A stroke, also known as brain attack, occurs when blood supply to your brain is interrupted. Primary prevention relies on prompt prediction of a stroke. While currently there are several clinical risk scores, machine learning (ML) models seems to be more suitable tools for accurate prediction of stroke events. Therefore, this work focuses on the prediction of stroke within 7 years follow-up in patients who have not suffered from a stroke or TIA event at baseline. LightGBM (LGBM), Extreme Grading Boosting (XGBoost), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Decision Tree were employed in the getABI dataset, which includes 5,897 participants. The performance of models was calculated by Accuracy (ACC), Sensitivity (SENS), Specificity (SPE) and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of each model. According to the comparison analysis's results, LGBM has been shown to be the most trustworthy algorithm, with accuracy 68 %. Moreover, sex, age, status of peripheral artery disease (PAD), history of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, amputation and diabetes and pulse status of different arteries can be used as a simple and cost-effective way to predict *** Relevance: A fatal medical emergency, stroke may be anticipated using artificial intelligence, and the sooner it is predicted, the more cerebrovascular disease occurrences can be avoided. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper considers one dimensional unsteady heat condition in a media with temperature dependent thermal conductivity. When the thermal conductivity depends on the temperature, the corresponding heat equation is nonlinear. At one or both boundaries, a relaxing boundary condition is applied. It is a time dependent condition that approaches continuously, as time increases, a certain time independent condition. Such behavior at the boundaries arises naturally in some physical systems. As an example, we propose a simple model system that can give rise to either Dirichlet or convective relaxing boundary condition. Due to the dependence of the thermal conductivity on the temperature, the convective condition is nonlinear. For the solution of the problem, we propose a new numerical approach that first discretizes the heat equation in time, whereby a sequence of two-point boundary value problems (TPBVPs) is obtained. We use implicit time discretization, which provides for unconditional stability of the method. If the initial condition is given, we can solve consecutively the TPBVPs and get approximations of the temperature at the different time levels. For the solution of the TPBVPs, we apply the finite difference method. The arising nonlinear systems are solved by Newton’s method. Machine learning, particularly Support Vector Machines (SVM), has gained popularity in geospatial data processing and image classification. Geospatial data from various sources may contain errors, impacting image classification accuracy. Traditional pixel-based and object-based methods struggle to classify complex land cover classes accurately. Previous studies explored machine learning algorithms like Random Forests, K-Nearest Neighbors, and Neural Networks. Still, they faced challenges capturing intricate relationships within images and required substantial labeled training data, leading to computational expenses. SVM with polynomial kernels was attempted in some studies, but it suffered from potential overfitting and inefficiency for large datasets. To overcome these issues, this study employed SVM with RBF and Linear kernels to classify multispectral satellite images from the SPOT-6 Satellite Imagery dataset in Sungai Kelang, Malaysia. Previous research evaluated each kernel’s performance accuracy compared using a test dataset, utilizing open-source tools like Jupyter Notebooks and Python libraries to explore SVM’s potential as a high-performance satellite image classification technique. The findings revealed that SVM with RBF kernel outperformed SVM with polynomial or linear kernels in classifying satellite images. The RBF kernel’s robustness allowed SVM to model intricate decision boundaries and capture complex patterns in the image data, making it suitable for tasks with non-linearly separable data. The study introduces a new methodology and theoretical contribution to image classification-related literature, shedding light on the efficacy of SVM-RBF for geospatial data processing. It provides an alternative to traditional approaches for complex image classification tasks. IoT BotScan: Ultra-Lightweight AI Defense Against Botnet Threats

This research study examines the effectiveness of Deep Learning (DL) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms in identifying BotNet attacks within network infrastructures. Various algorithms, including Random Forests (RF), Decision Trees (DT), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, were evaluated using the N-BaIoT dataset, which encompasses multiple BotNet attack types. The findings indicate that ML models, specifically RF and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), demonstrate superior performance in terms of recall, precision, and overall accuracy compared to DL methods, with KNN achieving the highest accuracy of 99.94% followed by RF and ETC (99.55%). Among DL models, CNN has the highest accuracy (86.20%). The study focuses on multiclass classification (11 classes) and employs 10-fold cross-validation to enhance model robustness and mitigate overfitting. Notably, the research emphasizes the significance of feature engineering and selection techniques in enhancing model performance by identifying critical indicators of BotNet activity. A key contribution of this study is the lightweight RF approach, which minimizes the number of features to reduce complexity. The insights gained from this research provide valuable information for academics and cybersecurity practitioners, aiding in the development of proactive defenses against evolving BotNet threats and promoting the advancement of resilient security measures for network infrastructures. © 2013 IEEE.

3D reconstruction based on single view aims to reconstruct the entire 3D shape of an object from one *** existing methods reconstruct the mesh surface of complex objects,the surface details are difficult to predict and the reconstruction visual effect is poor because the mesh representation is not easily integrated into the deep learning framework;the 3D topology is easily limited by predefined templates and inflexible,and unnecessary mesh self-intersections and connections will be generated when reconstructing complex topology,thus destroying the surface details;the training of the reconstruction network is limited by the large amount of information attached to the mesh vertices,and the training time of the reconstructed network is too *** this paper,we propose a method for fast mesh reconstruction from single view based on Graph Convolutional Network(GCN)and topology *** use GCN to ensure the generation of high-quality mesh surfaces and use topology modification to improve the flexibility of the ***,a feature fusion method is proposed to make full use of the features of each stage of the image *** use 3D open dataset ShapeNet to train our network and add a new weight parameter to speed up the training *** experiments demonstrate that our method can not only reconstruct object meshes on complex topological surfaces,but also has better qualitative and quantitative results.

