We apply an information-theoretic perspective to reconsider generative document retrieval (GDR), in which a document x ∈ X is indexed by t ∈ T, and a neural autoregressive model is trained to map queries Q to T. GDR can be considered to involve information transmission from documents X to queries Q, with the requirement to transmit more bits via the indexes T. By applying Shannon's rate-distortion theory, the optimality of indexing can be analyzed in terms of the mutual information, and the design of the indexes T can then be regarded as a bottleneck in GDR. After reformulating GDR from this perspective, we empirically quantify the bottleneck underlying GDR. Finally, using the NQ320K and MARCO datasets, we evaluate our proposed bottleneck-minimal indexing method in comparison with various previous indexing methods, and we show that it outperforms those methods. Breast cancer is a devastating disease that affects women worldwide, and computer-aided algorithms have shown potential in automating cancer diagnosis. Recently Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) opens new possibilities for addressing the challenges of labeled data scarcity and accurate prediction in critical applications. However, a lack of diversity, as well as unrealistic and unreliable data, have a detrimental impact on performance. Therefore, this study proposes an augmentation scheme to address the scarcity of labeled data and data imbalance in medical datasets. This approach integrates the concepts of the Gaussian-Laplacian pyramid and pyramid blending with similarity measures. In order to maintain the structural properties of images and capture inter-variability of patient images of the same category similarity-metric-based intermixing has been introduced. It helps to maintain the overall quality and integrity of the dataset. Subsequently, deep learning approach with significant modification, that leverages transfer learning through the usage of concatenated pre-trained models is applied to classify breast cancer histopathological images. The effectiveness of the proposal, including the impact of data augmentation, is demonstrated through a detailed analysis of three different medical datasets, showing significant performance improvement over baseline models. The proposal has the potential to contribute to the development of more accurate and reliable approach for breast cancer diagnosis. IEEE

The use of computers and the internet has spread rapidly over the course of the past few decades. Every day, more and more people are coming to rely heavily on the internet. When it comes to the field of information security, the subject of security is one that is becoming an increasingly important focus. It is vital to design a powerful intrusion detection system in order to prevent computer hackers and other intruders from effectively getting into computer networks or systems. This can be accomplished by: (IDS). The danger and attack detection capabilities of the computer system are built into the intrusion detection system. Abuse has occurred and can be used to identify invasions when there is a deviation between a preset pattern of intrusion and an observed pattern of intrusion. An intrusion detection system (IDS) is a piece of hardware (or software) that is used to generate reports for a Management Station as well as monitor network and/or system activities for unethical behaviour or policy violations. In the current study, an approach known as machine learning is suggested as a possible paradigm for the development of a network intrusion detection system. The results of the experiment show that the strategy that was suggested improves the capability of intrusion detection. © 2023 IEEE.

In human life, skin cancer is a curse. If not appropriately diagnosed, it spreads around all body parts in the earlier stage. The melanoma skin cancer death rate is 75% all over the world. There is an urgent need for a cure to be in place. Swarm and evolutionary computation for healthcare deals with real-world healthcare applications. One of the best ways to do this is to find the genes that need to be turned off such that only cancer cells can die. The current therapies used to cure cancer focus on turning off cancer cells but, at times, affect healthy tissues. Using the power of Artificial Intelligence, one can easily mark out the cancer-affected area and provide treatment accordingly. Segmentation techniques can be used to mark cancer lesions, and advanced deep learning algorithms in computer vision can help classify which class of cancer lesions. Automatic detection of melanoma by using a dermoscopic sample is tricky to find the stage and percentage of lesions affected by using deep convolutional neural networks with the help of machine vision tools. To predict skin lesions, we developed a model with three layers, each having output channels of 16, 32, and 64, respectively. For this research, different samples were collected from the international skin imaging collaboration database (ISIC2019, ISIC2020, ISIC2021). The study computed the most important parameters for classifying and identifying the lesion with accuracy, precision, recall, and specificity values. The proposed DCNN model classifier attained an accuracy of 88.82%, 93.45%, and 95.15% with the respective datasets of ISIC2019, ISIC2020, and ISIC2021, indicating high performance compared with the other state-of-the-art networks. The proposed model is a better framework for automating early detection and classification of melanoma skin cancer to protect many lives and avoid mishaps. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

In the era of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the unprecedented scale and complexity of data collection, processing, and analysis pose significant privacy challenges. This paper presents a survey, providing a comprehensive and focused overview of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) designed to mitigate these challenges and ensure the protection of sensitive information. We explore cryptographic and non-cryptographic techniques including differential privacy (DP), homomorphic encryption (HE), secure multi-party computation (SMPC), and federated learning (FL). Each of these techniques is examined in terms of its basic principles and advantages. Also, some key challenges and ethical issues for implementing PETs are briefly discussed. Text semantic similarity computation is a fundamental problem in the field of natural language processing. In recent years, text semantic similarity algorithms based on deep learning have become the mainstream research paradigm, but they suffer from the problem of insufficient understanding of text semantics and thus unclear interpretation of computational results. In this paper, we propose a text semantic encoding model combining Frame semantic theory and deep learning, which enriches the semantic representation within sentences by making full use of the Frame, Frame Elements, lexical units, and inter-Frame relations in the Frame semantic knowledge base and combining them with the Bert model, and interacts with the semantics between sentences through Siamese Transformer encoders. The experiments are validated on MSRParaphraseCorpus and quora-question-pairs, and the results show that the model proposed in this paper outperforms similar models in terms of F1 values. © 2023 SPIE.

