In this paper we consider disturbance decoupling problems for switched linear systems. We will provide necessary and sufficient conditions for three different versions of disturbance decoupling, which differ based on which signals are considered to be the disturbance. In the first version the continuous exogenous input is considered as the disturbance, in the second the switching signal and in the third both of them are considered as disturbances. The solutions of the three disturbance decoupling problems will be based on geometric control theory for switched linear systems and will entail both mode-dependent and mode-independent static state feedback.
The classical Youla-parametrization is extended for multivariable linear dynamic processes. The regulator design method uses the simplest naive plant model, which can be easily handled in MATLAB computations.

Existing cover song detection systems require prior knowledge of the number of cover songs in a test set in order to identify cover(s) to a reference song. We describe a system that does not require such prior knowledge. The input to the system is a reference track and test track, and the output is a binary classification of whether the inputs are either a reference and a cover or a reference and a non-cover. The system differs from state-of-the-art detectors by calculating multiple input features, performing a novel type of test song normalization in order to combat against."impostor" tracks, and performing classification using either a support vector machine (SVM) or multi-layer perceptron (MLP). On the covers80 test set, the system achieves an equal error rate of 10percent, compared to 21.3percent achieved by the 2007 LabROSA cover song detection system.

Mobile learning is considered the next step of online learning by incorporating mobility as a key requirement. Indeed, the current wide spread of mobile devices and wireless technologies brings an enormous potential to e-learning, in terms of ubiquity, pervasiveness, personalization, flexibility, and so on. For this reason, Mobile Learning is attracting significant research efforts covering a fairly variety of learning settings, from schools and universities to workplaces and cities. This research has evidenced that mobile technology can offer new opportunities for learners to learn inside and beyond the traditional inst.uctor-oriented educational paradigm. However, mobile technologies are still in its infancy and many challenges arise. In this paper we analyze, from both learning and technological perspectives, the development of learning applications using mobile devices. To this end, proxy and proxy less architectures are considered as way to extend traditional virtual campuses with mobile clients. The objective is twofold: to access learning materials and to support learning activities. A prototype of a Virtual Campus is developed using MLE-Moodle -the Mobile Learning module of Moodle. The proposed Virtual Campus enables mobile clients to perform online learning activities and is a step towards achieving the “anytime, anywhere” paradigm.

Google has recently released the video compression format VP8 to the open source community. This new compression format competes against.the existing H.264 video standard developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) in collaboration with the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). This paper compares these two video coding standards in terms of video bit rate-distortion (quality) performance and the video network traffic variability with different long video sequences. We find that VP8 presently does not fulfill its promise to achieve twice the quality at half the bandwidth compared to H.264. The rate-distortion (RD) performance of VP8 is rather slightly below the RD performance of H.264. On the positive side, in contrast to H.264, VP8 has no license fees.

Using variational calculus we develop an active contour model to segment an object across a number of image frames in the presence of an optical flow field. We define an energy functional that is locally minimized when the object is tracked across the entire image stack. Unlike classical snakes, image forces and regularization terms are integrated over the full set of images in the proposed model. This results in a new formulation of active contours. The method is demonstrated by segmenting the ascending aorta in a phase-contrast cine MRI dataset. Techniques to compute the required optical flow field and a “one-click” contour initialization step are suggested for this particular modality.

In this paper the robustness of three different types of Fuzzy Flip-Flop based Neural Network (FNN) and the standard tansig based neural networks is compared from the various test function approximation goodness points of view. It is tested how well the fuzzy flip-flop based and the simulated neural networks handle the test data sets outlier points. The robust design of the FNN is presented, and the best suitable fuzzy neuron type is emphasized. Furthermore, the sensitivity of fuzzy neural networks to the fuzzy neuron type and hidden layers neuron number is evaluated.
