In this work, we propose a novel method for generating inter-lingual document representations using neural network concept compression. The presented approach is intended to improve the quality of content-based multilingual document recommendation and information retrieval systems by creating a language-independent representation. The main idea is to use mappings to align monolingual representation spaces, using concept compression, to create inter-lingual representations. The proposed approach outperforms traditional cross-lingual retrieval and recommendations methods in experiments conducted on JRC-Acquis and EU bookshop multilingual corpora. WEIGHTED SUM OF SEGMENTED CORRELATION: AN EFFICIENT METHOD FOR SPECTRA MATCHING IN HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGES

Matching a target spectrum with known spectra in a spectral library is a common method for material identification in hyperspectral imaging research. Hyperspectral spectra exhibit precise absorption features across different wavelength segments, and the unique shapes and positions of these absorptions create distinct spectral signatures for each material, aiding in their identification. Therefore, only the specific positions can be considered for material identification. This study introduces the Weighted Sum of Segmented Correlation method, which calculates correlation indices between various segments of a library and a test spectrum, and derives a matching index, favoring positive correlations and penalizing negative correlations using assigned weights. The effectiveness of this approach is evaluated for mineral identification in hyperspectral images from both Earth and Martian surfaces. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Intelligent supply line surveillance is critical for modern smart grids. Smart sensors and gateway nodes are strategically deployed along supply lines to achieve intelligent surveillance. They collect data continuously and transmit it to the control centre in real-time. It enables real-time monitoring, fault detection, and efficient energy management across distribution networks. This advanced surveillance system ensures continuous monitoring of supply lines, detecting anomalies, and optimizing operations to maintain the stability and reliability of the smart grid. However, the reliance of all participating nodes on public communication channels to transmit supply line surveillance data exposes these systems to critical cyber attacks. These cyber attacks include impersonation, physical tampering, ephemeral secret leakage, and desynchronization attacks. To address these issues, existing key-exchange protocols often fail to ensure robust security while imposing high computation and communication overheads, limiting their practicality for resource-constrained environments. Therefore, we propose a secure and efficient key exchange and tamper-resistant authentication protocol using Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). The PUF mechanism provides robust resistance against physical tampering and cloning attacks, ensuring enhanced physical security for supply line devices. We validate the security robustness of the devised protocol using the Random or Real (ROR) model. Furthermore, informal security analysis demonstrates the protocol's robustness in rigorously resisting various attacks, including physical tampering, impersonation, ephemeral secret leakage and desynchronization. Moreover, we determine the performance evaluation that reveals the protocol's superior efficiency compared to competing protocols, achieving significant reductions of 28.64% in computation overhead and 9.96% in communication overhead. © 2014 IEEE.

Minimum Mean Squared Error Holographic Beamforming for Sum-Rate Maximization

This paper studies the problem of hybrid holographic beamforming for sum-rate maximization in a communication system assisted by a reconfigurable holographic surface. Existing methodologies predominantly rely on gradient-based or approximation techniques necessitating iterative optimization for each update of the holographic response, which imposes substantial computational overhead. To address these limitations, we establish a mathematical relationship between the mean squared error (MSE) criterion and the holographic response of the RHS to enable alternating optimization based on the minimum MSE (MMSE). Our analysis demonstrates that this relationship exhibits a quadratic dependency on each element of the holographic beamformer. Exploiting this property, we derive closed-form optimal expressions for updating the holographic beamforming weights. Our complexity analysis indicates that the proposed approach exhibits only linear complexity in terms of the RHS size, thus, ensuring scalability for large-scale deployments. The presented simulation results validate the effectiveness of our MMSE-based holographic approach, providing useful insights. © 2025, CC BY.

In protein identification, researchers increasingly aim to achieve efficient classification using fewer features. While many feature selection methods effectively reduce the number of model features, they often cause information loss caused by merely selecting or discarding features, which limits classifier performance. To address this issue, we present Rore, an algorithm based on a feature-dimensionality reduction strategy. By mapping the original features to a latent space, Rore retains all relevant feature information while using fewer representations of the latent features. This approach significantly preserves the original information and overcomes the information loss problem associated with previous feature selection. Through extensive experimental validation and analysis, Rore demonstrated excellent performance on an antioxidant protein dataset, achieving an accuracy of 95.88% and MCC of 91.78%, using vectors including only 15 features. Diffusion models have garnered significant attention for MRI Super-Resolution (SR) and have achieved promising results. However, existing diffusion-based SR models face two formidable challenges: 1) insufficient exploitation of complementary information from multi-contrast images, which hinders the faithful reconstruction of texture details and anatomical structures;and 2) reliance on fixed magnification factors, such as 2× or 4×, which is impractical for clinical scenarios that require arbitrary scale magnification. To circumvent these issues, this paper introduces IM-Diff, an implicit multi-contrast diffusion model for arbitrary-scale MRI SR, leveraging the merits of both multi-contrast information and the continuous nature of implicit neural representation (INR). Firstly, we propose an innovative hierarchical multi-contrast fusion (HMF) module with reference-aware cross Mamba (RCM) to effectively incorporate target-relevant information from the reference image into the target image, while ensuring a substantial receptive field with computational efficiency. Secondly, we introduce multiple wavelet INR magnification (WINRM) modules into the denoising process by integrating the wavelet implicit neural non-linearity, enabling effective learning of continuous representations of MR images. The involved wavelet activation enhances space-frequency concentration, further bolstering representation accuracy and robustness in INR. Extensive experiments on three public datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method over existing state-of-the-art SR models across various magnification factors. © 2013 IEEE.

Natural Language Processing nowadays provides scientists with many research areas and opportunities, but as with most applied sciences, our goal in Natural Language Processing is to refine the underlying science and technology until it can be used reliably for business purposes. Transformer models, such as GPT or BERT, are currently showing outstanding results in the field of natural-language processing, but they require huge computational power and data to teach, but these conditions can only be met by larger research centers and large companies, and their inaccuracy makes them unsuitable for use as a 'business as usual' (BAU) solution. In this paper, we present a solution that is able to overcome these problems by focusing on accuracy and usability, and that can also bring a new perspective to the process of teaching deep learning models. © 2023 IEEE.

Design workshops are a popular approach to include older adults in the technology design process. However, formative design sessions with older adults have had unexpected outcomes such as the non-use of traditional design materials like craft-based prototyping supplies or disengagement from design activities. Analyzing the engagement of 32 older adults across two design workshops, this paper sheds insights on some of these outcomes. Contributing to a growing body of HCI research on understanding older adults' participation in design, we provide an understanding of how design materials can shape older adults' engagement in formative design activities. Our discussion furthers research on understanding who older adults design for and why, argues for a different understanding of creative expression, and offers considerations for choosing design materials. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
