Sri Lanka faces drinking water related issues often due to many reasons like weather changes, floods, droughts, and tsunamis, affecting the drinking water availability. In such inst.nces, people find difficult to gather information regarding consumable drinking water availability. In order to facilitate the meeting of commercial water sellers and customers and to engage the general public and social services in addressing the drinking water problem, this study is focused on building both web and mobile applications. The web application was implemented with a selected set of functionalities such as social login, social sharing, geocoding, reverse geocoding, viewing, and filtering posts using Angular 6, *** web framework, and Leaflet. The mobile application was developed to direct the customers to the water availability location with a shortest path using the Dijkstra's algorithm. Case evaluation was conducted with the Rotaract Club members in Badulla and thinking aloud method was used to pick up the user's ideas while interacting with the system. It can be concluded that the created web and mobile applications would offer the public a clever way to draw attention to an issue with water availability, and the commercial water service providers are given a venue to market their services and locate potential customers. © 2023 IEEE.

In quantum computing, although correspondences between quantum circuits and polynomials have been explored, a correspondence between a quantum circuit and a low-degree polynomial, even a linear function has not fully clarified. In this paper, a quantum circuit approximating a linear function for building piecewise linear functions, is proposed. First, for qubit operations, a dimensionless form in $[0,1]$ of a linear function is provided. Secondly, a theorem of a parameterized quantum circuit approximating linear functions are provided. Thirdly, by using Yao: an open source Julia package, the quantum circuit simulation results to approximate the linear functions are presented. Finally, the principal results are summarized.

With the explosion of data, Wireless Edge Caching (WEC) has become a promising approach for locally accessing cached contents. Due to the limited storage capacity of local caching devices and the varying preferences of humans for content, it is necessary to predict popular contents. In this article, we will address two distinct objectives: 1) Popularity prediction of the content that should be cached at the edge to effectively utilize edge device memory. 2) Edge devices collaboration for efficient content delivery. Accordingly, we propose an FL-based Star Cooperative Caching (FedStar Caching), utilizing a Star network topology for realizing an efficient cooperation among Femto-cell Access Points (FAPs) using a Decision Center (DC) to enhance power efficiency and delay performance. Considering human sensitivity to privacy, collecting users’ data on a central server is not desirable, therefore, we leverage Federated Learning (FL) to alleviate this challenge. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms alternatives in terms of cache efficiency, as well as delay and power consumption.

Curriculum changes have a significant impact on the field of education in Indonesia, especially in universities. This is because the curriculum is used as a means to achieve the goals of educational success as well as guidelines in the implementation of teaching at every level of education. This study aims to determine public sentiment regarding the implementation curriculum of independent learning (MBKM) through Twitter based on Naïve Bayes with Laplace Estimator. Tweet search results use the keywords “kurikulum mbkm” and “mbkm”. The data used in this study amounted to 2500 tweet data which will be divided into 2000 data as training data with details of 1000 positive tweets and 1000 negative tweets and 500 data as testing data. The results showed the performance of Naïve Bayes using Laplace Estimator which resulted in an accuracy value of 80.20%, precision value of 82.00%, and recall value of 79.00%. Meanwhile, the performance of Naïve Bayes without Laplace Estimator resulted in an accuracy value of 77.00%, precision value of 80.00%, and recall value of 74.00%. Naive Bayes with Laplace Estimator reached the highest value in all metrics.

Leveraging Highly Approximated Multipliers in DNN Inference

In this work, we present a control variate approximation technique that enables the exploitation of highly approximate multipliers in Deep Neural Network (DNN) accelerators. Our approach does not require retraining and significantly decreases the induced error due to approximate multiplications, improving the overall inference accuracy. As a result, our approach enables satisfying tight accuracy loss constraints while boosting the power savings. Our experimental evaluation, across six different DNNs and several approximate multipliers, demonstrates the versatility of our approach and shows that compared to the accurate design, our control variate approximation achieves the same performance, 45% power reduction, and less than 1% average accuracy loss. Compared to the corresponding approximate designs without using our technique, our approach improves the accuracy by 1.9x on average. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a simple single-carrier PWM (SC-PWM) method based on the multi-modulation technique and using the redundant switching states of the 5-level hybrid multilevel dc-link inverter to balance the dc-link voltage. The proposed SC-PWM reduces the dc-link capacitor-voltage ripple, thereby reducing the voltage stress on the switches and improving the reliability of the inverter by eliminating all the low-fundamental frequency voltage oscillations in the capacitor voltage in the full range of power factors. Additionally, the proposed modulation strategy achieves a 2-fold reduction in the size of the output filter while reducing the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage and current. The feasibility of the proposed scheme over other modulation techniques is confirmed in a comparative analysis. Finally, the steady-state performances of the SC-PWM strategy are demonstrated in simulations and experiments.

