There is growing interest in accessing, relating, and combining data from multiple sources on the Web. Today, web users access the web through two dominant interfaces: clicking on hyperlinks (browsing) and searching via keyword queries (crawling). This process is often time-consuming and unsatisfactory because of the many inaccurate and irrelevant results that are returned. Better support is needed for expressing one's information requirements and dealing in more structured and systematic ways with one's search results. This paper presents ALII, our proposal for providing this support. ALII is an Active Logic based framework for Information integration, which can utilize a compact context representation and constructs a hierarchy model of query and web pages. The ALII project aims developing methods and tools for a model based, semantic integration of information sources on web pages.

In many applications the image registration task turns out to be a fundamental prerequisite for any further processing and analysis. In the proposed paper a new efficient technique is presented, appropriate for registering images which are translated and rotated versions of a reference image. The technique consists of two main parts: an efficiently implemented prewhitening part, and an iterative part which yields the unknown displacements after a few iterations. The cross-correlation operations involved in the iterative part are performed efficiently via a new scheme based on a proper partitioning of the images and the use of the FFT. Note that this efficient scheme is also applicable to the conventional spatial cross-correlation method. The new registration technique exhibits a superior performance as compared to the conventional cross-correlation method.

The need for wireless high speed data transmission is increasing. HiperLAN type 2 is an ETSI broadband wireless access network standard operating in license-exempt 5 GHz band. The MAC protocol of HiperLAN type 2 is based on TDMA/TDD and resources in one MAC frame can be allocated dynamically by Access Point(AP). In this paper, we propose a dynamic random channel allocation scheme for HiperLAN type 2. The AP scheduler controls the number of Random Channels(RCH's) in a MAC frame according to transmission results of the previous MAC frame. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves higher efficiency of resource and lower access delay than fixed RCH's allocation schemes.

In this note, we employ a conformal mapping technique to flatten tubular structures with multi-branches for visualization of MRA and CT volumetric vessel imagery. This may be used for the study of possible vessel pathology or virtual colonscopy for polyp detection. The method is based on a discrete Laplace-Beltrami operator to flatten a tubular surface onto a planar polygonal region in an angle-preserving manner. In this method, a thinned prunned medial surface (or skeleton) is used for the vessel partition.

A new analytical model for Single Electron Transistors (SETs) that can be used for co-simulation with CMOS is developed and validated with Monte Carlo simulation. The model includes temperature dependence, device asymmetry and background charge effects. A detailed physical parameter extraction procedure for asymmetric SETs is reported. An analytical approach is subsequently developed to investigate and accurately predict the power dissipation of SET inverters. Static power, as main mechanism of SET logic power dissipation, and contributions of dynamic and temperature-dependent leakage power are derived and critically discussed. It is shown that SET asymmetry can be exploited to significantly reduce SET logic power dissipation with negligible impact on propagation delay.

The object of this research is to decide which system is more effective between a VR system and a video system in military training. The performance of VR system used in experiment was evaluated through some questionnaire. Then a VR system and a video system is compared with drawing a rough map which presents effectiveness on mission area training. Correlation between sketched map and some questionnaire was calculated to find complementary factors improving the performance of the system.
