Deep learning becomes a useful technology in many fields for solving many problems with high ratio of user satisfaction as well playing a big role as alternative smart techniques for handling big data problems. While recommender system one of the hottest fields that deep learning achieves huge success in case of predication the user needs based on their preferences. Restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM neural network) used for building recommender system with various types of the recommender. This paper analyzes the factors (Batch size, and number of epochs) that affect RBM to build a such recommender while shows the errors and time consumption as analysis factors on a dataset with 1 million movie rating. © 2019 IEEE.

Recent progress in noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) hardware shows that quantum devices may be able to tackle complex problems even without error correction. However, coherent errors due to the increased complexity of these devices is an outstanding issue. They can accumulate through a circuit, making their impact on algorithms hard to predict and mitigate. Iterative algorithms like quantum imaginary time evolution are susceptible to these errors. This article presents the combination of both noise tailoring using randomized compiling and error mitigation with purification. We also show that cycle benchmarking gives an estimate of the reliability of the purification. We apply this method to the quantum imaginary time evolution of a transverse field Ising model and report an energy estimation error and a ground-state infidelity both below 1%. Our methodology is general and can be used for other algorithms and platforms. We show how combining noise tailoring and error mitigation will push forward the performance of NISQ devices.

Service providers leverage discounted prices of reserved inst.nces offered by cloud providers to amortize their operational costs. They reserve a certain number of inst.nces to cover a significant portion of their computing resource requirements, and further employ on-demand inst.nces to cover remaining requirements not satisfied by the reserved inst.nces. Because of the higher price of on-demand inst.nces, service providers seek to lower their usage to minimize operational costs. In this work, we propose ApproxDNN approach for Machine Learning as a Service to reduce operational costs of service providers by incentivizing approximate results, based on the capabilities of cutting-edge GPUs and a discounted pricing model. When the deadlines of jobs submitted by users are very tight, a service provider might not be able to execute all of them on reserved inst.nces under the default precision. In such cases, Ap- proxDNN leverages the reduced-precision inst.uctions to reduce the execution time of the jobs with slight reduction in their final accuracy, and consequently, to minimize the employment of on- demand inst.nces. To incentivize users to accept the approximate results of reduced-precision inst.uctions, ApproxDNN offers them a discounted price for the service based on a newly designed pricing model. Our proposed pricing model of ApproxDNN guarantees lower or equal cost for service providers compared to the conventional method that solely depends on employment of on-demand inst.nces in case of the reserved inst.nce shortage. We employ real-world traces to conduct an extensive set of experiments and evaluate the performance of our proposed approach. The results show that ApproxDNN reduces the cost of service providers by 18%, while never exceeding the cost of the conventional method and slightly affecting the accuracy by 0.14%.

Line-of-sight (LOS) delay estimation in multipath scenarios is a central problem in global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Deterministic channel models can be used to describe the multipath environment, but this usually requires the estimation of several nuisance parameters. In order to avoid this effort, stochastic channel models can be used. In this case the multipath statistics have to be estimated. The correlated path (CP) model combines the two approaches, dividing the multipath signal into a part correlated with the LOS signal, and the rest as uncorrelated multipath interference. In an earlier version of the CP model the multipath interference was modeled as temporally white noise. This is not an accurate assumption however, especially in the case when a bank of correlators is used for signal compression. In this paper we derive the temporal covariance matrix of the multipath interference and show how the temporal multipath correlation can incorporated into the maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator of the CP model. Simulation results show that this new approach leads to better LOS time-delay estimation performance. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach, Germany.

In recent times, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are broadly utilized in targeted monitoring applications. Traditional target coverage techniques usually consider that environment is known completely and every target is covered by single sensor. However those algorithms are inflexible when the sensor is about to die, that is, lack of energy and therefore target has to be covered with more than a sensor which is termed as n coverage crisis. In general, n coverage problem is energy and time consuming process, as well sensor organization is needed all the time. To resolve this crisis, this work anticipates a n coverage model with VCH-PSO (Virtual Cluster Head based Particle Swarm Optimization and EFLM (Energy management based Fuzzy logic Model) to enlarge the lifetime of WSN. During the search of optimal area coverage, diverse factors like node position, energy consumption, and coverage range of sensors are considered significantly. Simulation was carried out in MATLAB environment and compared with prevailing techniques. The proposed model shows better trade off in terms of network lifetime and time needed for switching between various coverage regions. © 2020 IEEE.

