized and stored in digital image form. Consequently, digitized tissue histopathology has now become amenable to the application of computerized image analysis and machine learning techniques. Analogous to the role of computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) algorithms in medical imaging to complement the opinion of a radiologist, CAD algorithms have begun to be developed for disease detection, diagnosis, and prognosis prediction to complement the opinion of the pathologist. In this paper, we review the recent state of the art CAD technology for digitized histopathology. This paper also briefly describes the development and application of novel image analysis technology for a few specific histopathology related problems being pursued in the United States and Europe. © 2009, The institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.

We analyze the structure of equilibria and the price of anarchy in the family of network creation games considered extensively in the past few years, which attempt to unify the network design and network routing problems by modeling both creation and usage costs. In general, the games are played on a host graph, where each node is a selfish independent agent (player) and each edge has a fixed link creation cost α. Together the agents create a network (a subgraph of the host graph) while selfishly minimizing the link creation costs plus the sum of the distances to all other players (usage cost). In this paper, we pursue two important facets of the network creation game. First, we study extensively a natural version of the game, called the cooperative model, where nodes can collaborate and share the cost of creating any edge in the host graph. We prove the first nontrivial bounds in this model, establishing that the price of anarchy is polylogarithmic in n for all values of α in complete host graphs. This bound is the first result of this type for any version of the network creation game;most previous general upper bounds are polynomial in n. Interestingly, we also show that equilibrium graphs have polylogarithmic diameter for the most natural range of α (at most npolylg n). Second, we study the impact of the natural assumption that the host graph is a general graph, not necessarily complete. This model is a simple example of nonuniform creation costs among the edges (effectively allowing weights of α and ∞). We prove the first assemblage of upper and lower bounds for this context, establishing nontrivial tight bounds for many ranges of α, for both the unilateral and cooperative versions of network creation. In particular, we establish polynomial lower bounds for both versions and many ranges of α, even for this simple nonuniform cost model, which sharply contrasts the conjectured constant bounds for these games in complete (uniform) graphs. © E. The discovery of biomarkers and the underlying causes of diseases are enabled through the analysis of biological samples and data stored in biobanks. Biological samples and their associated data are expensive to collect and maintain, and it is important to store and manage them efficiently. During processing, samples and data go through a number of procedures and techniques, which are often in different locations and by individuals with different access permissions. It is essential to maintain the link between the samples and their associated data throughout the processes they undergo. This paper presents a novel system of tracking samples and data from collection through processing to storage and retrieval, which is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This system ensures the security and reliability of sample data as well as locationindependent recording and updating of sample data, as they move along the workflow. ©2009 IEEE.

The technological as well as software advances in microelectronics and embedded component design have led to the development of low cost, small-sized devices capable of forming wireless, ad-hoc networks and sensing a number of qualities of their environment, while performing computations that depend on the sensed qualities as well as information received by their peers. These sensor networks rely on the collective power of the separate devices as well as their computational and sensing capabilities to understand ldquoglobalrdquo environmental states through locally sampled information and local sensor interactions. Due to the locality of the sensor networks, that naturally arises due to the locality of their communications capabilities, a number of interesting connections exist between these networks and geometrical concepts and problems. In this paper we study two simple problems that pertain to the formation of low power and low interference communication patterns in fixed topology sensor networks. We study the problem of using multihop communication links instead of direct ones as well as the problem of forming a communication ring of sensor networks so as to reduce power consumption as well as interference from other nodes. Our focus is on the connection between sensor networks and geometrical concepts, rather than on practicality, so as to highlight their interrelationship.

Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) epitomizes the increasing popularity of enhanced end-user experience in Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), since it allows the economical delivery of multimedia services to a large number of users. MBMS multicast supports both Pomt-to-Point (PTP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PTM) modes in order to confront the strict resource limitations in wireless environments and improve efficiency during data transmission. The aim of this paper is to highlight the performance enhancements of MBMS multicasting over the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and underline the need for its integration in MBMS specifications. HSDPA can play an instrumental role in positioning MBMS services as a key enabler for true Mobile Broadband. Under this prism, we investigate the provision of MBMS services over HSDPA, through a direct comparison between HSDPA and Release '99 bearers. Since downlink transmission power is the most limited resource in UMTS networks, the evaluation is performed via an analytical dimensioning of the MBMS transmission power both in macrocells and microcells. Simulation results reveal that HSDPA can significantly optimize MBMS power allocation, bring more capacity and, consequently, enable the mass-market delivery of rich multimedia services in mobile networks.

This paper explores the resistance of MOS Current MoDe Logic (MCML) against attacks based on the observation of the power consumption. Circuits implemented in MCML, in fact, have unique characteristics both in terms of power consumption and the dependency of the power profile from the input signal pattern. Therefore, MCML is suitable to protect cryptographic hardware from Differential Power Analysis and similar side-channel attacks. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of different logic styles against power analysis attacks, two full cores implementing the AES algorithm were realized and implemented with CMOS and MCML technology, and a set of different types of attack was performed using power traces derived from SPICE-level simulations. Although all keys were discovered for CMOS, MCML traces did not presents characteristic that can lead to a successful attack. ©Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2009.