In this article, we consider the case in which a swarm of robots collaborates in a mission, where a few of the robots behave maliciously. These malicious Byzantine robots may be temporally or constantly controlled by an adversary. The scope is synchronized full information robot operations, where a robot that does not follow the program/policy of the swarm is immediately identified and can be remembered as Byzantine. As robots may be suspected of being Byzantine due to benign temporal malfunctions, it is imperative to forgive and forget, otherwise, a robot cannot assume collaborative actions with any other robot in the swarm. Still, remembering for a while may facilitate a policy of surrounding, isolating and freezing the movement of the misbehaving robots, by several robots, allowing the rest to perform the swarm task with no intervention. We demonstrate the need to periodically forgive and forget to realize swarm several tasks including patrolling/cleaning in the presence of possible Byzantine robots. The policy for achieving the task consists of blocking the movement of the Byzantine robot(s) by some of the robots, while the rest patrol/clean the plane. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Ensuring reliable communication can be incredibly challenging in emergencies due to the breakdown of conventional infrastructure. However, a promising solution is on the horizon: the integration of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) onto unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), known as UAV-RIS. This innovative approach holds the potential to offer agile and adaptable communication services during crises, overcoming the limitations of traditional systems. This paper establishes an innovative UAV-RIS system with an active RIS to enhance the uplink communication between ground devices (GDs) and the air base station (ABS). We present an advanced communication strategy utilizing deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for UAV-RIS-supported uplink communication in dynamic emergencies. This scheme is designed to optimize the energy efficiency of the UAV-RIS communication system while adhering to quality of service (QoS) constraints for all GDs. It achieves this by jointly optimizing the trajectory of the UAV-RIS and the phase of the active RIS, ensuring efficient and reliable communication in challenging environments. To optimize the performance of the system, we propose a hierarchical Proximal Policy Optimization (H-PPO) algorithm and the upper and lower layers of H-PPO optimize the trajectory and phase control, respectively. Simulation results demonstrate that our scheme can effectively learn the communication strategy to enhance the performance of dynamic emergency communication networks. © 2024 IEEE.

In today's world, we come across children facing certain disabilities which pose as obstacles and hinder their academic growth. Some of these disabilities are explicitly visible to the common eye, whereas some are hard to find and need extra attention. One such condition is Motor Dysgraphia which challenges an individual's ability to write. The common practice that is followed to identify such a condition among children is quite expensive and creates a mental strain on them. There are many intelligent computational methods that have been proposed with bearing a wide range of performances, however they are not quite standardized for assessment. Fortunately the advancements in Deep Learning techniques have been proven beneficial in automating this identification task. In this study, Learning Disability Detection system is built using Deep Learning techniques. The project's application is mainly focused on the pre-school and primary school children. This model analyses the child's handwriting and classifies whether the child is subjected to such a disorder or not. Deep Learning models - Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Vision Transformers are adapted and their Disability Detection performances are analyzed and compared. © 2022 IEEE.

Human Gesture Recognition (HGR) has become an increasingly important research area in recent years, driven by the need for more natural and intuitive ways of interacting with machines. Wearable smart devices, such as smartwatches, smart wristbands, and other wrist-worn devices have the potential to enable accurate and efficient gesture recognition in real-world settings. However, equivalent problems, such as object detection in computer vision and audio identification in audio analysis, have obtained enormous advantages from comprehensive datasets over the last years, for instance, ImageNet and AudioSet, accordingly. This paper proposes the structure and the creation of a preliminary version of GestureSet, an HGR large-scale multitask dataset, which includes manually annotated data of gesture events that were collected from wrist-worn devices. In particular, it proposes a hierarchy abstraction schema for the proper dataset structure and instantiates the basis of the dataset through the first HGR task that is related to the collection and annotation of gestures related to allergic rhinitis identification. Thus, through this preliminary version, we describe how the proper dataset structure is divided into different groups, each one including sessions, individual gestures, and pilot data that could be used for evaluating the learning algorithms' performance in real-world scenarios. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt that envisions a unified dataset for various HGR tasks that can find applications in different domains. Our vision, specifically, is for this work to set the basis for the dataset enrichment in a wide range of various tasks, and its data to be used in multiple learning and identification settings, providing circularity in different domains, and enabling reproducibility of the dataset's gestures events.

With the rapid increase in social media usage, there has been a corresponding surge in user-generated content (UGC) being generated on a daily basis. This has created a demand for efficient and effective real-time text classification of UGC to monitor and extract valuable insights for businesses and organizations. Our goal in doing this systematic review was to compile all of the most up-to-date information on the best practices for user-generated content (UGC) text categorization in real-time on social media. Various sources, such as academic databases, digital libraries, and online periodicals, are combed through to find relevant material for the review. The focus is primarily on recent research conducted between 2015 and 2023, with an emphasis on identifying emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in the field. The review critically examines the different approaches employed for text classification, encompassing machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing techniques. Furthermore, it explores the specific social media platforms where text classification is carried out, such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The review highlights the key challenges associated with real-time text classification of UGC, such as handling large data volumes, dealing with language ambiguity, and the need for continuous training and updates. Additionally, the study underscores the potential opportunities for future research in this domain, such as the development of hybrid models that combine multiple approaches to enhance accuracy and scalability. The insights gained from this systematic review will be valuable for researchers, practitioners, and businesses engaged in real-time text classification of UGC on social media platforms. © 2024 IEEE.
