The paper presents constraint satisfaction problem driven approach to analytical solution of the cyclic scheduling problem in the Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) producing multi-type parts where for material handling are used the Automated Guide Vehicles Systems (AGVS). Finding the conditions guaranteeing the AGVs deadlock-free and collision-free movement policy is the aim of our researches. The AGVs co-sharing the common parts of the transportation route while executing repetitive processes, i.e. being assigned to AGVs passing along machines in a cyclic way, can be modeled in terms of Cyclic Concurrent Process Systems (CCPS). Schedulability analysis for a given CCPS answers the question whether a cyclic schedule exists or not. The paper suggests approach for schedulability analysis of multimodal processes representing real manufacturing employing the declarative modeling. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Nowadays organizations continuously update, adopt or introduce new Information technology Systems within their structure. This requires great resources in capital, staff and time. Selection and adoption of the proper information system and/or technologies must be performed in a way which will ensure that the system will meet the requirements and will fit in the organization's procedures and structure. This paper proposes a methodology for selecting the appropriate solution for an organization among the available options. It describes the requirement analysis phase where the selection criteria are defined and the available solutions are evaluated. For the evaluation of the different solutions, the Bipolar Analytic Hierarchical Process (BAHP) is proposed. The best solution is selected so as to fulfill the functional requirements and the requirements of the organization regarding the maintenance needs and the cost. The proposed approach is tested for the case of the Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, Greece. © 2013 DIME UNIVERSITÀ DI GENOVA.

Proximity is used for showing closeness between objects. It is widely used in a social network, marketing, and online businesses. Proximity is also used for spatial analysis such as epidemic spread, extent of trade areas, and socioeconomic planning. Proximity in spatial data is always associated with distance. However, distance itself can be ambiguous when there is an impassable natural landmark barrier between them such as mountain and big lake. Impassable natural landmark barrier is not included in the boundaries of a ZIP Code. Adjacency between ZIP Codes would not happen if they did not have common boundaries. We propose a novel way of measuring proximity in a graph of spatial data based on common boundary points, centroid distance, and shortest path. By considering these three, we bound to get more exact precision answer for proximity and eliminating the possibility of ambiguous distance. We also provide a mathematical model for effectively calculating proximity by using the previously mentioned features. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

The present paper focuses on privacy preserving technique. Cloud computing is not a new technology more over it is a new way of delivering technology. Providers deliver it in the form of services, in computing field security is the main concern which blocks the tremendous growth of Cloud computing and became a huge debate area worldwide, due to security breach of user's valuable information. So we identified the week service bonding of cloud providers in maintaining, and preserving users' secrecy and failed to have a universal service level agreement. This paper focus on privacy mitigation methodology by proposing a privacy preserving algorithmic approach to congregate the privacy issue and preserve ones confidential data stored in the cloud.

Model-driven software engineering not only enables the efficient development of software but also facilitates the analysis of non-functional properties (NFPs). As UML, the most adopted modeling language for designing software, lacks in formal execution semantics, current approaches translate UML models into dedicated analysis models, before NFPs can be computed. However, such transformations introduce additional complexity for the users and developers of analysis tools. To avoid this additional complexity, we show how the analysis of certain NFPs can be performed solely based on UML models without translating them into, e.g., queuing networks. Therefore, we leverage the execution semantics of fUML, a recent OMG standard, to gain execution traces from UML models and, based on these traces, compute indices, such as response time, taking into account the contention of resources, as well as different resource management configurations, such as balancing and scaling strategies.

Route discovery and maintenance in Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a problem of long standing interest. In ad-hoc networks the Ad-hoc on demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol assumes that discovered route is optimal and transmits data on it for the entire data session, whereas due to dynamic topology nodes change position dynamically, the optimum route may change. Thus, node mobility may give rise to more optimal path than already discovered one, making the optimal path suboptimal. AODV does not re-initiate route discovery until link failure or route break occurs which incurs large overhead and increase in delay and is not energy efficient. Therefore, dynamic optimal route discovery should be done. An attempt is made in this paper to find an event based optimum path which is created because of the dynamic topology of the Ad-hoc network and its advantages in data transmission in terms of delay and energy efficiency. Moreover routing information on nodes of active route remains correct. In the literature Anticipated Route Maintenance (ARM), path compression algorithm (PCA), etc. Are some of the approaches used for dynamic route discovery.

Denoising is an essential application to improve image quality, especially in medical imaging. This paper introduces an example and patch-based learning method for reducing Gaussian noise and Poisson noise which often appear in medical imaging modalities using ionizing radiation. In the proposed method, denoising is performed by learning the regression model based on a set of the nearest neighbors of a given noisy patch, with the help of a given set of standard images. The method is evaluated and compared to several state-of-the-art denoising methods. The obtained results confirm its efficiency, especially for heavy noise.

This paper addresses the problem of leader election in virtual traffic lights. A virtual traffic light (VTL) is a self-organizing traffic control system that allows road vehicles equipped with vehicle-to-vehicle communication facilities to implement the function of a traffic light without the support of a roadside inst.llation. Previous research has shown that it is impossible to construct a leader election protocol that guarantees agreement among the participating vehicles in the presence of massive communication failures. The paper addresses the problem of calculating the probability of disagreement in situations where a large number of protocol messages are lost due to communication interference, so-called communication grey-outs. To this end, we present a probabilistic analysis of a family of simple round-based consensus algorithms that solve the 1-of-n selection problem. We propose to use these algorithms for the core logic of a VTL leader election protocol (LEP). Our analysis shows that the probability of disagreement depends on: i) the number of vehicles involved in the leader election, ii) the number of rounds of message exchange, iii) the probability of message loss, and iv) the decision criterion used by the LEP. We propose an optimistic and a pessimistic decision criteria for the proposed 1-of-n selection algorithms. The analysis encompass two probabilistic failure models, one for symmetric communication failures and one for asymmetric communication failures. © 2013 IEEE.

While great strides have been made in multiagent teamwork, existing approaches typically assume extensive information exists about teammates and how to coordinate actions. This paper addresses how robust teamwork can still be created even if limited or no information exists about a specific group of teammates, as in the ad hoc teamwork scenario. The main contribution of this paper is the first empirical evaluation of an agent cooperating with teammates not created by the authors, where the agent is not provided expert knowledge of its teammates. For this purpose, we develop a general purpose teammate modeling method and test the resulting ad hoc team agent's ability to collaborate with more than 40 unknown teams of agents to accomplish a benchmark task. These agents were designed by people other than the authors without these designers planning for the ad hoc teamwork setting. A secondary contribution of the paper is a new transfer learning algorithm, TwoStageTransfer, that can improve results when the ad hoc team agent does have some limited observations of its current teammates. The continuing pervasion of our society with safety-critical cyber-physical systems not only demands for adequate (risk) analysis, testing and verification techniques, it also generates growing experience on their use, which can be considered as important as the tools themselves for their efficient use. This paper introduces workflow patterns to describe such best practices in a systematic way that efficiently represents this knowledge, and also provides a way to relate different patterns, making them easier to identify and use, and cover as wide a range of experiences as possible. The value of the approach is demonstrated using some pattern examples from a collection developed in the Artemis-project MBAT. Finally, the paper presents a wiki-based approach for developing and maintaining the pattern collection.