The integration of human resources and artificial intelligence has shown a growing interest in automatically predicting personality traits, particularly in recruitment. To contribute to this field, we propose a new method to assist human resource professionals in Indonesia to identify candidates' personality traits. Biases come from personality tests due to their question format and susceptibility to manipulation on this research, we propose an approach that combines personality tests using the BFI form, which measures OCEAN personality traits, with personality trait predictions derived from Twitter data. This research aims to create a personality prediction model and system that efficiently and effectively screens candidate personality traits in human resources. This research has developed a novel model that combines personality test results with tweets personality prediction with an impressive F1-macro performance of 98%. © 2023 IEEE.

Driver fatigue detection is increasingly recognized as critical for enhancing road safety. This study introduces a method for detecting driver fatigue using the SEED-VIG dataset, a well-established benchmark in EEG-based vigilance analysis. By employing advanced pattern recognition technologies, including machine learning and deep neural networks, EEG signals are meticulously analyzed to discern patterns indicative of fatigue. This methodology combines feature extraction with a classification framework to improve the accuracy of fatigue detection. The proposed NLMDA-Net reached an impressive accuracy of 83.71% in detecting fatigue from EEG signals by incorporating two novel attention modules designed specifically for EEG signals, the channel and depth attention modules. NLMDA-Net effectively integrate features from multiple dimensions, resulting in improved classification performance. This success stems from integrating temporal convolutions and attention mechanisms, which effectively interpret EEG data. Designed to capture both temporal and spatial characteristics of EEG signals, deep learning classifiers have proven superior to traditional methods. The results of this study reveal a substantial enhancement in detection rates over existing models, highlighting the efficacy of the proposed approach for practical applications. The implications of this research are profound, extending beyond academic realms to inform the development of more sophisticated driver assistance systems. Incorporating this fatigue detection algorithm into these systems could significantly reduce fatigue-related incidents on the road, thus fostering safer driving conditions. This paper provides an exhaustive analysis of the dataset, methods employed, results obtained, and the potential real-world applications of the findings, aiming to contribute significantly to advancements in automotive safety. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Mobile wireless sensor networks (MWSNs) have been a hot topic of research, and numerous routing methods have been developed to increase energy efficiency and extend longevity. Nodes close to the sink often use more energy to transmit data from their neighbors to the sink, which causes them to run out of energy faster. These places are also referred to as rendezvous points, and choosing the best one is a hard task. The likelihood of choosing an ideal node as the rendezvous point will be extremely low because hierarchical algorithms only use their local information to select these places. The warm spot problem is addressed from four angles in this work using the Enhanced Power-Efficient Gathering in Sensor Information Systems (EPEGASIS) technique. In order to limit the amount of energy used during transmission, the ideal communication distance is first calculated. To balance the energy consumption among the nodes, mobile sink technology is employed once a threshold value is set to safeguard the dying nodes. The node can then modify its communication range based on how far away the sink node is from it. Thorough testing has been done to demonstrate that our suggested EPEGASIS works better in terms of longevity, drive usage, and web latency. © 2023 by the authors of this article. Road is an essential transportation infrastructure to move people and goods to support economic prosperity. The efficiency, safety, security, and comfort of people have significant consequences by damage and defects on the road surface. A good-condition road ensures the land traffic runs well. This research is a collaboration between the Bandung institute of technology and the department of Public Works and Spatial Planning of West Java Province to develop a smart system for road damage surveys. The system was built by leveraging machine vision and IoT technologies to improve the performance of the road survey activities. The previous road damage detection, classification method, and pavement condition index (IKP) computation were performed semi-automatically. The proposed survey system developed in this work uses the Canny edge Detection algorithm and MobileNet V2 architecture to detect road defects automatically. The pavement condition index computation also improved by using the interpolation reduction factor. The system is designed into a four-layer architecture that consists of several functions and modules, i.e., the sensor system that includes a vision sensor, GPS and odometry, a hardware embedded system using a microcontroller, and machine learning to process the road condition image automatically, and a dashboard application to reveal the road condition on map. The performance resulted in accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score of the road damage detection are 54.5%, 24.2%, 78.9%, and 37%, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.
