Disassembly is the first stage in the process of valorization of the manufactured goods. Due to the degradations of the components, the disassembly of the product could be impossible. In order to maximize the outcome obtained considering the uncertainty of the disassembly process one has to decide the depth of this process. Applying the tools of the decision theory the authors have proposed a method and an application allowing the determination of the optimal disassembly sequence taking into account the considered criterion. © 2003 IFAC.

This pmposes a fuzzy rule-based appmach mr identifying tissue elasticity using ultrasound. The pur-of this identifies automatically tissue elastic-ity. Int rmation of tissue elasticity helps us to diagnose several diseases. Elastography was able to estimate tis-sue elasticity Howeveg this measurement range is lim-ited due to the need of pressure. avoid this limitation, this paper pmp(ßes the identification system without prssure. This inference system consists of two stages. In the first stage, fuzzy membership functions are con-structed by known data of elasticity The second stage identifies elasticity of unknown data by using the mem-functions. We used five different phantoms (total 5 x 10 = 50) of elasticity as known data and applied this system into nine different phantoms (total 9 x 10 = of elasticity as unknown data. As a result, the correlation actual value and identified value was 0.789 and the ermr of mean was 0.646. This system thus acquired smaller ermr ratio than that of the statistical meth(Xl. © 2003 Fuji technology Press. All rights reserved.

In this contribution, a genetic programming based technique, which combines the ability of genetic programming to explore both automatically and effectively, the whole set of candidate model structures and the robustness of evolutionary multimodel partitioning filters, is presented. The method is applied to the nonlinear system identification problem of complex biomedical data. Simulation results show that the algorithm identifies the true model and the true values of the unknown parameters for each different model structure, thus assisting the genetic programming technique to converge more quickly to the (near) optimal model structure. The method has all the known advantages of the evolutionary multimodel partitioning filters, that is, it is not restricted to the Gaussian case, it is applicable to online/adaptive operation and is computationally efficient. Furthermore, it can be realized in a parallel processing fashion, a fact, which makes it amenable to VLSI implementation.

We consider array languages (sets of pictures consisting of symbols placed in the lattice points of the 2D grid) and the possibility to handle them with P systems. After proving binary normal forms for array matrix grammars (which, even in the case when no appearance checking is used, are known to generate the array languages of arbitrary array grammars), we prove that the P systems with context-free rules (with three membranes and no control on the communication or the use of rules) are computationally universal, able to generate all computable array languages. Some open problems are also formulated. © 2003 Kluwer academic Publishers.

Simulation has always been a valuable tool for experimentation and validation of models, architectures and mechanisms in the field of networking. In the case of the DiffServ framework, simulation is even more valuable, due to the fact that an analytical approach of mechanisms and services is infeasible because of the aggregation and multiplexing of flows. In this work, we have extended the functionality of a widely used simulation environment towards the direction of realistic traffic generation and a series of mechanisms defined by the DiffServ architecture. The modules created are being presented and a case study of a simulation scenario that exploits the functionality provided by them is described.

In this paper we describe a mechanism for redundant multicast transmission of multimedia data supporting adaptive QoS over the Internet and we investigate its behaviour using simulation. There are two major issues that have to be considered when designing and implementing such a mechanism, the fairness, which is the ability to cope with receiver heterogeneity, and the adaptation schemes. The proposed mechanism uses a friendly to the network users congestion control policy to control the transmission of the data. We evaluate the adaptive multicast transmission mechanism through a number of simulations in order to examine its behaviour to a heterogeneous group of receivers and its behaviour against TCP and UDP data streams. The main conclusion of the simulation was that the proposed mechanism has friendly behaviour against the dominant traffic types of today's Internet and treats a heterogeneous group of receivers with fairness.

The use of neural networks trained by a new hybrid algorithm is employed on forecasting the Greek Foreign Exchange-Rate Market. Four major currencies, namely the U. S. Dollar (USD), the Deutsche Mark (DEM), the French Franc (FF) and the British Pound (GBP), versus the Greek Drachma, were used as experimental data. The proposed algorithm combines genetic algorithms and a training method based on the localized Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), in order to evolve the structure and train Multi-Layered Perceptron (MLP) neural networks. The goal of this effort is to predict, as accurately as possible, exchange-rates future behavior. Simulation results show that the method gives highly successful results, while the diversification of the structure between the four currencies has no effect on the performance. © 2002 Kluwer academic Publishers.

In this paper, a nonsingular terminal sliding mode concept is introduced for the control of a class of nonlinear dynamical systems. This nonsingular terminal sliding mode control not only enables the Lnite time convergence of the system equilibrium, but also eliminates the singularity problem associated with conventional terminal sliding mode control.