Markerless-based is the method in Augmented Reality (AR) to augmentation 3D objects in the frame. One of the challenges in markerless AR is to extract features as input data training on markerless AR. One of algorithm for feature extraction of object target is FAST corner detection in image processing. This paper uses FAST corner detection for feature extraction on Augmented Reality Markerless based with the aim to improve performance of augmentation objects in AR. The User Defined Target and Extended Tracking are to improve convenience and reliability of the AR. The aim is can trace 3D objects even the 3D object invisible. The results show that maximum environment for the best augmentation is intensity in of 80-190 cd. © 2021 IEEE.

Undergraduate (UG) Undergraduate (UG) research is a high-impact practice that has been shown to benefit students' development and has the potential to contribute to faculty research output. However, UG research does not attain the impact that it could have on student development or faculty research productivity. Faculty doing UG research face two main challenges: continuity and efficiency. Continuity is important for faculty to achieve research goals. However, onboarding, training, and mentoring UG researchers can be an inefficient, time-consuming process due to a lack of formal mentorship processes. From a student perspective, UG research has two main challenges: lack of autonomy and understanding of relevance relative to other co-curricular activities. In some research groups, UG students may not feel that they have ownership of their work, which results in the decay of intrinsic motivation. We are developing an Entrepreneurial Mindset (EM)-focused framework to enhance the research experience both for faculty and students. This framework provides faculty with access to resources and collaborators to support their efforts in engaging students in UG research and developing continuity in their laboratories. Students, on the other hand, will benefit from training opportunities designed to spark their curiosity, help them establish connections between their learnings, and enhance the value they create through their work. EM principles can transform UG research experiences by improving students' understanding of the relevance of their research and how it creates value for society. Our goal is to infuse EM into students' understanding of the UG research process, with the objective of broadening their participation, addressing inst.tutional challenges, and enhancing research productivity to benefit society. We seek to understand what benefits students perceive they will gain through the UG research experience so that we can understand how entrepreneurially-minded learning

The objective of this work was to investigate the Amplitude Modulation - Frequency Modulation (AM-FM) texture feature variability in carotid ultrasound video during the cardiac cycle at systole and diastole. The goal here was to identify AM-FM features that are associated with increased risk of stroke. We computed the inst.ntaneous amplitude, inst.ntaneous phase and the magnitude of inst.ntaneous frequency to extract plaque histogram features. A small dataset of 5 asymptomatic and 3 symptomatic videos were analyzed. Selected AM-FM plaque histogram texture features extracted during the cardiac cycle at the systolic and diastolic states were statistically significantly different between asymptomatic and symptomatic videos. However, further evaluation with more subjects needs to be carried out to exploit the usefulness of the proposed analysis in the clinical context.

The disruptions experienced by the processes in the last mile delivery during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic raised the dilemma of up-to-date last mile approaches for Urban Logistics (UL) issues. Self-Collection Delivery Systems (SCDS) have been proved to be an improvement for all the players of the SC, providing flexibility of time-windows and reducing overall mileage, delivery time and, consequently, gas emissions. Differing from previous works involving hybrid modeling for automated parcel lockers (APL) network design, this paper brings a System Dynamics Simulation Model (SDSM) to forecast online shopping demand in the Spanish city of Pamplona. A bi-criteria Facility Location Problem (FLP) is solved by means of an e-constraint method, where e is defined as the level of coverage of the total demand. The experiment run considers 90% of demand coverage, in order to obtain the most complex network possible. The simulation and demand forecast was carried out using Anylogic simulation software and the optimization procedure makes use of the Java-based CPLEX API solver. © 2023 The Authors.
