Kerr electro-optic field mapping measurements have shown strong space charge effects in high voltage stressed dielectrics, where the magnitude and sign of injected charge depends on electrode material. with appropriate choice of electrode material combinations and voltage polarity, it is possible to have uncharged, unipolar charged positive or negative, or bipolar charged dielectric. The bipolar homocharge case lowers the electric field at both electrodes due to space charge shielding and thus allows a higher voltage without breakdown. Charge transport analysis considers the general case of charge injection from both electrodes and solves for the time and space dependences of the electric field and charge distributions and the time dependences of the terminal voltage and current. This analysis extends earlier work by including non-equilibrium charge dissociation and recombination so that the effective ohmic conductivity is not constant but rather varies with time and position due to local net charge density. Specific cases discussed are the open circuit voltage decay of an initially charged capacitor, the charging and discharging by a Marx generator, and alternating voltage excitations.
A bound on the number of extreme points or sides necessary to approximate a convex planar figure by an enclosing polygon is described. This number is found to be proportional to the fourth root of the figure's are...

Adaptation, for purposes of self-healing, self-protection, self-management, or self-regulation, is currently considered to be one of the most challenging pr- erties of distributed systems that operate in dynamic, unpredictable, and - tentially hostile environments. engineering for adaptation is particularly c- plicated when the distributed system itself is composed of autonomous entities that, on one hand, may act collaboratively and with benevolence, and, on the other, maybehavesel?***,theseentities have to coordinate themselves in order to adapt appropriately to the prevailing environmental conditions, and furthermore, to deliberate upon their own and the system’s con?guration, and to be transparent to their users yet consistent with any human requirements. The question, therefore, of “how to organize the envisagedadaptationforsuchautonomousentitiesinasystematicway”becomes of paramount importance. The ?rst international workshop on “Organized Adaptation in Multi-Agent Systems” (OAMAS) was a one-day event held as part of the workshop p- gram arranged by the international conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS). It was hosted in Estoril during May, 2008, and was attended by more than 30 researchers. OAMAS was the steady convergence of a number of lines of research which suggested that such a workshop would be timely and opportune. This includes the areas of autonomic computing, swarm intelligence, agent societies, self-organizing complex systems, and ‘emergence’ in general.

The book starts with a self-contained introduction to artificial neural networks, deep learning models, supervised learning algorithms, evolutionary algorithms, and evolutionary learning. Concise information is then presented on multi-party secure computation, differential privacy, and homomorphic encryption, followed by a detailed description of federated learning. In turn, the book addresses the latest advances in federate learning research, especially from the perspectives of communication efficiency, evolutionarylearning, and privacy preservation.;The book is particularly well suited for graduate students, academicresearchers, and industrial practitioners in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence. It can also be used as a self-learning resource for readers with a science or engineering background, or as a reference text for graduate courses.

This book is dedicated to Marek Sergot, Professor in Computational Logic at Imperial College London, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Professor Sergot’s scientific contributions range over many different fields. He has developed a series of novel ideas and formal methods bridging areas including artificial intelligence, computational logic, philosophical logic, legal theory, artificial intelligence and law, multi-agent systems and bioinformatics. By combining his background in logic and computing with his interest in the law, deontic logic, action, and related areas, and applying to all his capacity to understand the subtleties of social interaction and normative reasoning, Professor Sergot has opened up new directions of research, and has been a reference, an inspiration, and a model for many researchers in the fields to which he has contributed. The Festschrift includes several reminiscences and introductory essays describing Professor Sergot's achievements, followed by a series of articles on logic programming, temporal reasoning and action languages, artificial intelligence and law, deontic logic and norm-governed systems, and logical approaches to policies.

This volume contains papers from the technical program of the 7th Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2010), held from May 30 to June 3, 2010, in Heraklion, Greece. ESWC 2010 presented the latest results in research and applications of Semantic Web technologies. ESWC 2010 built on the success of the former European Semantic Web Conference series, but sought to extend its focus by engaging with other communities within and outside Information and Communication Technologies, in which semantics can play an important role. At the same time, ESWC has become a truly international conference. Semantics of Web content, enriched with domain theories (ontologies), data about Web usage, natural language processing, etc., will enable a Web that p- vides a qualitatively new level of functionality. It will weave together a large network of human knowledge and make this knowledge machine-processable. Various automated services, based on reasoning with metadata and ontologies, will help the users to achieve their goals by accessing and processing infor- tion in machine-understandable form. This network of knowledge systems will ultimately lead to truly intelligent systems, which will be employed for va- ous complex decision-making tasks. research about Web semantics can bene?t from ideas and cross-fertilization with many other areas: arti?cial intelligence, natural language processing, database and information systems, information - trieval, multimedia, distributed systems, social networks, Web engineering, and Web science.