Privacy is currently in distress and in need of rescue, much like princesses in the all-familiar fairytales. We employ storytelling and metaphors from fairytales to make reader-friendly and streamline our arguments about how a complex concept of Privacy Labeling (the ‘knight in shining armor’) can be a solution to the current state of Privacy (the ‘princess in distress’). We give a precise definition of Privacy Labeling (PL), painting a panoptic portrait from seven different perspectives (the ‘seven helpers’): Business, Legal, Regulatory, Usability and Human Factors, Educative, Technological, and Multidisciplinary. We describe a common vision, proposing several important ‘traits of character’ of PL as well as identifying ‘undeveloped potentialities’, i.e., open problems on which the community can focus. More specifically, this position paper identifies the stakeholders of the PL and their needs with regard to privacy, describing how PL should be and look like in order to address these needs. Throughout the paper, we highlight goals, characteristics, open problems, and starting points for creating, what we consider to be, the ideal PL. In the end we present three approaches to establish and manage PL, through: self-evaluations, certifications, or community endeavors. In this paper, we introduce a novel methodology for the analysis of task-related fMRI data. In particular, we propose an alternative way for constructing the design matrix, based on the newly suggested Information-Assisted Dictionary Learning (IADL) method. This technique offers an enhanced potential, within the conventional GLM framework, (a) to efficiently cope with uncertainties in the modeling of the hemodynamic response function, (b) to accommodate unmodeled brain-induced sources, beyond the task-related ones, as well as potential interfering scanner-induced artifacts, uncorrected head-motion residuals and other unmodeled physiological signals, and (c) to integrate external knowledge regarding the natural sparsity of the brain activity that is associated with both the experimental design and brain atlases. The capabilities of the proposed methodology are evaluated via a realistic synthetic fMRI-like dataset, and demonstrated using a test case of a challenging fMRI study, which verifies that the proposed approach produces substantially more consistent results compared to the standard design matrix method. A toolbox extension for SPM is also provided, to facilitate the use and reproducibility of the proposed methodology. © 2021

Spectral measurements provide valuable information on the electronic states and crystal structures of materials. In particular, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) can facilitate analysis of the chemical bond state of material surfaces. In the analysis of XPS spectra, the spectrum to be measured is typically compared to a reference spectrum measured on a known single-phase sample. Therefore, establishing a reference spectral database is imperative. In this study, round-robin tests of XPS spectra are performed with the aim of obtaining recommended XPS reference spectra and experimental procedures, including preprocessing. Determining the variations in peak structures between inst.ument- and sample-derived spectral shapes, and quantitatively discussing them in round-robin tests of XPS spectra are challenging. Therefore, an analysis method that automatically determines the above mentioned variations and extracts the samplederived common spectral structures is developed. There is broad agreement that one important aspect of responsible innovation (RI) is to provide training on its principles and practices to current and future researchers and innovators, notably including doctoral students. Much less agreement can be observed concerning the question of what this training should consist of, how it should be delivered and how it could be assessed. The increasing inst.tutional embedding of RI leads to calls for the alignment of RI training with training in other subjects. One can therefore observe a push towards the official assessment of RI training, for example in the recent call for proposals for centres for doctoral training by UK Research and Innovation. This editorial article takes its point of departure from the recognition that the RI community will need to react to the call for assessment of RI training. It provides an overview of the background and open questions around RI training and assessment as a background of examples of RI training assessment at doctoral level. There is unlikely to be one right way of assessing RI training across inst.tutions and disciplines, but we expect that the examples provided in this article can help RI scholars and practitioners orient their training and its assessment in ways that are academically viable as well as supportive of the overall aims of RI. © 2023
