Patients with neurological disorders are often required to cope with off-putting and longer rehabilitation process and some of them become wheelchair users with severe restriction on the arms and hands skill. Many studies have proposed solutions for autonomous or semi-autonomous powered wheelchairs focusing on navigation problems. In this project, we are interested in bringing up a planning shared control model for wheelchair to be used by people with disabilities or inexpert users to move from a room to another into an indoor place. The main objective is to reduce the effort of the users on controlling the wheelchair on these dedicated paths. This leads us to improve an algorithm of shared control to use other data sources such as agendas, travelled path, pose of the wheelchair, and time of day to infer patterns of conduction, in order to anticipate the conductor's intentions, for example, his/her intended path or final destination and to communicate with the user providing smart suggestions during the process. This anticipative shared control is of prime importance when tiring human-machine interfaces such as BCI, eye-tracking or EMG are being employed.

Real time in situ medical monitoring has become increasingly common in the past few decades, driven by the development of a wide variety of affordable sensors and power autonomous, energy efficient microcontroller platforms. Portable and unobtrusive multi-sensor data acquisition is considered routine, including real-time data processing and alerting based on measurements within or around the human body. Project MAIA has developed an intelligent baby cot system capable of monitoring sleeping infants and remotely notifying their carers under pre-programmed circumstances. It aims to add a layer of protection for infants during the first 6 months of their life, primarily targeting medical emergencies such as choking, suffocation and the elusive Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The MAIA system also aims to contribute to current paediatric medical knowledge by providing rare in situ research data. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Biomedical knowledge stored in the web is increasing significantly as most of the biomedical research papers are published online. Biomedical entity extraction is a crucial procedure for efficient text analysis and retrieval. PubMed is a very popular indexing engine, concerning life sciences and biomedical research. Being a free database, it accesses primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. In this work, we propose a metasearch engine over PubMed, which classifies PubMed results according to their specific topic and the extracted Biomedical entities. This method helps researchers to browse and search in the retrieved results. In order to provide more accurate clustering results, we utilize the biomedical ontology, named MeSH as well as RxNorm which is a tool for supporting semantic interoperation between drug terminologies and pharmacy knowledge base systems. Finally, we embed the proposed methodology in an online system.

Over the last decade or so, significant research has focused on defining Quality of Experience (QoE) of Multimedia Systems and identifying the key factors that collectively determine it. Some consensus thus exists as to the role of System Factors, Human Factors and Context Factors. In this paper, the notion of context is broadened to include information gleaned from simultaneous out-of-band channels, such as social network trend analytics, that can be used if interpreted in a timely manner, to help further optimise QoE. This work proposes a policy iteration procedure for the synthesis of optimal and globally stabilizing control policies for Linear Time Invariant (LTI) Asymptotically Null-controllable with Bounded Inputs (ANCBI) systems. This class includes systems with eigenvalues on the imaginary axis (possibly repeated) but no pole with positive real part. The proposed policy iteration relies on a class of piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions which is non-differentiable, but continuous, and polynomial in both the state and the deadzone functions of the input signals. The second step of the policy iteration is based on a piecewise control policy improvement. An important aspect of the proposed piecewise policy is that at each step of the iteration the computed policy is globally stabilizing and the existence of an improving value function is guaranteed as well. The solution to the inequalities which is required to hold at each step of the policy iteration, is obtained by solving Sum-of-Squares Programs (SOSP) that can be efficiently implemented with semidefinite programming (SDP) solvers.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is combination of tiny sensors made up with MEMS technology and has important applications such as target tracking and environmental monitoring. In recent times WSNs becomes more attractive because of their sensing ability, low cost, self-organizing nature in different environments. In this paper we have discussed two existing techniques for data communication such as Normal technique and Distance and Density Based Cluster Selection algorithm (DDCSA) and we find that these two techniques are not optimal enough to save energy in a network. In DDCSA protocols there is a problem of cluster breaking and lot of energy is consumed to reforming clusters. In this paper we enhance the Distance and Density Based Cluster Selection Algorithm (DDCSA) using Geographical Forwarding with Face Routing Technique. Simulation Results shows that our Enhanced DDCSA performs better than DDCSA & Normal technique and gives better results in term of Energy spent, Average delay and Packet delivery ratio.

The acceptable consistent matrix is one of the important issue in comparison matrix to confirm the rational of decision maker opinion. This paper presents a method using ant colony optimization(ACO) to solve the inconsistent comparison matrix to obtain the best consistent ratio(CR), named ACSICR. This method aims to enhance the CR by fractioning the original element to several candidates element to substitute. To evaluate the performance, the ACSICR is tested on some inconsistent comparison matrices. The experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm is able to decrease the consistent ratio significantly.

The main focus of this work is the effort to minimize the power consumption on mobile devices such as notebooks, netbooks, tablets, tablets, smartphones, etc. by adjusting the transmission power of the wireless card, thus extending the battery life. In order to achieve that, we provide a mechanism (which we call Signal Adaptation Mechanism - SAM) that optimizes the power depending on the quality of the connection. This mechanism measures the quality of the transmission and adjusts the transmission power accordingly, by utilizing an expanded array of metrics along the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), for more accurate estimation. It also aims at easy implementation on various wireless adapters. In order to evaluate, fine-tune and improve the mechanism, a list of experiments has been performed. These experiments were conducted on a real (as opposed to simulated) ad-hoc network, where the nodes of the networks followed varying moving patterns.
